Official Women's Division Discussion #25

If Shevchenko wins it'll probably be a boring 5 round display of play-it-safe points striking anyway.

Why not book Shevchenko vs Anjela Pink instead? That fight would bring action with a capital A (that's 'Action', in case you wondered) and a guaranteed highlight reel finish whoever the winner turned out to be.
People like action and they like highlight reel finishes even more. IMO my idea is perfect, don't know why the UFC didn't think of it.

That's a great idea, worked the first time with Priscila, so why not do it again.

Tonya looks really old in this. I might not have noticed the grey hair before.

Strawweight: MIZUKI (12-5) vs. Viviane Pereira (13-2)
Atomweight: Ashley Cummins (6-4) vs. Jessica Delboni (7-0)
Featherweight: Kaitlin Young (8-9-1) vs. Zarah Fairn Dos Santos (6-2)
Bantamweight: Alexa Conners (5-2) vs. Julia Avila (5-1)
Flyweight: Erin Blanchfield (2-0) vs. Kay Hansen (3-1)
Flyweight: Liz Tracy (5-2) vs. Stephanie Geltmacher (3-0)
Strawweight: Isis Verbeek (0-0) vs. TBA

Conners vs Avila will be a banger. Pulling for Blanchfield.

Pink has been involved in quick exciting KO's like the one below. She's arguably the most consistent wmma fighter in North America. According to Tapology she suffered a non-mma loss so her bio should mention she's 'transitioning from another sport'. There's built-in controversy because Super Fight League lists her as having a win. The intro practically writes itself. 'And now ... fighting out of Spokane, Washington ... with a PERFECT mma record of 0-6 ...'

Speaking of Asha Roka - she has been training in Japan and has been lobbying for a fight.

According to my stats after this weekend we should be three states away from having all 50 have female division MMA bouts (pro and ammy). Hawaii (which will have Bellator in December), New Hampshire, and Vermont.

I wonder if Chookagian is mailing Eubanks boxes of snacks to help her [not] make weight.

It didn't start with Priscilla, Jenifer Maia also said that she was asked to fight Valentina on 1 month notice and refused, because it's not enough to prepare, it was before first Maia's fight in the UFC, when Maia was Invicta champ coming to UFC. So it's actually third time (we know about it) this year and only Priscilla accepted (how surprsing), and I said on ufc forum: they tried to strongarm JJ 1 week after they agreed that JJ/Shevchenko will take place in Toronto, so it makes whole situation even more obvious...we don't even know how many fighters refused to accept 1 month, 2 weeks notice fights vs Valentina.

Right now only Priscilla and Eubanks did it and both are novice fighters without big names. I wonder if Shevchenko signed contract for UFC 231, right now seriously I think something is fishy about her and she is not willing to fight high profile fighter without some advantage: short camp, short notice, coming from loss (just like Holly). But I'm kinda antifan at this point.

Additionaly its crazy to make Eubanks/Shevchenko as main event of high profile card. MSG is very expensive arena, how do you imagine both figthers Eubanks and Shevchenko trying to sell tickets in NY? Hey you have choice: New York Knicks or Eubanks/Shevchenko.... How much pressure will be on both fighters when they won't be able to sell tickets. And if they want to make Shevchenko star how 50-100 k ppv will help with it? This whole situation is crazy and is huge blow for UFC brand. Also I kinda feel like Joanna wanted to avoid backlash from fans.

People were upset because they changed very good fight for fight nobody cares. But again imagine anounncing JJ/Shev as main event of MSG...ye maybe reaction would be not that bad, but I can see many people unhappy about it.

You know I accented I'm anitfan at this point, this UFC 230 already done more harm than good for her career, so I'm perfectly fine. Not many people will treat seriously 125 lbs division.
