Who had Clinton at 98% besides the HuffPo?

I thought Silver's final 68/32 Polls-Plus Cast for Clinton was the best reading of the polls as I'd seen them. Definitely didn't see that smackdown coming. Trump is such a piece of shit, but oh well, let's go build something.

The Princeton Election Consortium had her at 99% or so.

What would the dems block? They don't have anything - not the house, not the senate, and definitely not the Court soon.

Right, they have free reign if Republicans can now fully embrace Trump.

They could block in the Senate any legislation Trump and GOP try to pass. They could block any of Trumps nominations, including those to the court.

Did you forget how Congress works?

I didn't forget - I don't know how it works. I'm not American.

Oh, that explains it. In the US Senate one party can block legislation going foreword by a filibuster. A 60% vote is needed to break it. The GOP does not have 60% in the Senate. So the GOP will have to work with the Dems at least a bit to get things done.

I'm not hoping the Democrats do block everything. It was stupid when the GOP did it, and it would be just as stupid for the Dems. That being said the democrats can't just Trump and the GOP roll, they have to at least be in the discussion.

I hear you, that was the second time I heard someone bring up blocking everything and my first thought was, I thought everyone hated that, what with the national parks and all

I'm sure some on the left will call for that, but I'm not one. I say lets get Taxes, Immigration reform, Refugee Vetting, and Infrastructure done. Health care, I would just want something, even if it was just temporary to keep the people who have insurance through the exchanges with the subsidies covered if/when Obama care is repealed.

Trump and the GOP are going to have power, lets see what they can do.

This could totally just be some eye of the shitstorm prelude to a psychotic episode, no doubt, but I feel Grinch-with-a-grown-heart happy for all you Whos down in Whoville. I hope for the best from President Trump and I congratulate you silly asses on your determination. This election has been a lot of fun if nothing else.

@Tropodan, I believe you have something for me...

America, you're a fucking trip. God bless and good night.

Are you even in America? Usually people that live in America don't refer to our country by saying America like its a individual tense. Your drunk go home.

I'm expecting worst case scenario.

  • Sea levels will rise due to policies relaxing environmental restrictions
  • Manufacturing jobs will not return to America despite repealing trade laws
  • Costs of goods will go up due to increased tariffs on imported goods (that we still won't be making ourselves)
  • Affordable Care Act repeal will bankrupt many Americans after they lose the plans they gained through the market place
This is how I see Trump's "policies" playing out.

I'm not going to gloat. Respect for to @Fawlty for making this thread.

I'm grateful trump won, we'll just see how it pans out. I hope all of you guys on both sides of the aisle have a safe and good day. May grace, hope, and peace be with all of us.

yep, fingers crossed

Then why do they call 51+ seats for one party a senate majority if it doesn't enjoy the powers of your typical legislative majority (ie carte blanch)?

Since this feels like a grammar nazi post

"You're"

But yes add me to the concession list and congratulations to you all....

As I wrote before, I am afraid of what this means for my country and the Western world in general. I fear a general and personal lack of prosperity.

That said - I seriously am happy for you guys for the genuine happiness and hope you seem to be feeling (in addition to the gloating, but that is somewhat understandable). Enjoy the moment.

I'd say it's near certain they pass tax reform that looks like the one Trump proposed or something like Ryan's plan (both similar). We will likely see financial deregulation and I think it's likely that social security as it works now is in jeopardy and Obamacare is on the chopping block. We will see a conservative SCJ get appointed, which can have a negative impact on social issues. We'll make no progress on climate change at best, and go backwards at worst.

I see these as massive negatives, but we'll see, I hope my predictions are wrong or at least I'm wrong about the outcomes.

I just hope the Dems do not turn this into at minimum 4 years of filibustering. It would be nice if a president is actually given a chance to do what he says he is going to do. The gridlock sucks the most.

The way I see it is that it would only be fair play after 8 years of it from the other side.
