"What if Ronda is actually on her way out?" Ridiculous.

I will put money on that a Rousey-Carano fight has more to do with a promotional deal Zuffa and Warner Bros. for 'The Athena Project'.

Surprise! Suprise! Roberta is fighting at 145 right now but according to her interview plans on cutting to 135.

Yep. I'm waiting to see what happens.

Jennifer Maia (8-3-1) BR vs. Mariana Morais (4-1-0) BR - End of 1st round and into 2nd round at 125

I'll keep an eye out for the whole of the fight.

At this point I think a 155lb division is a better division for the bigger girls than the145lb division because the 145lb division is dead and it's going to continue to be dead unless/until it's in the UFC.

It is possible as almost any of the 145ers who can make 135 have been stating they want to try and get down there to try and get into the UFC. However there are still a pretty good number of women fighting at 145 and I'd suggest they keep it up.

Get the fights they can and when they feel they can either fight up or fight down then do that as it makes sense.

Annalisa Bucci doesn't get mentioned all that much but she put up a great fight against Pannie Kianzad (lost 29-28) but there is no way she can make 135, many of her MT fights are at 155(70kg) but that is without weight cutting all that much.

Given some more time to develop Bucci could be a good addition to Invicta's Featherweight Division.

Some questions will be answered when Bucci takes on Maria Hougaard Djursaa next month, see if Bucci rebounds from her loss to Kianzad.

-- To expand on the subject a little bit --

Some fighters who don't get as much attention as those who have fought in Invicta or are otherwise fairly well known excepting those making moves from 145 to 135 or talking about it.

Recent moves:

Milana Dudieva (10-3-0) RU
Kate Da Silva (7-1-0) NZ
Lina Akhtar Lansberg (2-1-0) SE
Arlene Blencowe (4-4-0) AU

Planning to move fairly soon and or have fights coming up at 135:

Pannie Kianzad (5-0-0) SE
Talita Nogueira (6-0-0) BR
Alexandra Buch (8-3-0) DE
Ashley Evans-Smith (2-0-0) US

Talking about moving, down the road:

Roberta Paim (3-0-0) BR
Cassie Crisano (2-1-0) US (Still looking to see how her fight yesterday ended.)

Won't be dropping weight anytime soon.

Maria Hougaard Djursaa (5-4-0) DK
Faith Van Duin (4-0-0) NZ
Annalisa Bucci (6-3-0) IT

Here are some other up and comers, there are about a dozen others who show some promise to differing degrees but I didn't want to clog up this with everybody.

Some of these fighters could drop down in weight while others won't be able to:

Latoya Walker (2-0-0) US
Gabrielle Holloway (3-1-0) US
Barbara Nalepka (2-0-0) PL
Andria Wawro Caplan(2-1-0) US
Marion Reneau (3-0-0) US
Pilipenko Irina (2-0-0) RU
Anastasia Kravets (2-0-0) UA
Marina Shafir (1-0-0) US
Kelly Faszholz (1-0-0) US

On this same subject:

Lina Akhtar Lansberg (2-1-0) SE will be taking on Talita Nogueira (6-0-0) BR in Nogueira's bantamweight debut next month.

A lot of people are blaming the UFC for the recent exodus of 145/155 lb fighters who suddenly want to be BWs...but I think Invicta is as much to blame or more to blame. They used to provide a platform for bouts for 145 lb fighters (and were rumored to make a 155 lb division too). But, with one event over a 11(+) months span, these bigger fighters have almost nowhere to go. Most of them are probably cutting weight just so they can find a fight somewhere. If Invicta had 6 events per year - like they announced they would - and there were 1-2 fights at 145 or 155 on each card, I bet you`d see fewer fighters trying to squeeze into BW.

I don't see Invicta as a problem for these weight classes myself. Both the 145ers and 155ers have actually tended to grow quite a bit over the past two years. It was only with the UFC opening up a women's 135 division that a mass of fighters started looking to move around from 125 and 145.

