Official Women's Division Discussion #25

What was going on when the referee put his hand on Dyshekova's head at 3:30?

I'm sure I've noticed that kind of thing before in Russian fights, thought at first it was a warning about back of the head but then he seemed to push her into a position to be more open to the ground and pound.

Thinking long-term, it's for the best to have Invicta/UFC NOT signing these Eastern European prospects. With so many of them being talented and clearly investing time in MMA, their regional scene soon enough will be a hotbed of talent when it comes to WMMA, so UFC should give it time and let the scene develop itself in a way that if you take one or two, won't hurt too much and new ones will keep their scene going.

Great, as long as they actually book them on cards. Obviously some locations are culturally off-limits but no point having a roster and not using them.

From post Soviet regions - Zaira Dyshekova, Liana Jojua are must have
Veronika Rodova is fighting Marta Waliczek really soon, and the winner of that fight is certainly going to be someone to watch as well.

Am I the only one noticing that PFL and Combate also seem to have uniforms? How come there are not nearly the amount of backlash as with he UFC. This is a serious question. If there is something I am missing please drop some knowledge on me.

Because no one watches those leagues compared to the UFC?
Seems like an obvious answer. Is it a surprise there are not as many threads about how Ladies Fight Night (for instance) uses uniforms, as there were about UFC doing it?
Anyway, some ppl who do watch smaller orgs are complaining about the spread of uniforms.
(I mean, the LFN uniforms are kinda cool, but i'm glad there are still orgs like Invicta that allow fighters to actually express themselves... it's sad that them, Bellator and RIZIN are starting to seem like a minority in that respect).

Also because we've been worn down by the UFC uniforms (ppl don't even complain much about those anymore, not because they like them, but because the discussion happened already). It's the slippery slope. Next thing they'll be taking fighter's souls and we won't even care! The machine has broken us! :(

It's happening because of that 'follow the leader' heard mentality, UFC does something so other orgs copy (whether it's actually a good idea or not). So we can blame all of the creeping uniformization of MMA on the UFC and Reebok after all. UFC EVIL!!!!!!!! Rebook sucks!!!!!

I agree. They seem invested. Already crowned a bantamweight champion and would've crowned a flyweight if wasn't for Borisova getting injured. Featherweight next.

At least, FNG is giving them permission to fight in other regional Russian promotions too, Aygul Khabirova fought Liliya Shakirova in the last Samara MMA event for example, but they're still signed to FNG.

Just taIked to Shannon about the December card among other things. will have an article posted tomorrow but a few things I didn't put in it that will clear up some things....

The reason Kaufman doesn't have a match is because they simply don't have an opponent qualified to face her yet. Most of the talent at 135 is still developing and Shannon doesn't want to feed her someone who isn't ready.

Invicta boxing is still a go but got put on the side due to the push to get the MMA cards set for the next few months. she has a model in place, and will not be doing mixed boxing/kickboxing cards.

She expects t have more cards next year (by the sounds of it monthly).

There is a lot of build going into the next few cards in terms of video features. Ashley Cummins, Danielle Taylor and Monserrat Ruiz pieces are currently being shot by Cynthia Vance, while a Mizuki piece is set to be shot in the coming week.

The Erin Blanchfield piece is already out

I don’t suppose the topic of having an event east of the Mighty Mississippi came up?

Cejudo better start keeping his hands off dem Lobo wimminz or I sense a Sherdog hate posse forming to use him for a midget-tossing contest

Bad enough he was around Alexa, I see one picture of him with Aldana, I’ll turn that midget into a dardo del césped. :meow:

Was I seeing things or were women's Bantamweights & Featherweights not
as big or heavy a decade ago as they are now.

I don't know about Combate, but in PFL they can have 2 sponsors, better than zero..
Most of the fighters had sponsors from what i can remember.

Do you think Thoroughbred Wrestling Academy and American Top Team actually paid these guys money the same way a vape company or Condom Depot or Dynamic Fasteners did? That's my point, most of the "sponsors" on these guys shorts were just gyms they are affiliated with, not paying customers.

I want average fighters paid more & treated better. They'll only achieve that through collective bargaining. Hoping some day a group of fighters form a unionized league. Like United Artists got together to form its own studio.

At the same time I prefer that fight kits represent the league or team or whatever. Don't need to see supplement adverts on their ass. Politicians should be forced to wear outfits listing all their sponsors.

No, you are quite correct. As WMMA advances and matures, the women are not only seeking more competitive advantages, but are better able to achieve them. When your average woman's fight was a short notice one-off to fill a card that had people drop, now, with real money on the table, women are able to eat and train just like the men. Plus they have the advantage of learning from the men's mistakes - or at least they should take advantage of this.

In Japan S&C training for female fighters is finally beginning to be taken seriously. The gender bias there hurts female fighters.

Tapology, YouTube, Google translate .... never been easier to keep track. I'd love to see Dyshekova get a chance on the international scene, still only 22, a Circassian ....Sherdog lists her as 5'5" which is clearly wrong, tapology has 5'11" . Here's the Kunitskaya fight.

That arm bar was slicker than snot on a brass door knob.

Although Invicta 33 won't be counterprogrammed with the UFC, Bellator will be. Same start time

The difference between someone who is good and someone who's great. As much as I dislike Cyborg, I still acknowledge that she's a good fighter with solid technique. But there's still a big gap between good and great. Cyborg side by side with Valentina looks like an amateur. Her knees go wide to the outside instead of tight to the centre line and her kicks go wider as well. Also note the upper body control & posture, Cyborg gets crunched over & off balance on half of her kicks whereas Valentina always keeps perfect form & balance.

Then there's the back elbows. Cyborg can't get her upper body around, nor does she get her head around to spot the target. If you watch the footwork, Valentina pivots her feet all the way around so the heels are facing the target whereas Cyborg stops about 30-45° short. That's why Valentina can a)get full rotation to actually land the elbow, and b)get her head around to spot the target and Cyborg can't. There's a big difference in form & control.

UFC on Fox main cards always start at 8 pm ET, same exact time Invicta will likely start on Fight Pass. So there will be considerable overlap.

Overlap Overshmap. Even a shitty Invicta card is better then all but 2% of UFC cards. This one isn't even a contest.

It's probally head to head with an ALF rerun somewhere too... and as funny as that weird lookin cat-eating motherfucker is...... Its still not a contest.

I enjoy Invicta and watch every card, but I can't agree with that. Most Invicta viewers are surely UFC viewers too so the overlap will hurt live viewership, of that there is no doubt.
