Official Women's Division Discussion #26

There's a thread in the heavies where she talked about a Cyborg rematch next, (aweful presumptive that she wins over Fee).

Pennington/Aldana is pretty far from a contender fight Pennington almost died vs Nunes.

Glad Amanda plans to continue fighting. Okamoto asked about her statement that she may retire after Holm. Amanda said 'I was really drunk.' Haha!

Yeah, Nunes confirmed the winner of GDR vs. Ladd deserves the next shot at 135. You're right, who knows if or when a Cyborg rematch might happen. We'll see how Feenom does against her.

The thought of Ladd getting wrecked by Nunes almost makes me want to cheer for Ladd to beat GDR.

While I’m not complaining about Istela Nunes getting signed after being shelved by ONE, does strawweight really need another striker with a limited ground game? Seems like that makes up over half of the division.

Seeing more Istela Nunes signed with the UFC posts. When I posted about her signing before I had only seen Brazilian blogs/fans posting the news, so I thought maybe it was several blogs copycatting incorrect info. Seems like it's probably an actual thing though, and now I'm curious how she got out of her ONE contract.

was she shelved or did she choose to not renew her contract with ONE FC?

Hard to say with ONE. She had three fights with them over the course of three years. She might have sat out the remainder, or they might have shelved her, not knowing what to do with her. She couldn’t beat the champion, and she’s not Asian, so they probably didn’t know what to do with her.

Saw this interview with Budd came out today thought it was worth sharing,
Cliffs
Wants to finish Ruben, excited to see how the other 2 FW fights on the card go.
Resigned a 4 fight deal in march, not part of the contract to fight in canada but bellator is looking at a Vancouver card with her.
Is rooting for Fee over Cyborg, would love to see chris sign with bellator and fight her.
Thinks Holm scores the upset.
Would love to rematch nunes now that she's an experienced mma professional.
Dream fight is in Italy.
Would do bellator kickboxing if offered.

The finale of EFCs show "The Fighter season 2" tomorrow, Manon Fiorot (0-1) vs Mellony Geugjes (3-7).
none of these girls are worldbeaters obviously, but Manon is aggressive and good power, think she'll take it.
btw, Manon was allowed to have her coach/boyfriend come visit her and coach her during the latter part of the show. :)

It's only right if Mellony wins the Alpha Can Tournament

Some interesting fights tonight here in Brazil:

At Future FC 6
105lbs - Valesca "Tina" Machado (6-2-0) x Maria Ribeiro (5-1-0) - Tina is considered by some the best atom weight in Brazil and she takes on Maria Ribeiro from CM System who is making her debut at atomweight, she holds a TKO win over Micol Di Segni who is fighting in this season of the contender series.

At Max Fight
125lbs - Daiana Torquato (8-3-0) takes on the veteran Marta Souza (7-11-1). Marta´s record certainly doesnt reflect how good and tough she is, her fight with Priscila Cachoeira back in 2017 was voted fight of the year here in Brazil. Torquato is a team mate of UFC´s Marina Rodriguez and is coming to this fight on a 6 fight win streak including a 4-women GP at Thunder Fight.

So I just saw the UFC rankings got updated trues day. Must have been sometimes in the evening, because they hadn’t changed when I checked.

KGB Lee moves from #10 to #7, with a win over the #11 ranked fighter  I never knew wins over lower ranked opponents could be so valuable. Must be the extra points from being blonde.

Felice Herrig moved up one spot, over Alexa Grasso. Can’t imagine why that changed at all, unless it’s due to whatever weird formula they use when tallying up all the panel members’ scores.

Zhang has begun her “move up the ranks the closer the fight gets.” Moves to #5, Gadelha falls to #6.

Oh, almost forgot bantamweight. Holy and Vieira each move up one, to #1 and #2 respectively, while GDR falls from #1 to #3.

McMann moves up one spot to #10 after withdrawing from her fight Nicco, pushing Aldana down to #11.

In other words, the fuckery took over the rankings this week.

So business as usual, then.

This is mostly fuckery I agree, but Zhang should probably be ranked ahead of Claudia anyways

Not WMMA, but speaking of rankings it's funny seeing Stipe randomly move past Conor and Bobby K in the P4P rankings despite none of them fighting since like October.