Even so there have been plenty of actual fights taking place at 145 and 155 this past year. They may not be some of the marquee fighters people are used to but people in those divisions are actually fighting. Invicta allows their fighters to fight outside Invicta, such as Amanda Bell twice now.

Even so there are twice as many 155ers today as there was a year ago. There continues to be a hefty number of 145ers (about 130 of them, up 35-40 since the later part of last year) and a decent rate of fights taking place in that division.

The biggest problem for 145 is that much of its better, experienced, and lower in body weight fighters are looking to move down to get into the UFC. That tends to make it harder to get Cyborg a decent challenger, along with the more established fighters like Gomes and Budd who could currently challenge dealings with fights that have gone belly due to injuries (either their own or their opponents).

Invicta does need to get with their event schedule this year but that is another issue but you cannot ignore what Cyborg will do in this equation. Cyborg talks about challenging for the 135 belt against Lauren Murphy as next on her agenda after she defends her belt against Gomes.

Many people have tended to point out that with two dominant champions at 145 and 135 the divisions aren't as interesting due to lack of realistic challengers. Due to the UFC bringing in the 115ers and Invicta replenishing their ranks with many 125ers (aside from the 135 effect from the UFC already having taken place) I feel that Honchak no longer has really serious challengers either as she has beaten them.

After TUF 20 gets underway there might be a return to decent challengers on the horizon at 125 as well, or, maybe, a good one will materialize out of the mass of up and comers still fighting at that weight.

Just some things to think about.

I`ll admit, part of my rant might just me being irritated with Invicta....every time I check their page I get that same photo of Barb clocking Leslie....with no updates....

....but, I think where I`m going with this rant is: all athletes need something to aspire to. For fighters, this goal is usually to become champion...and this is manifested in the form of a championship belt. Invicta was great for being a place where fighters could work towards such a goal. Look at the straw weights before the UFC took them. Everyone was gunning for Carla and each SW match seemed to hold a lot of importance. Other than BW, every fighter in every division considered capturing the Invicta belt to be the ultimate goal. This was true of 145ers and it would have been true had they created a 155 division (I was pumped for a possible Tweet vs. Rothenhausler bout at 155!). But, with one event over the course of nearly a year, I think all fighters who were not BWs (or SWs now with TUF 20) have gotten "lost", for lack of a better term. Fighters just seem to be looking for fights, not looking to become champ. This seems more like women`s MMA in 2004, than women`s MMA now in 2014. Yes, it`s nice that Invicta let`s its fighters fight elsewhere...but they shouldn`t have to. Katja Kankanpaa is a top 10 SW and she`s fighting someone soon I`ve barely ever heard of. She isn`t working closer towards the goal of becoming the champ, or at least challenging better fighters...she`s just looking for a fight, any fight. This seems like a step backwards to me. We talk about all of the strides forward the sport has taken in the last three years, but we still have great fighters just looking for work, basically. And this, I blame at least partly on Invicta`s incredibly irregular schedule.

I think all fighters view the UFC in high esteem and want to eventually fight there, but I think this recent trend of fighters changing their natural weight class to become BWs or SWs is partially wanting to fight in the UFC, and partially I think it`s related to my above point. At least, if you are a SW or BW, you have a goal in front of you - i.e. challenge and (hopefully) beat the champ. I think the UFC has regularly scheduled events, rankings, chances to fight elite competition, and a goal (get the belt) and these things appeal to fighters. Thus, we are seeing more 145ers claiming they want to fight at 135. We are seeing atomweights trying to bulk up and fight at 115 and seeing 125ers trying to slim down to 115 as well. They all want that stability, the prestige of fighting in the UFC, and they want a tangible goal. This is where I think Invicta is really dropping the ball.

Sorry, I know criticizing Invicta isn`t cool with some people, but this is my opinion. Believe me, no one wants Invicta to get their shit together more than me; I`ve watched every card multiple times and I`ve sang their praises a lot. But, they are starting to undo some of the good they did for the sport. The UFC can only do so much (and they really don`t schedule many fights for the ladies); I believe it should be Invicta`s responsibility to keep this sport in the forefront...to keep an active schedule of fights, and to give female fighters something to strive for.

