Xbox Official Xbox thread

"As a result, at a bare minimum, Xbox Series consoles should retain three to four "next-gen" game save states for the sake of Xbox Quick Resume—though, thanks to my back-compat limits, I've been unable to test this claim as of press time.

Instead, I've pushed my tester Xbox Series X console with a mix of XB1, X360, and OGX content to test how many save states I can cram into the console's internal memory before the feature stops working. My average result has been 12 games. Meaning, I can manually load 12 games, then go back in order to reload each of the dozen, and they'll each have a brief "Quick Resume" tag appear on the screen before reappearing in fully playable, middle-of-the-game action within five to 12 seconds."

This feature was built for me. I’m constantly shuttling between games. Can’t wait.

Fuck, still near instant load times with BB would still be a treat.

A BB patch for 60fps at 4k would be special.

I have an SSD in my base PS4 and the load times of Bloodborne are near negligible. I read that they put up some patches some time ago to help speed this up.

Welcome to the Xbox brigade, then.
@Dizzy @SaiWa this article LecherBear posted about load times has an interesting tidbit hidden in it (or purposely ignored <Neil01>) but it says Xbox limited the backwards compatibility to a 1000 games across all gens and has left out some huge unnamed hits.

But I thought they said ".......read my lips.....FULL backwards compatibility across all gens and every game ever !”

What gives ?

<TheWire1>
LOL, the AT writer said that Microsoft limited his testing to 1,000 games, not that it limited backwards compatibility across all generations to that figure. This is a list of games confirmed to be tested by Microsoft directly: the official pre-release compatibility list.

Today, I've been given the greenlight to talk about the console's current backward-compatibility testing phase, and Microsoft has had zero control of my tests or takeaways—other than limiting me to 1,000 games across every existing Xbox platform...

No, I didn’t get to all 1,000 games, sorry
The answer I eventually got was, "Sure, we'll call your bluff." Today, I've been given the greenlight to talk about the console's current backward-compatibility testing phase, and Microsoft has had zero control of my tests or takeaways—other than limiting me to 1,000 games across every existing Xbox platform

While the program will eventually encompass every game that works on Xbox One consoles, the pre-release compatibility list is a bit more narrow. 1,000 is a big number, but it leaves some huge Xbox hits out of my testing."

Why should I buy an Xbox over a Playstation?
Reason #6: Backwards compatibility
Not just for games, but for accessories that go with the console.
  • 98.1% Xbox One backwards compatibility (2,490 of 2,538 games); or 100% not counting Kinect-only games which the XSX doesn't support
  • 41.1% Xbox 360 backwards compatibility (525 of 1,278 games)
  • 3.9% Xbox backwards compatibility (39 of 996 games)
  • Compatible with all Xbox One accessories except the Kinect; meaning Xbox One controllers and headsets will work on the XSX/XSS
  • Conversely, XSX controllers will also be compatible with the Xbox One
vs.
  • "About 99%" of PS4 games are backwards compatible at launch; "thousands" have been tested for stability
  • 0% PS3, PS2, & PS backwards compatibility
  • Dualshock 4 controllers or other PS4 accessories not compatible with PS5 & PS5 accessories (like the new DualSense controller) not compatible with the PS4

BTW, for some reason, despite a pre-order launch a week earlier, Sony doesn't seem to have gotten PS5's out into any tech reviewers hands. Obviously the third-party information is pouring out for the XSX, and the Verge already published an article after having it for a full week!

Yet Sony never offered any specific details for their "99% compatible" claim from Jim Ryan to the WaPo, and the WaPo seems a rather strange outlet to first reveal that claim, since their writers don't specialize in this, and wouldn't be expected to follow up with questioning as technically sophisticated. Sony still hasn't made a specific claim about the exact number of games they've tested themselves since the "nearly 100" way back in March. They only said they hoped to have "thousands" of games tested by launch. The lack of information and transparency is starting to raise an eyebrow.

@Dizzy

This is the nonsense we shouldn't have to put up with but we are doing it anyway because certain people in here made a big deal out of it.

Sony > We built the PS5 system to be BC but we have not confirmed all PS4 games will work but they should. We are testing as fast as we can.
Xbox fanboys > Oh that's not confirmed BC full compatibility!
Sony > We are focusing and testing the top 100 PS4 games. With more time we will test more. Everything should work though
Xbox fanboys > That's still NOT BC!!!
Sony > We are now confirming that 99% of the PS4 games have been tested and do work.
Xbox fanboys > That's still not BC!!!!

MS > We offer FULL BC across all gens (technically not true with anything prior to last generation but whatever). So really > We offer FULL BC with Xbox One games.
MS (to a tester during pre-release testing) > You can test any games from this list of exactly 1000 games. These are the games we have tested and they are proven to work.

SO HOW DA FUCK IS THAT ANY DIFFERENT FROM WHAT SONY HAS BEEN SAYING!???? SONY has been upfront about their BC.

This isn't a slight on MS. It's a slight on their fans (Like Mick) who kept on harping about BC and here we are. MS has only confirmed tested 1000 games!!??? That's it!? I thought all of them would be ready by launch!? At least the Xbox One games!... There's like what? 4000 or so Xbox One games out there? And this article is basically saying only 1000 have been tested and confirmed by MS.?!

Because there is nothing to indicate this is the full list Microsoft has tested. This is just what they distributed pre-release. 1,000 seems like a conspicuously round number, don't you think? Hmmm...it's a chin-scratcher. Do you think maybe that is an arbitrary figure they decided to prep for distribution to testers? They promised full Xbox One backwards compatibility upon launch itself.

