Official Women's Division Discussion #27

Honestly, how does someone gain back that much that quickly without an IV?

Depends on how well you cut and rehydrate. And it is not just water. First water, then water + glucose/dextrose (and each gram of glycogen holds four grams of water) then, often, an ibuprofen or two which really helps retain water. After you have done a serious cut, assuming sodium manipulation as well, your body is primed to suck up water, yes, but also salts and sugars. Specifics differ depending on individuals.

Some people cut water very badly and struggle with rehydration (issues with Na/K pump, etc). People who generally cut water easily rehydrate easily. One of the big advantages of IV rehydration is that you generally avoid cramping.

There are no studies under the extreme conditions where a fighter cuts weight, btw. No ethics board will allow it. So anyone saying "I have researched" should follow that with "there is no actual scientific consensus."

Based on personal experience I always felt better the few heavy water cuts I did using an IV. Less cramping, easier to achieve precise results. So yes, safer for me. And then the assholes at USADA/WADA banned it.

More details. Say you consume 1 liter of water, then 1 liter of water + 50 grams of dextrose (no salt yet). The addition of dextrose will be most taken up by your muscles assuming you properly depleted (to a degree, you cannot overdo it and expect to recover in a day) will cause 200 grams of water (approx) to be sucked into your muscle tissues, which means it will quickly clear your digestive track. You do not want to use a sugar like fructose which is broken down solely by a phosphofructokinase which is mostly present in the liver. Which means sugar goes there instead of into your muscle tissues (catalytic conversion). Now, assuming during that hour you get five or so liters of water down + 200 grams of dextrose that is 8.8 lbs just from water alone with the sugar pulling it all into your muscles and an inflammatory response modified by the addition of ibuprofen which will make it easier to suck up enough water to make the final jump to 10 lbs.

I can expand more if anyone cares.

I hate when injuries kill a career. Hopefully she can get it figured out the second time around. I wonder why MMA fighters seem to have setbacks more often than NBA and NFL players. I can't remember the last time an NFL or NBA player had a bad ACL surgery.

Danyelle is clearly bigger than Tennant but that does not bother me since this is her debut vs a 3-0 opponent.

She's a Lightweight cutting to Featherweight, to fight a Bantamweight that decided not to cut weight (Tennant has a flabby tummy at 143.5). Unlike many other women making their debut, Wolfe has credentials in another combat sport, so she's not some amateur that decided to turn pro.

However, Tennant has the MMA experience advantage and an Invicta tournament win under her name. They should be sort of evenly matched. The ideal situation would be an win for Wolfe, she'd immediately get signed and add a name to 145, while Tennant can go back to 135 where she belongs.

Halle Berry's new wmma film Bruised seems to be getting a lot more shine than the average mma movie, but is this really Valentina with the naff wig and moniker?

lol why give her a wig? Jesus. Also just imagining the idea of Halle Berry beating Valentina Schevchenko even in a movie far surpasses my suspension of disbelief lol.

Rock hard for RENA vs Tomimatsu.

Make up depts are too lazy these days, they should have given Val a blue mohawk

Extra likes sent your way (not that it fucking matters but I took a couple of seconds to do it) for the above post. Truly laughed.

Serious question, has any title challenger or "contender" (at least ranked at or near the top of their division) besides Chookagian and Spencer, worn the infamous white shirt? Katlyn and Felicia got mauled, Waterson got beat up by Joanna, etc. I hope Amanda decides to wear one for her fight with Megan, and loses her title by default.

Wolfe is almost certainly getting signed, and they'll never be able to build her up for a fight with Amanda. If Megan were to win, it's an easier fight to book down the line. Also, Megan winning brings a rematch galore along: Rematch Amanda, rematch Felicia, rematch Holly, heck you could rematch Amanda AND Holly against each other lol. You could also book Anderson vs De Randamie as she wanted, or have Aspen Ladd move up too, etc.

My point: 145 needs Amanda to lose, and having her wear a white shirt is almost a guarantee that she loses.

rizin 24 got its first and probable only womens fight for sept 27 (less than two weeks from today)

Emi Tomimatsu seems like the underdog in every fight she's in. She's so skinny; a natural atom weight. But, she loves metal and is always down for a scrap. She's being booked to lose to the poster girl, but I'd love it if she could get Rena down and strangle her.

Tomimatsu vs RENA is a pretty good fight considering the options. I expect RENA to style, but Tomimatsu can be dangerous with her submissions in flashes. Looking forward to the Rizin version of Tomimatsu's entrance.

ONE's atomweight muay thai champ Allycia Rodrigues is re-matching Dangkongfah for some other promotion's 115lbs title.

Highlights of Marie Ruumet's win over the weekend. Lommanee is by far the biggest name on her record. Hope ONE gets her booked again soon.

I don't read much on weight cutting. But when I do I read your posts. :)
