No Spoilers Official Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice Discussion

There are actually polls on this. I can't remember the exact numbers, but something like only 30% of gamers actually play games to their completion.

Yea now that you mention it I do remember reading about this (I think on this forum actually) I wasn't to surprised by the #'s once I thought of all the gamers I know. Most of them just don't finish games. One of the guys at my company I was just telling him how I always see him buy games play them for a few hours and that's it. He actually finished the new DMC game and I was surprised.

Yeah, I try to finish games now to get what I paid for, but years ago, I would hop between five or six at a time and only finish the ones that really hooked me, like MGS or God Of War. RPG's are a different beat altogether. I damn near always end up putting them aside after about 40-60 hours, then try to go back months later, but feel lost and start over again, and then the cycle repeats itself. It took me like 3 years to actually finish "Fallout 3".

Right now I'm about 90 or so hours into "The Witcher 3", and I'm now powering through it just to finish the campaign, because I'm getting that urge to set it aside for something else, because no matter how great a game is, they can burn you out and you want a change of pace. I figure I'll beat the campaign, and come back to do the DLC in while. I might grab this game, depending on how it's received. I like the DS games, but I would like to see From Software expand their horizons a bit, and mess with formula a bit more. This game looks like it's gonna do just that

Yea when I was younger I don't think I ever beat a game. Around 14 I started beating pretty much everything I played. RPGs or any story driven game is really easy for me to beat because wanting to see what happens in the story motivates me more than anything. Games that rely on gameplay for entertainment with little to no story tend to be the ones I end up dropping and never finishing.

The fallout games have been hell for me. I never beat Fallout 3 or NV I got tired of the gameplay before I could beat either of them. So when I get FO4 I tell myself no matter what I'm beating this one. I play it and eventually start to get that urge to set it aside. I immediately start powering through the main story. Then the game bugs out on me and I can't talk to the person I need to in order to continue the story. Never got it fixed I was so pissed.

Planning on playing the Witcher but you're not finished after 90 hours? How big is the game and can you compare it to other RPGs, good and bad ones lol.

I get you but for me, my favourite games are gameplay > story. A game needs an exceptional story to even be mentioned in the upper echelon.

I can play RE4, Bloodborne, BOTW etc just for the gameplay alone.

Say what you will about the RE games but the gameplay is nearly always great (few exceptions).

If you do everything in the campaign, including the Gwent side quests, Races, Treasure hunts, Witcher Contracts, and exploring all the maps, I'd imagine you're looking at no less than 135-140 hours. I've skipped out on Gwent(which could really add up some hours), most of Treasure hunts, and have no intention of exploring all the question marks on the map. I figure that's how most will play it(other than skipping Gwent), and I think I'll top out at around 100 hours. And that's without the two rather large DLC packs. It's a gigantic game, that isn't really artificially lengthened either. Even the basic side quests are meaty, including the monster hunts, and usually have two or three sequences to them. It's easily one of the most impressive games I've ever played, in terms of always doing that little bit extra to make every little thing matter, and not just feel like mindless busywork or grinding.

As for comparisons, it pretty much stands alone. It takes elements from all sorts of games, and puts it all together into it's own unique package. It's hard to pin it down to anything in particular. At it's core though, it's a third person open world action RPG, with tons of exploration, missions, and decision making.

Thanks, Ill maybe play it once I have a lot of downtime.

Playing 140h of a great game seems amazing before you start but it really adds up due to fatigue. No great game can keep up pacing over 140h, unless its a great RPG. Ill see if all the praise is warranted.

Pre-load is live on Steam. I think it unlocks here around midnight the 23rd. :( I'm going to stay up to stupid hours, aren't I?

I'm trying to decide if I'm going to stay up late or go to bed early and wake up early. I can get a good three hours in if I wake up early. Although one time i tried this after preloading the game and somehow I had to download the game all over again I was fucking pissed. Maybe this time I'll backup the game folder just to be sure.

Actually I just did the calculations from steams #s and this doesn't unlock until 10am CST. So I wont be able to play until after work.

I put over 200 hours into The Witcher 3 and never played Gwent lol. Granted it became my favorite game of all time and I was completely obsessed, but still, 90 is nothing

Take me down to the neck beard city where the smell is bad and the hair is greasy.
Lol

Running through BB again right now, just killed Rom. I'm usually extremely thorough with games (hence the above post) and still completely missed the Old Workshop, Cainhurst Castle, Iosefka's Clinic, and somehow all of the cords lmao. So I gotta do it right this time

Not a ton in the way of content outside of Cainhurst. But yeah, get those cords and the “true” ending.

Was cool wandering into the old workshop so far

Ohh and the DLC. Never did that either lol. The game just ending after killing German really threw me off

Also bought the Blades Of Mercy for the first time. Not gonna lie, kinda hate em lol. I'm still all about the Holy Blade / Hammer / Cleaver

Oof, DLC is arguably the best content.

Blades of Mercy are kinda broken if you have high stamina. I don’t even use them anymore since they just rip through everything.

I haven’t actually played most of the games I own (big backlog) but generally once I start a game I see it through to the end. In the last 10 years I think the only game I walked away from was Lords of the Fallen because I just considered it a horribly inferior game to the Soulsborne series.

Same here. I should just crash early and get up and play all day Saturday but I'm kind of a retard when it comes to new Fromsoft games so...

Sucks you have to work this Saturday.

This comes out on Friday 10am cst. Thank god I don't have to work weekends anymore. Well on call but that's way easier and is 30 mins every other month if that.

Are you sure? I think it drops Friday night.

Gonna pick it up tomorrow night, play for a few hours, got Friday off so I’ll play most of the day.
