Official Women's Division Discussion #25

People in the Heavies are scum.

"Rachel was naked thus she must have been cheating on him."

She could have gotten out the shower when he began beating her.

Probably because they can only imagine a reason for a woman to be naked. And they certainly cannot imagine one sticking with them for any length of time. I mean, given my age I am fairly certain I have had more problems with women than most of them based on the law of averages alone, yet I do not act like that.

Worthless little shits.

The amount of bending backwards and victim blaming to defend a domestic abuser makes me retch. I swear the guy could've decapitated Rachel and the heavies still could've spun it so that she deserved it.

WMMA fight of the year: Are there any contenders after Aldana - Pudilova?

We all immediately said FOY on that one and I still agree. As far as runner - ups go I enjoyed
Rose - JJ 2
Val - JJ (dominating performance from Val & good heart from JJ)
Grusander - Frey 2
Ilima-Lei MacFarlane - Valerie Letourneau (especially the walkout & Hawaii atmosphere)
Waterson - Casey
Ladd - Evinger (for such a dominating performance)
Some Rizin fights I enjoyed immensely. Cant remember specific ones. Asakura stands out in my mind

Rose vs JJ 2 is wmma fight of the year for me, back & forth technical fight. The belt was on the line, and it had a revenge story angle.

Aldana vs Pudilova is kinda of a sloppy fight.

Final results for Thunder Fight 7 wmma bouts:

- Joice Mara defeated Vanessa Barbosa by TKO on R1
- Daiana Torquato defeated Aline Sattlelmeyer by UD in 2R

- Daiana Torquato defeats Joice Mara by unanimous decision in 3R

Daiana Torquato is crowned the inaugural womens flyweight Champion

A few interesting things to note about the folks fighting this event:

- Daiana has recently joined team Thai Brasil (she was originally in Chute Boxe), in 4 months since joining Thai Brasil she has gone from 4-3-0 to 7-3-0 plus the she is now holds the belt for one of the most important organizations in Brazil. The team has just started to gain some international attention with their first UFC fighter, Marina Rodriguez.

- Joice Mara is also another fighter that recently moved teams. Moving from her home town in Manaus (al the way up in the north of Brazil) down to Rio de Janeiro to train at PRVT. She was invited after losing a hard fought decision to Invicta veteran Jessica Delboni. Since the move early this year she is 3-3-0 but two of the losses were in the finals of tournaments. Her record now is 8-5-0, it´s not that impressive but when you remember the girl just turned 20 you can definetly see she could develop into a strong prospect in the near future.

- Aline Sattelmayer is unfortunetly back to being a 50/50 fighter but she is still one of the best fighters at straw-weight in Brazil. Her record alone really doesnt do her justice. She fought a who is who of Brazilian wmma, losing decisions to WeiLi Zhang, Virna Jandiroba, Emi Fujino, Amanda Ribas, Herica Tiburcio. And being finished in her early days by Livia Renata Souza and Kalindra Farias. With wins over Bo Meng (only one to beat Weili Zhang) and Poliana Viana being her biggest wins. I believe that her taking weili Zhang and Virna Jandiroba to decisions speaks pretty highly of her toughness.

- Vanessa Barbosa had a decent run in 2011-2012 fighting for jungle fights´s all female promotion (Pink Fight) beating a chute boxe girl twice. But after a long layoff she just wasnt able to hang in there with the much younger, yet more experienced, Joice Mara.

Thunder Fight is working on new tournaments to crown female champions at atom-weight and bantamweight next year. Atom Weight will most likely be the next one.

Daiana should have taken the teddy bear and the belt after defeating Joice.

Val/JJ was the most technical, but was a bit one-sided for me.
Grusander Frey 2 was just not impressive to me, and I like both of them.
Letourneau is a shell of her former self. The extensive weight cuts and getting the shit beat out of her have taken years off her life and an order of magnitude off of her skill.

I also like Rose JJ 2, and had forgotten about this one. I could see it getting the nod. More technical than A vs P and non-stop action.

Yeah I can see your viewpoint on all of these. A v P wins for me on sheer heart & excitement. Rose v JJ 2 for quality & what was at stake.

I would be fine for either for roughly the same reasons. Val/JJ was the most technical, but for me FOTY is a faster-paced fight. JJ has had some damn great fights, including her fight vs. Jessica and her 2nd against Claudia.

A couple of quick Items
The women's fight of the year should be Spencer vs Sorenson from Invicta
FC 32 because Felicia Spencer had to bring her lunch pale with her do to
that fight reaching championship rounds and it was close to that point.

With it being obvious that Bantamweight & Featherweight have no help with
UFC & Invicta do to lack of new names and lack of fighters in general both
are going to have to build 115 & 125 and 105 in the case of Invicta to prosper
in the new year until 135 & 145 have a renaissance in the next few years if the
amateur ranks world wide are reliable enough to produce said fighters.

Domination is like a fight that goes long and is very one sided? Or could be someone being taken out quickly and in brutal fashion, like Andrade x Karolina ?

Oh good point. Each one needs a separate category. Add any that you like.

Domination - fight that goes long and is very one-sided
Val over JJ
Val over Cachoeira - that was cold-blooded

Domination - taken out quickly and in brutal fashion
Andrade - Karolina. Good one!
Ladd over Evinger
The fight on youtube that was one kick and done

Happy holidays to you and your loved ones.

Too busy to add anything, wife is sick and I am cooking right now. 1st impression opinions below.

Not sure what you mean by performance, but will agree to piss off the Shevchenko haters.

Comeback fighter of the year
Jessica Eye. After 4 straight losses, in 2018 she had 3 wins in a row. Over Farie, J-R Clark and Chookagian.

Will agree for the same reason.

Prospect of the year
Ladd

Most excited to see in 2019
Lipski
Because even though she does not have the best technique, I want to see how she does against better competition.

I guess I have to say this one, but really I would title it mis-match of the year.

Ladd over Evinger
Because I do not like Evinger and it was nice to see her last three rounds against Cyborg and not even one against Ladd.

Domination of the year: Robertson versus Meatball Molly, this was great comedy, Molly's pre-fight over-confidence and the ridiculous walkout culminating in being put to sleep by the shy Canadian, rewatched this a few times.

Performance of the year: Nunes against Cyborg, here's hoping.

Comeback of the year: Ok not exactly what you meant but Reneau against McCann

Best Personality: Not sure what this means, I'll say Mallory Martin for her no-one can save you meme.

Intriguing Prospect: Dern, she'll either be a sky rocket or a damp squid.

Random Surprise: Seeing old footage of Lucie Pudilova in a beauty contest.

Fighter of the year: The winner of 232

Prospect of the year: Zhang

Excited to see: Atomweight

Best place for banter: The laughably misnamed Heavies.
