Xbox Official Xbox thread

I agree with some of this but disagree that it's nowhere near the evolutionary leap you speak of...

While it's hard to tell the difference with stuff like polygon counts and textures, there's a huge difference with where games are now with more subtle things like lighting, ambient occlusion, self shadowing, facial animations, pixel shading, and now ray tracing.

Just give an example.. I have been on assassin's Creed fix lately, and going back to games like assassin's Creed 2 after playing origins and Odyssey is a huge leap. Even playing things like Halo MCC is not easy to Look at after playing far cry 5, doom eternal and the newest COD.

If you have a really nice display you can definitely see a huge difference with these games.

.

100% right here. I never really noticed to big of a leap until earlier this year when I upgraded to a 65" 4K HDR10 UHD TV and also upgraded from the day one XB1 to the XB1X. During the whole quarantine thing I played Far Cry 5, Far Cry New Dawn, and Read Dead Redemption 2, which are some of the best looking games of this gen.

Far Cry 5 was my first Far Cry experience, so I went back and picked up Far Cry 4 and the remastered version of Far Cry 3 during a Ubisoft sale and I couldn't even get into them as they felt too dated.

Try Star wars Jedi Fallen Order

It's CGI movie level graphics..

Is there a big difference between regular PS4 on HD 1080p and PS4 Pro on HDR10 ?
Like big.

I'm not sure I don't have either of those systems. From my experience with the Xbox One and Xbox One X is that it kind of depends on the game, but if you have a nice TV there is a pretty significant difference in the two systems.

Anything with HDR is super noticeable.. more so than resolution really. The expanded contrast and color palette really makes images pop.

I play PC games on an HDR monitor and people will tell you that HDR isn't worth the investment but I 100% disagree- I do concede it can be a hassle to set up properly but once you get it calibrated properly (and this can be tricky) its jawdropping...

I just can’t get over that I have to play as Ronald McDonald in the game.
Seriously ruins it for me.

Never knew gingers bothered me in that way.

"All day yesterday I went through our full review of our July 23rd show," begins Xbox chief Phil Spencer.

"My role is different now. I get to sit back and watch more as a consumer. One of the things that really strikes me is the creative diversity in the portfolio. I am a fan of Xbox, obviously, but I don't mind going to 'are we the shooter box?' is it 'Gears, Halo, Forza, Gears, Halo, Forza'? I know all the memes about us. And I look at what the teams have built already this year, the things that we're going to show, and the things that are coming out later this year, and it is high quality, very different, and takes some creative risks."

So instead of developing some new, unique, or interesting IP’s, gobble up every established studio that’s for sale and make them exclusives.