My two yen.

Paloma Fabrykant's hand was busted up during her fight last night. Here's a pic. There's an x-ray to but this one is more demonstrative.

WTF, that looks like the hands on them blow-up rubber sumo suits :icon_neut

WTF, that looks like the hands on them blow-up rubber sumo suits :icon_neut

Yeah, nasty business. Ouch.

Paloma Fabrykant suffered a dislocation in some of the bones in her hand. Sucks. It was as hard as hell to get accurate information about that fight all night long. I kept checking and nothing but "Success" and "Congratulations" and then she mentioned she was sorry, etc., had a busted hand. Points. Etc.

Right now she has most of the fight up on her Facebook. A bit messy and disjointed. Lost by split decision in the end. Tough. She had her opponent's back (Flor Fonseca) at the end of the second round but couldn't finish a rear-naked-choke due to her messed up hand. Even in taking a tough loss that some people felt she won, she is a trooper for keep on fighting under the circumstances.

Having seen much of the fight Flor Fonseca did light up Fabrykant on her feet. Fabrykant needs better standup training, particularly how to deal with an opponent who really comes at her.

Fabrykant posted an x-ray, I'll post it so you can see the damage.

She'll be going into surgery and getting some plats inserted to keep her bones in the right places.

While looking for fights these last few days and nights I've been watching a bit of kickboxing and Muay Thai. I came across one of Joanna Jedrzejczyk's fights from last year and was annoyed to see she got the shaft in an entertaining fight against a Thai fighter, Dunnapa Mor Rattana Bundit. Good fight but I think the wrong person got the nod.

A link for people interested.

I think it is okay to have some criticism of Invicta for not having it all going smoothly even if I don't feel that way, too much, myself.

I also like the idea of a belt to work for and Invicta has been an important force in that regard for Women's MMA. With that being said, I feel that fighters would be leaving Invicta regardless, for the most part, if the UFC called for them to come on over. Invicta wouldn't want those fighters to worry about the jump either, even if there is a part of them that secretly wishes they could keep their top fighters.

As for fighters fighting, many of them just want to fight. It is true it is nice to have something to work for but failing having that right in front of them it is for them to just be able to get fights. Years ago there would only be a handful of fights a month, if that, except for the rare Smackgirl card. Things are better then they used to be.

So I'm glad the Invicta fighters who want to fight are getting fights. In face it is good from my perspective that some of them are out there getting fights from other, regionally speaking, fighters who are getting their opportunities to fight a well known fighter.

I am probably coming from a different perspective in this because I follow tons of different fighters from all over the world and I know who Alyona Rassohyna is and what she can do. That could be a very interesting fight although Rassohyna is a bit smaller then Kankaanp

So Thirdpress - what's the latest you thinking about the TUF20 announcement of the rest of the cast???

Have you guys seen the announcement by Tuff-n-Uff that their June card will be held FREE! in Las Vegas?

On Saturday, June 7th , Tuff N Uff will hold a full night of action-packed amateur MMA fights live from the Thomas and Mack in Las Vegas with admission completely FREE of charge.
http://tuffnuff.com/2014/05/tuff-n-...vent-is-free-and-open-to-the-public-june-7th/

That card features the women's SW tournament championship for the right to earn an Invicta contract. The finale is between Jamie Moyle and Molly Wren-Holms. I don't know a lot about the two ladies, but apparently Moyle has faced Tecia Torres and is quite tiny herself at just 5'1" tall.

My wife and I are considering going to this event, is anyone else in the area and interested?

Sounds like fun. Interesting that they will be giving free admission.

I'll be in Thailand. around then.

UFC debutant Alexis Dufresne might just be the UFC's newest badass

By John Morgan May 13, 2014 8:00 am

Alexis Dufresne might be a little bit of an unknown to her potential opponents in the UFC’s women’s bantamweight division. So here’s a little advice for them all: Avoid pre-fight trash talk.

