- Daiana Torquato defeats Joice Mara by unanimous decision in 3R
Daiana Torquato is crowned the inaugural womens flyweight Champion
A few interesting things to note about the folks fighting this event:
- Daiana has recently joined team Thai Brasil (she was originally in Chute Boxe), in 4 months since joining Thai Brasil she has gone from 4-3-0 to 7-3-0 plus the she is now holds the belt for one of the most important organizations in Brazil. The team has just started to gain some international attention with their first UFC fighter, Marina Rodriguez.
- Joice Mara is also another fighter that recently moved teams. Moving from her home town in Manaus (al the way up in the north of Brazil) down to Rio de Janeiro to train at PRVT. She was invited after losing a hard fought decision to Invicta veteran Jessica Delboni. Since the move early this year she is 3-3-0 but two of the losses were in the finals of tournaments. Her record now is 8-5-0, it´s not that impressive but when you remember the girl just turned 20 you can definetly see she could develop into a strong prospect in the near future.
- Aline Sattelmayer is unfortunetly back to being a 50/50 fighter but she is still one of the best fighters at straw-weight in Brazil. Her record alone really doesnt do her justice. She fought a who is who of Brazilian wmma, losing decisions to WeiLi Zhang, Virna Jandiroba, Emi Fujino, Amanda Ribas, Herica Tiburcio. And being finished in her early days by Livia Renata Souza and Kalindra Farias. With wins over Bo Meng (only one to beat Weili Zhang) and Poliana Viana being her biggest wins. I believe that her taking weili Zhang and Virna Jandiroba to decisions speaks pretty highly of her toughness.
- Vanessa Barbosa had a decent run in 2011-2012 fighting for jungle fights´s all female promotion (Pink Fight) beating a chute boxe girl twice. But after a long layoff she just wasnt able to hang in there with the much younger, yet more experienced, Joice Mara.
Thunder Fight is working on new tournaments to crown female champions at atom-weight and bantamweight next year. Atom Weight will most likely be the next one.
