Oliveira going to Abu Dhabi late

stubborn guy

Refuses to even watch the first match too
Seriously? Hadn't heard that.

Ouch. Bet the house on Islam. Any time a guy refuses to watch his loss against someone and pretends he can just go out and magically "do better" without changing anything or learning anything new, it ALWAYS goes the same way as the first fight, except sometimes it's even worse.

Don't know if he actually said that, but a lot of guys don't watch their fights. What really matters is if his coaches watched it and implement adjustments in the gameplan.

Coaches watching it is good and all, but the fighter needs to see it with their own eyes imo

Many successful fighters don't, so who knows. They're the ones in there fighting, though, so maybe they already know what went wrong.

Also, charles has been "playing the game" lately in the media (his words, not mine), so I would take everything he says with a grain of salt. I don't want to say he's trolling everyone, but it often seems like he is purposely not saying what he really thinks.

I’m not speculating about whether traveling all the way to Abu Dhabi will be a factor, but Khabib insists it will be a factor and has said Charles needs to go out there early. I tend to defer to Khabib seeing as he’s both fought and coached in Abu Dhabi numerous times and has an extremely high IQ in all facets of the sport, personally I think his words should be taken very seriously.

To your second point, I think Oliveira seems to be in denial about the first fight. I don’t know if he’s truly examined every aspect of the last fight, including how he prepared, how early he traveled, etc.
Maybe Khabib is wrong? Maybe fighters are different?

This is the third time so far you've been using his name as a base for your argument. He just stated his opinion as an opinion. Not a fact.

Really? He said he didn't watch their first match? That would indeed be a bit worrisome, IMO

Yes he said it during the post fight after beating Dariush and I think again recently

He keeps insisting it was an “off night” and it won’t happen again

Which doesn’t sound good.

Maybe he’s wrong, but those that disagree with him have no basis for their disagreement, it should be self evident that Khabib is more credible than your average sherdogger.

Yeah what does khabib know. Let’s listen to a sherdogger instead lol.

I mean, you did make a thread on sherdog for sherdoggers to share their opinions, presumably because you wanted to hear their opinions. Why do that if you're dead set on sticking with the more credible opinion of khabib?

Sharing your opinion is one thing, but low quality opinions should be open to criticism. I see a lot of hand waving and folks just saying Oliveira knows what he’s doing, or people scoffing at the fact that acclimating to Abu Dhabi is even a concern. Your comments were actually good and substantive, but the folks dismissing this as a non issue out of hand I just think are providing low quality commentary. I keep bringing up Khabib because at the very least even if you disagree with him his opinion simply can’t be dismissed with a hand wave.

It just seems like you're dead set on khabib's opinion being the correct one, which is fine, but doesn't exactly leave much wiggle room for a conversation.

He seems to think that him being homesick has more negative effects on his performance than acclimation issues do. We have no way of knowing if that is true or false in his case.

If he honestly believes that it's preposterous lol

Fighters believe crazier things. Bryce mitchell exists lol.

Anyways, the mental aspect of the game isn't to be underestimated in my opinion. If he says that it affects him, then I don't see any reason why to doubt him.

All facets of the sport? Khabib pulled out of a lot fights. It got so bad that during the last 7 years of his career, he only managed to make it to the cage 8 times.

When the fight with Tony Ferguson became a reality at UFC 209, Khabib couldn't make weight and took the cowardly way out by not telling anybody in the UFC. Instead, he just no-showed the weigh-ins and scurried off to a random hospital, where the ER doctors determined that there was nothing wrong with Khabib. He was simply dehydrated and wasting their time, so he was discharged after receiving an IV.

Prior to the UFC, Khabib was a welterweight. He struggled to make 155 throughout his career in the UFC. It got to the point where Khabib could only make weight on an Abu Dhabi scale with their generous weigh-in technique.

Yeah, sounded like Khabib didn't "acclimatize" well with his tiramisu... but said no one ever. He must stfu about anything concerning other fighters and should take care of his own obesity nowadays only. No one cares about his opinion, he is a random nowadays like anyone else.

The only ones who didn't see anything wrong at that weigh-ins were his usual dishonest fans. Those people lie so much they don't even blink, don't expect those crooked people to behave properly as straight, lies and dishonesty are inside their brains, it's no use.

Probably trying to avoid having his food contaminated again.
Just got this from another thread. That's from Renzo Gracie who invited Charles to stay at his apartment along with Paulo Costa.

Yeah, Charles should get there soon. Plus there's the time difference. Just be careful with what he eats.
You both thought what I was thinking for some time, I really think something's wrong happened in this matter, food or anything else. That place is shady, corrupt, weird scales, benefit only the preferred fighters not from today, this is well-known. You being in a foreign country where only a few people can control everything, I wouldn't doubt something like that can really happen.

I heard things.

Why should he tell us or anyone, what all kinds of new tricks he has been learning for his next fight?
Do you honestly believe he's had enough time to close the gap in skill? Especially if he won't even watch the first fight?

Really?

If so, I've got a bridge in Brooklyn for sale, great price!