“I’m kind of fueled by hate,” Dufresne admitted to MMAjunkie. “I’ve hated every opponent I’ve had. For some reason they want to talk crap. That’s what gets me going. The more my opponent talks s–t to me, the happier I’m going to be when I get in the cage.

Morning Report: With the help of Caio Terra, Alexis Davis believes she can stop Ronda Rousey's armbar
By David St. Martin  @SaintMMA on May 13 2014, 8:00a

One of these is not like the others. After racking up quick wins over her relatively brief professional career, UFC women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey could face her toughest test in Japanese and Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt Alexis Davis. 3-0 since joining the UFC in 2013, Davis says she's doing everything possible to prepare for Rousey's signature armbar.

"Even watching some of her previous fights there's a lot of stuff in my game obviously I've had to improve,' Davis told Inside MMA. "She's a dynamic, explosive fighter so it's something I've been pushing."

So Thirdpress - what's the latest you thinking about the TUF20 announcement of the rest of the cast???

Here is part of a post I did in the TUF forums back on 4/29 in spoiler tags. I'll go into further discussion and cutting afterwards based on some of the comments I made and other information that has since been confirmed.

Taking out those with subpar records and only one professional fight we are left with the fighters listed below. Taking the other fighters out has nothing to do with their talent or potential, just keeping in mind the UFC's official line about having a winning record and White's own comment about being very leery of having anyone with only one fight under their belt going into TUF 20.

Below are 21 fighters. I can see someone like Angela Hill possibly replacing one or two of the fighters below but I am sticking with what the UFC and White have said.

Which single fighter would you cut from the list below?

Audrey Alvarez (2-0-0) US 3/13 big win over Anita Rodriguez (5-4-0) US. Flyweight.

Nina Ansaroff (6-3-0) US 12/13 big win over Munah Holland. Flyweight.

Kathina Catron (4-3-0) US 7/13, used to fight at flyweight. Hits hard but has had trouble with takedown defense in the past.

Angelica Chavez (4-2-0) US 7/12 Flirted with atomweight, lost her last two fights.

Heather Jo Clark (6-4-0) US 10/13. Has often done well in fights until injuries take the fight away from her.

Aisling Daly (14-5-0) IE 12/13 Former top flyweight with a variety of good wins, including over Jessica Eye.

Lisa Ellis (15-8-0) US 7/12 Often top five contender at atomweight and strawweight. Has a win over Aisling Daly and a loss to Jessica Penne.

Claire Fryer (4-1-0) AU 11/13

Paulina Granados (2-1-0) US 9/13 Atomweight. Has a loss to Tessa Rose Simpson

Helen Harper (2-0-0) GB (TH) 8/13 Background in MT.

Jocelyn Jones-Lybarger (3-1-0) US 4/13 Mostly fights at flyweight, solid all around fighter.

Justine Kish (4-0-0) US 2/14 Muay Thai champion. Big wins over Randa Markos, Munah Holland, and Jin Tang. Has mostly fought at flyweight, missed weight by a bit in her fight against Markos.

Jennifer Liou (2-0-0) US 2/14 Flyweight. More of a ground fighter but decent skills.

Angela Magana (11-6-0) US 9/13 Often times top contender at flyweight and strawweight. Has wins over Barb Honchak, Jessica Aguilar, and Lynn Alverez. Has losses to Jessica Penne, Stephanie Eggink, Jessica Aguilar, and Jessica Eye.

Randa Markos Thomas (4-1-0) CA 4/14 Good all around fighter, probably has better ground fighting but not as specialized as some of the other fighters listed here. Has a loss to Justine Kish.

Amy Montenegro (3-0-0) US 12/13 Flyweight, decent wins too.

Michelle Ould (7-3-0, 2NC) US 11/12 Top ten flyweight with good wins. Win over Munah Holland.

Jessica Penne (11-2-0) US 7/13 Top and Second ranked atomweight. Big wins over Angela Magana and Lisa Ellis.

Diana Rael (5-3-0) US 4/13 Top ten atomweight.

Sarah Schneider-Chance (6-6-0) US 7/12 Fought from bantamweight to strawweight. Wins over the likes of Kaitlin Young and Julie Kedzie.

