Official Women's Division Discussion #27

Oh look, someone named
QamSW7S.gif

Serious question, has any title challenger or "contender" (at least ranked at or near the top of their division) besides Chookagian and Spencer, worn the infamous white shirt? Katlyn and Felicia got mauled, Waterson got beat up by Joanna, etc. I hope Amanda decides to wear one for her fight with Megan, and loses her title by default.

Champion always wears black & gold, and is therefore not subject to the the white shirt curse. Waterson also wore white and lost against Esparza, Randa and PVZ were in white when they lost against Ribas, and Holly was in a white top in her loss against GDR.

Has there been a boxer who transitioned to MMA who was clearly a good striker? It seems like all them are not very good strikers for being boxers. Joanna switched from MT and was dominating in the hardest female division. These boxing girls are getting out striked or barely scraping by. @Eater of Souls The evidence is piling up that you were right when you said these boxing girls are not that good.

Basically the only extremely skilled female boxers are the ones who’ve won gold medals in the olympics.

The answer to pretty much every question on striking is Valentina. :D

Women’s boxing is behind women’s mma in terms of development, even though it’s been around longer. However, with it being added to the Olympics, and some of the women gaining in notoriety for more than their looks or who their daddy is, it’s starting to gain some ground. Mikaela Mayer and Jessica McCaskill are two Americans to keep an eye on. McCaskill just dethroned Cecelia Braekhus.

Given what I wrote about Wolf earlier this year I'm not surprised by her less than impressive win.

She punches better than Holly but it's not like she has heavy hands, nor does she have good footwork & defence. She was also fighting from a Holm-ish stance in MMA with her body leaned too far forward which messes up the mechanics & power of her punches. Sure it's her MMA debut and a lot of rough edges are expected, but she's got a lot of work to do and not much time to do it given her age.

Honestly, I think this result was for the best. They can send her off for development and close down 145 after Nunes beats Megan back to Invicta or Bellator. Put Tennant on standby and bring her in to 135 in the next few months, that division badly needs new fighters.

Halle Berry's new wmma film Bruised seems to be getting a lot more shine than the average mma movie, but is this really Valentina with the naff wig and moniker?

It doesn’t looks like the official promotion picture, I think it’s like a fan art, since it comes from a Halle Berry fan account... we’ll have to wait for the real Halle to post the movie’s promotional images...

U made me remember Ana Julaton...

:(

That doesn't make sense.

Why would they send her off to development if they are gonna close down the division? Why would they even give her contract if they were planning to close down 145?

I didn't watch the entire episode, they gave her a contract? I don't know what to say. I really don't.

I forgot about her. Now that you reminded me of her I am now reminded of her fight vs Heather Hardy. Two boxers fight and the fight turns into a terrible low level grappling heavy fight. WTF?
That fight was ugly...
I believe they we're also planning to match them in a boxing match... But julaton suddenly retired (for good?).

Does anyone know why she did that?

Invicta weighins today, fights are tomorrow.

Interested how Pa'aluhi's black belt bjj game pans out, totally diferent skill set to her early days. I guess the UFC would find her 6-6 record a lot less attractive than Wolf's 0-0 though.

Crazy to think that ever the bridesmaid Ashley Cummins fought on the very first Invicta show, hope they let her come in with her flag, despite how triggering it is to some.

Exactly. And even the "talented" ones are doing well in what is about the shallowest talent pool in female combat sports. Your best overall female strikers come from MT/ Dutch kickboxing for multiple reasons: using more striking weapons - obviously - but the talent pool in women's MT is huge compared to that of women's boxing.
