Official Women's Division Discussion #25

An extra hour was given to everyone (a 3 hour window).

Yeah. Another token gesture. Changes in altitude, pressure, temperature and humidity all affect a weight cut during the final days. One of the reasons why people at smaller orgs (including Invicta) miss weight a lot. They travel during their cut not being able to afford to house their team for as long as someone getting better pay.

Flying last minute is particularly bad, as you bloat on the damn plane. Even a tiny woman can gain a kilo.

Another amateur fight I forgot to mention the other day.

Claire Guthrie (6-1) recently moved out to Denver to train at Elevation Fight Team. She had previously been training at Bulldog Fight Team in Osceola, Indiana under the tutelage of UFC veteran Todd Brown. She's on a 5 fight win streak against solid competition. This will be her Flyweight debut after spending her early career at Featherweight and Bantamweight. She's been working hard to be at a better weight for her height. She's been successful against bigger competition so she should be dominant at Flyweight so long as she's not too drained. She fights Josee Storts on January 26th. Storts is 3-0 and was seen fighting for LFA last August. She trains at Springfield Fight Club with Zak Cummings and Miranda Maverick. This will also be her Flyweight debut after going 3-0 at Bantamweight. This will be the first time either of these women will have fought for a title. Both women have never been better than they are right now. Both plan on going pro after this fight so be on the lookout for them in 2019.

If this is your commentary/summary (meaning: your original words) you do a lot better than some of these shitty-ass MMA sites.

This fight won't happen, so what's point of this?
Jedrzejczyk will struggle with fighter mixing strking and takedowns. How much she will struggle will depend on physical strength of her oponnent (something Gadelha was not able to do, and Shevchenko was able)
Can Suarez mix things? What about her striking? How she will react, when she will be punched in her face? So many questions, so few answers. Cooper, Grasso, Esparza is not some great resume also. She was eager to wrestle to Esparza (who is small strawweight) and was not able to finish her while completly dominating ( stoppage was kinda weird).
Khabib is basicly fighter who missed weight few times, especially against wrestlers, his main attribute is physical strength, what exactly is exciting about him? His best win right now is former featherweight who is small lightweight (who was also large featherweight), when Khabib is former welterweight. I understand people don't like to listen about weight cutting and weight classes, but there's nothing special about Khabib as fighter, his main skill is weight cutting (if you can say about it fighter who missed weight few times).
Everything under heavweight is just participation award and race who will exploit system of weight classes as much as he can, you can see it over and over again. Guys from lightweight division looking like slender heavyweights so i can take them seriously and without grain of salt.
So what exactly is exciting and good about fighters, when their main attribute is physical strength and once they will face physically stronger oponnent they will fail?Because it is what will happen to Khabib or Suarez when they.
And I can say it same about Anrade who is no 1 wsw. She is former wbw overpowering wsw's. Yeah she kinda small, but won't be surprised if she is 140 lbs during fight.
I understand: mma took weight classes from other combat sport, but whole culture around is more wrestlng-orientated than boxing-orientated, and we know how exciting wrestling is as sport?

???
I said what I said. I don't understand "hype" around wrestlers-like fighters in mma. You can watch WWE for entertaining wrestling, not mma, when some fighters tend to hug oponnents whole damn fight, mostly because they are physically stronger.
This is entertainment. Book Jedrzejczyk vs winner of Calderwood/Lipski and fans will be happy. Jedrzejczyk is not in title contention in both division right now and already said she is staying as 125 lbs and taking long break.
If Namajunas will leave house and get W against Andrade, logical title eliminator is Ansaroff/Suarez. It's so simple, yet people try to hype some weird matchups, boring and predictable fights.
Just wait for shitshow called Cyborg/Nunes, next fight for the fans...

Cyborg via the Shevchenko effect. ATT is winless against fighters who train with Valentina.

Megan over Cat. Watched Zingano's last couple fights and her durability is looking shaky. With the way she tends to block with her face, I think she's going to walk into something and get finished.

This doesn't make any sense even as mma math, sample size of 2 fights? Not to mention that Cyborg invited Shev for PR photoshoot rather than training.

Name one good fighter finished by Megan? Zingano maybe looks bad lately, but she never lose her heart and gives up in a fight. Cat is going to ragdoll Megan easily.

I'm not being entirely serious.

Thing with Cat though, she looked hurt and had that deer in the headlights look at times against Reneau, and Marion is hardly a heavy hitter. That is concerning to say the least, given her known history of head injury thanks to the beating that Nunes dished out on her. We can't question Zingano's heart & will but that only goes so far given the rest of her limitations. Pre-Nunes, I'd take Cat no question, but we need to accept that her best days are far behind her. I'd be happy to be surprised, but with her questionable fight smarts and reduced durability there's not too many good matchups for her these days.

The only reason Cat will see any success going forward is with her wrestling, which is quite effective, relative to her division. I don’t see any reason why she can’t beat Megan the way Holm did, while looking more impressive.

At the same time though, Megan is very athletic, and very big relative to virtually anyone she’ll be fighting. In spite of all her liabilities (and there’s lots) Megan isnt competing in deep divisions, and therefore she is a dangerous fighter on the feet.. just based on size and natural ability alone. Just based on effectiveness, not skill, I cant count her out for sure.

I bet on Cat and that the fight ends in the distance, so that if Cat finishes Meegan (I think she will work her on the mat easily) I get a nice amount, if Meegan knocks the Cat out I still make a little (plus I will notify PETA), if Cat wins a dec I lose a negligable amount, if Anderson wins a dec I lose (I think it's KO or bust for Meeg).

I'm hoping Cat works Meegan easily on the ground but can easily see her getting KO'd too, she's the leading test study for brain trauma in WMMA and has shit defence and fight IQ (also related to the brain trauma IMO). If you can say something about Meeg it's that she does hit hard, & even made the super-tough Holly 'Holms' Holm not want to trade with her any more.

Honestly I kinda can't stand Megan, she has way too high opinion of herself and has been promoted out of her depth just because a lot of guys have an Amazon fetish. Talent wise, she should be in Invicta losing to Felicia Spencer and preparing for the fight of her life vs Helena Kolesnyk. I guess at least she's stopped talking about beating up Cyborg (lol). Will be interesting what people start saying when she loses this one too.

As for Cyborg, I hope Nunes wins, and neither of them is the GOAT to me (though Nunes is certainly deserving a lot of hespect lately ;) )

I want to see Cat win just because I like her. She has superior grappling, but Megan has the obvious size and strength advantage, so who knows? Cat may have problems with her reach, and needs to get inside and/or get the fight to the ground as quickly as possible.

I am rooting for Amanda for just about every reason possible. I still think Cyborg takes it, she just has to be patient.

I'm very much rooting for Cyborg.
Will feel a little bit sad for Amanda when she loses tho.

With Cat vs Megan I'm somewhat undecided.
On the one hand I'd prefer Cat to win. Partly out of pity and partly because I don't really like Megan Anderson.
But on the other hand I think a Megan victory would probably be better "for the division".

I'm a bit undecided between Cat and Megan, neither will have a chance against Cyborg in a fight I am not going to watch so the actual result won't really matter to me, I wish JBG's blessings on this and that's all.

And as implied above, not watching Cyborg but if Nunes somehow miraclously could manage to win, I would smile while reading the results.

i think zingano will wrestlefuck megan to a win........or get knocked out in the first minute
really, really , REALLY hope cyborg gets battered
