That was the thing. He had all those old conservative wonks that filled the ranks of the Bush administrations, or would have for Romney.

This time it's truly an uncompromising MAGA clown car. The worst part is that it manages to disappoint even when I was hopeful. I thought this might pay dividends in at least the areas where I aligned philosophically, a truly radical conservative approach, political ground even less trodden than radical progressive policies speckling our administrations of the past 50 years, as a possible jolt for meaningful change. DOGE, for example, with the aim to hit government waste. Glorious. Loved the idea. Even the old chief investigating waste under Biden thought it was essential work in the abstract.

But what happened? They only find a few hundred million of waste in the defense spending, but they gut the...the US Park service? Are you fucking kidding me? Defense and health care spending. That's where 80% of the waste, fraud, and corruption drowning our nation are located. And you take a nerf gun to them?
