Official Women's Division Discussion #25

Meatball has an opponent now.

Tyrell fighting up a weight class. Tough fight for her. I posted something from her recently where she mentioned no liking having to cut so much to get to 115lbs. Tough fight for her against Meatball at flyweight.

meatball is running out of opponents with similar fight experience, she is going to have to travel more to get matches, perhaps some eastern european fights .
obviously id like to see her fight in the US as well

Not trying to start shit by any means, but why there aren't more WMMA fighters coming of England? Outside Russia it's probably the top country in MMA but i don't see many women going far, any thoughts why? I think UFC never had a british girl, right?

The Ultimate Fighter season 23 had:

Helen Harper
Lanchana Green
Kate Jackson

~
And as Larisa pointed out, there was Rosi Sexton who fought at bantamweight in the UFC (but she was small for the division, and would've more properly have been a flyweight but there was no flyweight division at the time).

~
Also, as Scotland is located on the island named Britain, the Scottish fighter Jo Jo Calderwood is also British.

Agreed. She is getting up there in experience and she is doing well. Time to get her more exposure outside of the UK. I had been hoping she would have another shot in Brazil, it is not like Melo finished her.

kate jackson would give her a fight, rosi sexton is retired, and green and harper are too inexperienced.
dunno whats up with jojo, maybe shes retired.

I just remembered that its now been a few weeks since Andrea Lee got her 1st USADA visit. We have not heard of any failures so that means she had to pass it right? I don't know why but I was real nervous about her 1st test. I would hate for her to turn into these fighters who been failing their very 1st test and get suspended for 2 years before even making their debut.

How does Randa still make 115 with those cans? She's taking a chance with those things in Reebok gear.

I thought that Nevada had problems with judges but I'm guessing
that is also the case in North Carolina with 2 out of 3 the fights
going to winners that were either not active enough or didn't land
very many strikes accurately.

I thought Kim won her fight, however I think Romero Borella got robbed

Here is Bloodyelbow's take on this so far. Other questionable calls tonight, later on in the event.

Questionable scorecards and fights that qualify as cures for insomnia defined the early contests for the UFC’s showing in Charlotte. The front runner for Robbery of the Year for 2018 was established as Ji Yeon Kim somehow convinced the judges she beat Justine Kish despite being outlanded by Kish in every round, usually by a significant margin. That was followed by a pair of women’s contests lacking in drama and action, leaving viewers wanting.

If only it was 2 29-28s instead of a 30-27 people wouldn't question the decision much.

I have seen a number of people question the decision itself. The 30-27 brings more concerns to the table however.

A decent number of people don't care as they feel Kish won a fight or two herself by questionable decisions to robbery from judges however.

I missed the first half of Kish vs. Kim, but if it was anything like the 2nd half that 30-27 judge was out to lunch. From what I saw Kish was comfortably winning the 2nd and doing well in the 3rd until the last couple minutes. I can see an argument for giving Kim the 3rd based on landing better punches, but it's still a close round.

Markos vs. Lima was meh. Not sure why Randa is now using a wrestling stance that makes it really hard for her to both strike and defend against strikes, especially when she's fighting someone who isn't going to wrestle her like Carla did. She pulled off the win, but that stance & footwork is going to get her killed against better fighters.

Kaitlyn vs. Mara was just why? Why do you do that? Why do you both keep doing the same shit that don't work? Thought Mara won the decision 29-28, figured Kaitlyn stole the 3rd with more activity and actually landing a bit more towards the end. Overall, just a frustrating fight to watch.

In the Kish vs. Kim fight the first was very much like the second round.

I'm convinced Chookagian and Taylor are the same fighter.
I don't see it. I mean, sure, they both try to be out fighters, but Taylor tries too much to rely on landing one big shot, while Chookagian is a Holm-esque volume striker. Unlike Taylor, Chookagian's coaches will never have to ask her to let her hands go. The problem is getting them to land.

She needs to learn how to use her reach advantage. That fight was pretty awful.

Other fight results.

1-27 SCL Denver, Colorado
Jennah MaCallister def. Brittany Boone by TKO in rd 2 (115)
Shannon Sinn def. Heather Bassett by TKO in rd 1 (125)
