Once Maia retires...

Picojon is the goat steroid specialist

How crazy is it of me to think that submissions is the number one goal in bjj, I’m not giving Arona and the like credit for purposely stalling out opponents. You can find interviews with Marcelo, Kron and others talking about how they don’t respect those tactics. Never said Askren is just a wrestler dumbass, I’m saying Maia is not just a bjj grappler. By the way, Askren’s victory against Aoki didn’t impress anyone but you. Can Maia take down Woodly? Maybe once in a hundred tries, but you know what Woodly can’t do? Pass his guard, take his back and definitely won’t submit him. But just because Woodly can’t do that, no one is going to say Woodly is just a wrestler when it comes to grappling.

Then your opinion is irrelevant worthless garbage and your posts are not even worth reading. End of story.

Khabib is a specialist and has reached heights Damien never did. Use him as your example not Maia.

You’re using one of the least liked adcc champions as an example. Look at interviews of Rickson Gracie to find out what he thinks of competitors who purposely play the point game.
It is asinine to say Maia is a one demensional grappler because he’s not as good of a wrestler as Woodly. Maia flipped Chael over his head before submitting him. Ask Chael if Maia is a one demesional grappler you goof.

KInda. I guess I agree but I see Khabib as a bit more well rounded than Maia. Khabib (even before he improved his striking--which is still lackluster but it's better than it was and will likely continue to improve) incorporates more ways to do actual damage on the mat than Maia did. But he's also a submission threat (not like Maia obviously but still adept). So I guess I mean that while Khabib and Maia are both always looking for the TD and to work their opponent on the mat, Khabib has a bit more variet once he gets it there, if that makes sense. Whereas Maia didn't even seem to like using gnp, he just wanted to continue to advance his position and eventually find the sub.

Edit. Poor reading comprehension.

I'm not sure Maia is some narrow "specialist" considering that he has awesome tdd, terrific sweep takedowns, expertise in striking, terrific movement, high level bjj. yes he's billed as a karate guy, but he's ridiculously well rounded.

Maia is billed...as a "Karate guy"? Umm...

oh shit, i had just come from a thread about *machida* and just leaped into this discussion with him on my brain. my bad.

Its still not too late for Maia vs Askren.
That would be beautiful.

JDS is one of the most accomplished specialist. He is a boxer with TDD. And please do not tell me about the black belt his friend Nog gave him.

Tonon is focusing on MMA, so probably him if he sticks with it.

Maia submits Askren, no doubt.
Which would be beautiful.
The last big style vs style fight.
Askren could take Maia down easily... then what could he possibly do?

This might be my second favourite matchup ever, after Akiyama vs Lombard.
Olympic judo vs olympic judo, with iron chins and power on top of it. And savagery.

Another fighter not mentioned is Shoeface, another BJJ guy

In that case (kinda, love Cigano!) would Cody Garbrandt count? I see him as a boxing specialist.
