Even the first UFC tournament was fraudulent and designed to prop the Gracies up, there were plenty of better fighters they could have signed to that tournament that Royce...probably wouldn't have beaten, not only didn't they try to sign them but they literally turned down some of them from competing when they tried for that very reason. At least now the sport is actually competitive and deep with a global talent pool.

A boring fighter like Fitch had to win multiple fights in a row to get a title shot, someone with a bit of a look and personality like Dan Hardy got fast tracked. It is what it is.
