No Spoilers Official Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice Discussion

It's all about the atmosphere for me. I don't wanna play a clone. Does that make sense? It's why I stopped playing black ops. They copied Titan Falls formula for character moving.

Does this game have pvp?
Fucking lol.

If anything Nioh is a souls clone. And doesnt have 1/10th of the atmosphere of any souls game for the little of it that Ive played.

Couple of quick impressions, I only played for a couple of hours last night. The combat is the most satisfying I’ve experienced in a From game. There’s quite a bit of depth that might not be as transparent at first. I’ve definitely got a lot to learn, especially when dealing with multiple enemies.

I replayed one small area a few times that had several different enemy varieties and each time was completely different due to the freedom and level layout.

Very impressed so far. I can’t wait to see what the bosses have in store.

No PVP. The setting is really the only thing that looks like Nioh to me. I think that reviewer just generalized to much. The combat, movement, and overall gameplay are just way different.

I loved the story to Nioh and just the whole feudal feel. I'm just looking for something that makes this game jump out to me. But lol I'm more than likely gonna go out and get it today

So the combat feels more like a souls spin off instead of Nioh?

I just checked Steam again and suddenly it unlocks in two hours instead of 17. They obviously had no clue until like 10 minutes ago, lol.

Man fuck steam. I would have completely changed my night if I knew when it was coming out.

I can't say for sure I haven't played it yet but this is just based off videos. With the grappling hook, parrying system, and stealth. I just don't see how Nioh would compare especially if you didn't use a single sword in Nioh which I used dual Katanas.

As for the Nioh comparison, on a shallow level they might appear similar but once you start digging into the combat mechanics more they differentiate quite a bit. The combat in this is nothing like a Souls game. It’s much, much faster paced and there is a ton that some of the more difficult enemies can throw at you that make you need to utilize all of your abilities.

The verticality of the combat adds a completely new dynamic.

There’s also the prosthetic which I haven’t messed with much but will seemingly add a lot of variety.

Sold. Can you lay down a summon sign in this game?

I also saw a comment earlier about hack and slash. Yeah, you’re not gonna want to do that lol.

You have to be able to parry imo. There are ways you can down opponents without it but it’s pretty core in dealing with them efficiently.

How does health regen work? Do you get full health after a certain amount of time or through loot/killing

How hard\easy is it so far compared to other souls games?

I like the increased pace. I enjoy the Souls games fine, but I've always preferred a bit more speed to character action games. I'm trying to go through DMC 3-5 on multiple difficulties all with a focus on Royal Guard, so when I'm finally done with that it should serve as a nice lead in to this game because of the focus on parrying.

Maybe I'll get lucky, and it'll have a mild discount during the Steam Summer Sale (I'll pick it up by then even if it doesn't).

I’ve only seen it handled via healing items/resting. That aspect is similar to the other games.

Tbh I was tired last night and could feel I wasn’t paying as much attention as I should have. My first area with a lot of enemies was kicking my ass at first.

It’s not a fair comparison though because I have so much experience with Souls and this is nothing like it.

Having to learn a new combat system is making it harder for me than say DS3 was.

Gonna spoiler because I’m not sure how much people watched of some of the early game footage. But in regards to learning the combat:

There’s an NPC you can train with in the central hub. He has specific methods you can practice on him and it’s very useful.

I’d recommend making good use of it.

Hard to say. Once you played a few soulslike games you've already gotten so much better that it's impossible to gauge the difficulty of any follow ups. I'd imagine that it's a little bit easier for people who played a lot of hard games before and super hard for people who haven't
