Official Women's Division Discussion #27

I guess Brazil vs Japan WMMA really is cursed after all - even the GOAT (Hamasaki) lost with brutal swiftness against a mediocre Brazilian.
No more such matchups plz
<Oku01>

although it does remind you... just how good is Carla Esparza? ;)

Didn't she lose to the same Brazilian Hamasaki lost to?

But yeah, they should try to avoid such match-ups, because they're more often than not, showcase fights for the bigger fighter. Jandiroba's got some serious skills on her, so she probably would've won even if they were the same size, but the fact remains that she was clearly bigger and stronger than the atomweight she fought. Moroz vs Bueno Silva, Mizuki vs Lemos, they're all in with this trend, just wait until they matchup Lookbonmee against Rodriguez or something.

It was Mizuki who got thoroughly dominated by Jandiroba.

The size difference actually surprised me, I didn't realise Virna was so much bigger / Kanako was so small. I expected Kanako's striking to look better (it seemed quite good vs Randa, so I got the vibe it was on a steep upward trend, but I guess Randa really is a can these days?) but I think the height/reach didn't help, she still needs a lot more experience to deal with those kind of situations. Virna's striking looked better on the other hand (of course she was fighting a one-armed opponent most of the bout, but before that too).
Supposedly Murata's coach says the arm injury came from hyperextension during a strike, not the armbar, but I'd have to imagine the armbar might have softened things up...

Dern or Virna vs Rose or Weili would be interdasting, I could see things being shaken up beyond the '3-4 fighters worth watching and the rest are miles behind' like all the know-naughts like to say in those bouts (well, it's progress from the 'only 1-2 are worth watching' that was the stock line ~2 years ago...)

Congrats to the two new DEEP JEWELS champions, Saori Oshima at Atomweight (makes her a two weight champion now, as she was already the DEEP Microweight champion), and Seika Izawa at strawweight.

DJ 33 was a fun event. 50% finish rate, with one tko and three submissions (all by armbar).

Also, Yoko Higashi defeated KING Reina in what looked like an absolute slugfest. I haven't watched the whole fight yet, but what I saw was Reina walking straight intoo straight punches from Higashi, while landing big bombs on Higashi as well. First fight outside of Pancrase for Higashi, first Japanese opponent for KING Reina.

Is there anyone who can beat Amanda

Many fighters have appeared invincible until they aren't. I'm not favoring anyone over her but one never knows. A bad camp, an off night or the opponent finding and exploiting a previously unknown flaw - anything can happen.

Amanda also has a clear weakness. Her cardio is suspect when forced to expend energy in grappling exchanges. She is clearly the GOAT but I won't be surprised when she does lose.

This is pure speculation but i would not be surprised if this is a Lena weight cut issue. Everyone knew she would be huge in comparison to Kyra but maybe she was a little too big even for 115.