Is this really a hill you want to die on, right now? If stickling, how many games have been verified by Sony? How many of those verified by testers?

The answer to both those questions is zero.

No this is a hill you created and want to die on.

You are taking everything MS is saying without a shred of distrust whereas you doubt everything that Sony says or claims.

MS has being harping about FULL BC and yet they're only allowing a 1000 games to be played by an outside party tester. They've probably tested more but not all. That means its not a confirmed full BC. Will most of those games be playable on Series X? Absolutely I have no doubt about it.

And that's the position I am taking with both systems. Both company made claims and both have made efforts towards it. You choose to believe one and not believe the other. It screams of fanboism. It's absolutely hilarious that you would talk about transparency issues with Sony when it is MS who's being telling you full BC and yet only 1000 + undetermined number of games have been tested. That's not FULL BC. It's fanboys like you that want to nitpick every little thing hence why this is even a discussion. If the PS5 isn't BC with most of their PS4 games we will all know because we will be playing them.

Both systems will be more or less fully compatible with the last generation. That has always been my position.

They're only distributing 1,000 games to reviewers for independent verification pre-release. Do you know what "pre" means?
Both systems will be more or less fully compatible with the last generation. That has always been my position.
Sony hasn't distributed one game to reviewers for verification.

By your logic, we are expected to assume that Sony hasn't tested a single game, and that this also means not a single game is prepared with backwards compatibility at this stage.

You are arguing like a 5-year old with that retarded logic. I am not privy to what Sony is doing with their reviewers and honestly I don't care. The system will be released and we will all know if Sony has been lying or not and if they were lying it'll blow up in their face and affect sales.

The only thing I know is that MS claimed full BC which you've been bragging about incessantly for months and here we are about a month away from release but they're telling people to test the system with only these 1000 games. That's your BS that's unconfirmed now. Sony has been upfront about their BC efforts. They've sure its BC with most of their PS4 games but they didn't confirm till recently. Yet you've been shitting on one company and not the other.

You're the fanboy that is flailing desperately and can't defend what he's been bitching about these past few months.

Come release time I am positively sure most PS4 games will be playable on PS5. Same thing with Xbox One games on Series X.

It's pretty simple..

Journalists have been sent out "test" consoles were many of the features of the final product have yet to be enabled or made available, due to embargo etc..

Tom Warren in particular, has made it clear that Microsoft are constantly adding to the list of BC games which are accessible, since he received the console last week..

In regards to some of the big hits, maybe they want full optimization to be implemented before making it available to the media..

I am applying your fanboy logic to Sony's own lack of confirmation. For some reason your own logic infuriates you when it is applied evenly.

You are attempting to spin Microsoft's transparency and logistical readiness in accommodating reviewers at such an early stage as a negative while also forwarding a claim asserting certainty unsubstantiated by the information conveyed.

It's a gas to claim that Sony was "up front" (this is two words) about their BC efforts. They didn't saying anything for nearly five months after that initial announcement in March about "nearly 100" most played PS4 games being supported, and only after serious pressure from the gaming press. We still have no idea what any of their claims means. Will some be optimized, and others not? Will they be running in a glorified compatibility mode that isn't tested or patched when glitches are found?

We literally learned about the lack of backwards compatibility from an Ubisoft internal memo leak before Sony finally admitted this officially on the 18th of September-- a full day after they opened up preorders on the 17th, LMFAO:
Sony confirms PlayStation 5 won't natively support PS3, PS2, PS1 games (September 18th)

"Sony has been upfront about their BC". You fanboy flag-wavers are beyond reach.

His shilling and trolling is ridiculous at this point. Anyone thinking this clown has an ounce of objectivity is delusional.

Look at the headline he posted in the PS5 thread. Clickbait nonsense that affected PS5 deliveries in Ireland only at GameStop.

The point is certain posters in here have been bragging about full BC but full BC ain't ready as of now. It's not confirmed because the full list of games haven't been tested. I wouldn't even make a stink about it except some posters were shitting on Sony about it and hence why I am pointing out the sheer irony behind this issue.

As I've stated. I have no doubt both systems will have near full BC if not full BC with last gen games. I am just pointing the hypocrisy..

LOL. Look at you spinning your BS.

We ALL knew there was not BC on PS3 games.. And PS2 and PS1 was a distant hope none of us really cared for.

Read your own fuckin' article. The 2nd sentence starts with "Its not a huge surprise"...

Most of us gamers knew this shit already. LOL.

Speaking of BC with older gen your dumbass once posted about full BC with older gen but it turned out to be a portion of those Xbox and Xbox 360. Of course you edited your post once you got called out for it.

Oh, I'm sorry, did the factual story I posted get under your skin? The one about Ireland where I posted a reaction GIF with an Irish actor?

Triggering you Sony fanboys is just too irresistible.

Various journalists have made out clear that many of the features are still under embargo, and the UI has yet to be finalized.. so yes, it is in fact a "test" console.

If we "all knew", then why was that officially confirmed by Sony a day after pre-orders opened?

Weird. It seems counterintuitive they'd waste their time confirming something everybody already "knew".

Yes but most of these features shouldn't in theory affect BC. MS claimed full BC for launch. Why only 1000 games? Is it not a simple matter of loading the game and then playing it?

This means a good chunk of these games haven't been tested. meaning not confirmed full BC. Is it most likely BC? yes. But it's not confirmed.

Mick was bitching about Sony not having full BC because most of those games are untested hence unconfirmed. And that's where MS is at this point apparently. A good chunk of games have been tested but by Mick's standard MS failed full BC. He's been doubting Sony but not MS. That's what I am pointing out.
