On this day, we pay homage to the career of a legend, Michael "The Count" Bisping

Well damn. Farewell. I watched him on TUF 3 and was always a fan

He accepted the fight with Romero and Dana decided to give GSP the fight after the Woodley-Wonderboy fiasco.

If you think taking the GSP fight was "ducking" you need to grow up.

He never accepted any fight with Romero, he accepted one with Whittaker after he beat Romero and that was after months of finding every reason possible not to sign the dotted line to fight Yoel.

The GSP fight was in the making since before Whitaker won. When it seemed it might not happen he said he would fight either Yoel or Whitaker, and then Whitaker won. Then the GSP fight was back on.

Yes, when he was left with no choice because Dana was getting tired of waiting on George for so long. Before that, he fought old man Henderson even though Yoel was right there.

I have respect for him, good fighter and family man. Wish him all the best in the future.

Hard worker and retired at the right time. He got to win a title late in his career and a gsp payday. Good for him.

GTFO of this thread you utter cunt.
There's always one, likely has a miserable life if he feels the need to campaign to bring someones name down in retirement. Best to just ignore him, he does have trump syndrome after all if he feels the need to label himself "sherdog's intellectual savior".

He deserves respect for his accomplishments but a "Legend" HELL NO!! BTW, despite his accomplishments he is still a tool IMHO

Was something special to see him, the first ever English UFC champion, defend his title in England

One of the gutsiest fighters ever, people who say he ducked people don't realise how many contenders he fought in his tenure.
Thank you Bisping.

Good on him for calling it now instead of being KO’d 5 times in a row and having everyone begging him to stop.

He beat Anderson, KO’d Luke, got a belt, avenged the Hendo loss. Great career, congratulations to him.

I remember watching TUF Season 3 back in the day as a 21 year old Michael destroyed everybody and won the show! Hard to believe 12 years has passed and hes retired wish him nothing but the best! Never saw him winning the Middleweight title but he proved me wrong!!

That's not how it went down at all. GSP and Bisping of course were in talks for a while. But months before Whittaker vs Yoel was set, GSP announced his come back but wanted to fight in the FALL (which eventually happened btw). During that time Bisping tried to bait him into fighting in July so he wouldn't be pressured into fighting Yoel. Bisping stated he would fight Yoel if GSP wasn't willing to fight in July. (https://www.bloodyelbow.com/2017/3/...to-wait-a-year-for-georges-st-pierre-ufc-news). But then two months later he claims he was too injured to fight Yoel and wanted to wait for GSP int he fall. (https://www.mmamania.com/2017/5/17/...oel-romero-prefers-wait-georges-st-pierre-mma).

Yoel vs Whittaker only happened because Bisping ducked Yoel and said he couldn't fight.

Bisping was awesome.

I’m happy for him.

First ballot hofer, records for fights, wins, former champ, and one of the best runs through goats that the sport has ever seen.

Even managed to ruin rockhold and retired him for over a year.

This sounds to me like Bisping really wanted the GSP fight. He wanted the fight to happen in July not because he didn't want to fight Romero or anyone else, but because he didn't want to risk losing the fight with GSP. Those are different things. There is a world of difference between "ducking" someone, and not wanting to jeopardize your biggest payday. Losing against Yoel, getting injured, or anything else, could compromise the big fight.

When a fighter decides not to fight to wait for a title shot or a bigger fight, this is primarily a financial consideration.

GSP is the biggest fight in the world Bisping could take, since fighting Conor or Brock, say, would be out of the question. Bisping was on his way out of the sport, so why would he risk the biggest fight of his life, right before retirement? To prove he is not "afraid"?

That is ridiculous.
