Official Women's Division Discussion #25

no karina rodriguez? booooooooooo
She’ll probably be booked for t he next event, and I’ll be unable to go. And Aldanawill be in her corner. Which means Fate will be screwing me over. As per usual. If Fate is really screwing with me, both Aldana and Grasso will attend.

She is ready and wants to fight in december tho

I was wondering.. is there any type of rule that, ehm.. wouldn't allow a fighter to fight "stinking"?
Seems like that was a clever move of Grusander..

Not to be a dick... but she looked like she stunk... haha.

Alright... maybe to be a dick.

Maybe someone can explain the match making process with Invicta since
girls that want fights can't get them but yet Jinh Yu Frey can effectively play
match maker and Shannon Knapp listens to her.

Every promotion has their favorites. In the words of Max Holloway. It is what it is.

Read her post again. She had the option of either rematching Grusander in December, or sitting out for close to a year while waiting on a new contender. She chose to go with the rematch. They gace her two options, and she picked one.

It's the same reason she fought in Road FC. Invicta had already decided she'd be fighting for the title, but they didn't have a contender lined up yet. So she could have waited, or looked for fights elsewhere. She chose the latter option.

Wow, Jacobson vs Murata is an A-level matchup

Jacobson's got this one, I think, but it should be a good match-up.

WMMA GOAT? It's a short list of names,IMO. Obviously, women like Howe, Fuji, and Rousey were way ahead of their competition; the sport had to catch up to them in a sense. I'd probably go with Rousey just because her wins were so dominant and no one did more to elevate the sport for women. I just can't put Cyborg in that list because she beat up lots of smaller women with pure brute strength and mass. That's my two yen.

Ah no, by 'R-word' I meant...

Not sure if anyone noticed but InvictaFC 33 is the same night as UFC on Fox. There will be at least some overlap as I am hearing.

Also Sarah Kaufman not too happy

I would put Megumi as best p4p. The argument I get from most people is "she would be smoked by today's talent". My argument back is that at that time, fighters were on the same level of in terms of training and you got to take it in consideration that the sport evolves. Like how Michael Jordan is considered the GOAT while today's NBA would probably be tougher for him.

Also take in consider the streak of 22-0 and her losses have been close decision losses. In any era this is tough to do, even if some competition were not on her skill level.

That being said Cyborg I would put as 2 since a lot of her opponents were smaller.

She's definitely more of a pioneer though, not really a name that should be in the GOAT conversation in my opinion. Pretty much like Royce, Shamrock, Rickson & Bas Rutten. Still very important for WMMA history (specially in US), of course, by paving the way.

Since the thread of the day is "MMA Trades", how about the idea of UFC trying to trade Cyborg & Invicta's 145 division (Pam, Spencer, Kolesnyk, D. Santos etc) for Bellator's Macfarlane + 125 division (Letorneau, Velasquez, Lara, Arteaga etc) ?
Maybe Cyborg herself would be enough, tbh.
After the Nunes fight, and the very likely Cat Zingano win over Megan, there will be no one to Cyborg fight..

Everyone gains from it. Budd vs. Cyborg should be good.

The Bellator 213 card from Hawaii headlined by Ilima-Lei Macfarlane defending her flyweight belt vs Valerie Letourneau will also likely overlap with these other two cards. Sucks to have three good cards on at the same time.