Tessa Rose Simpson (3-1-0) US 11/13 Win over Paulina Granados at atomweight. Simpson previously fought at higher weights.

If I had to guess I would likely think one of these fighters listed below would be the one to go. All of them have skills. Ganados is probably the most complete fighter out of those listed below.

Angelica Chavez
Paulina Granados
Helen Harper
Jennifer Liou

Maria Andaverde (1-2-0) US
Chelsea Bailey (1-0-0) US
Charlene Gellner (0-3-0) US
Laura Salazar (1-0-0) US
Karina Taylor (1-4-0) US

Here is a list of TUF 20 tryout participants who are fighting within the next month or so.

Maria Andaverde (1-2-0) US
Tyra Parker (3-4-0) US
Jenny Liou (2-0-0) US
Jillian Lybarger (0-1-0) US
Jocelyn Lybarger (3-1-0) US

Remaining fighters who don't fit the UFC's requirements.

Audrey Alvarez (2-0-0) US
Ashley Yoder (1-0-0) US
Melissa Myers (0-1-0) US
Kristi Lopez (1-0-0) US
Angela Hill (1-0-0) US
Helen Harper (2-0-0) GB (TH)
Sharice Davids (1-0-0) US
Holly Cline (1-0-0) US
Mandy Polk (1-0-0) US

Here is a list of the remaining TUF 20 participants.

Nina Ansaroff (6-3-0) US
Kathina Catron (4-3-0) US
Angelica Chavez (4-2-0) US
Heather Jo Clark (6-4-0) US
Aisling Daly (14-5-0) IE

Angela Magana (11-6-0) US
Randa Markos Thomas (4-1-0) CA
Amy Montenegro (3-0-0) US
Michelle Ould (7-3-0, 2NC) US
Jessica Penne (11-2-0) US
Diana Rael (5-3-0) US
Tessa Rose Simpson (3-1-0) US

Of the list above the fighters most likely to be cut, in my opinion, based on interpretation of criteria and skills shown these fighters are probably out.

Paulina Granados (2-1-0) US
Kathina Catron (4-3-0) US
Angelica Chavez (4-2-0) US

We are left with 13 fighters to make up the 8 participants and 2 alternates. There is a case for the three fighters listed above to be in this mix as well while taking out some of those fighters listed below. Claire Fryer is a relative unknown quantity in comparison to some choices but it this probably comes down to who did what at the tryouts, how many Aussies are wanted on the cast, drama and personality.

Nina Ansaroff (6-3-0) US
Heather Jo Clark (6-4-0) US
Aisling Daly (14-5-0) IE
Lisa Ellis (15-8-0) US
Claire Fryer (4-1-0) AU

Angela Magana (11-6-0) US
Randa Markos Thomas (4-1-0) CA
Amy Montenegro (3-0-0) US
Michelle Ould (7-3-0, 2NC) US
Jessica Penne (11-2-0) US
Diana Rael (5-3-0) US
Tessa Rose Simpson (3-1-0) US

Of the fighters listed above one of them has dropped out of a fight since the TUF 20 tryouts. She is ...

Amy Montenegro (3-0-0) US

I'll point out that there is some speculation that would whittle the remaining fighters down a little more but that is basically gossip so I will leave that out.

Notes:

I made another change today based on another tryout participant who is now listed as having a fight next month. 5/15/14

I made another change today based on another tryout participant taking a fight, although the fighter in question only had one fight anyways. 5/18/14

Thanks for putting that info out there. I wonder if she can reasonably make that weight. Albu would have to cut a good bit of muscle mass to get there unless she can cut weight well.

This is weird.

Cassie Crisano vs. Beatriz Zambonini

There has been some confusion about what took place in this fight at the end. I first read it was a decision win then a TKO (for Zambonini) but watching it it looks like Crisano ought to have the win (she even has her hand up in victory) but then the referee grabs Zambonini and holds her hand up in victory after Crisano had power bombed her.

Crisano should have the win here.
