So my wife and I love just going to antique stores and looking around. Montana has some crazy gems hidden away in barns and homesteads. We rarely buy anything when we go, it's usually just curiosities and something to do when passing through the many small towns and unincorporated communities. However, I stumbled upon this thing! After some quick research in the store, the pipes that it had in it were pretty high end(3 were about 100-150 bucks a piece).

I bought it for 20 bucks(not my picture, but the exact same model and 6 pipes total). It was originally meant for just decoration in my office and I filled it up with some cheap tobacco I had lying around(cigars that were beyond saving that someone 'gifted' me, I just shredded the tobacco as best I could to make it look the part). As it sat there on the shelf though, it had me waffling on whether or not I should try to smoke a pipe.

I even went to the gas station and noticed they had some Prince Albert for like 2 bucks, which I bought on a whim after reading some reviews stating it was a fairly decent pipe tobacco. I like cigars, still definitely a beginner in that realm. I frequented the old Cigar thread a lot, hoping some of the vets from that thread will chime in. Has anyone ever smoked an old school tobacco pipe on here? Will I look as cool as I think I'll look sitting on my front porch in cargo shorts, with a monocle, and a tweed jacket? Basically, how do I not fuck this up?

I use some nice tobacco pipes to smoke well-cured nuggs out of, I haven't smoked tobacco in many years now though. Briarwood or pearwood are the two best IMHO.

Basic care for your pipes is to build up a good cake in the bowl, and run a pipecleaner through the stem after use. You won't really be able to just sit and smoke your pipe yet, you need to get something to tamp with, and a good pipe knife for managing the cake at just the right dimensions. A nail works fine as a makeshift tamper though.

Whatever you're putting in your pipe, sitting on your front porch and slowly sipping at the smoke as you while away the hours is a very relaxing and therapeutic experience.

I recommend you visit the forum section of the Pipes Magazine website, those guys there are incredibly helpful and will fall over themselves to get you up and started. They also can recommend nice tobaccos, and smoking techniques.

Happy smoking.

You think you're going to look like this.

But in reality it'll be something more like this.

Maybe that's why I want to smoke a used pipe. To taste the finely aged spittle of a man with a slightly manlier aviator mustache than my own.

You have Prince Albert in a can? Let the man out!

I used to have a smoking jacket and smoked my pot in a Calabash like Holmes.

Then I decided I was being douchey.

I remember when I was in college one guy walked into class with a pipe in his mouth. I was like, dafuq? lol
