PlayStation Official Returnal Discussion

Oh……oh yeah this is one of those. Just burned two hours thinking it was ten minutes exploring the outstanding space environments and trying to make sense of a world I clearly understand little about currently.

My tangible progress feels like nothing but in significantly more knowledgeable about some of the resources and tools available to aid me.

This is gonna be a good one

Enjoy the experience! It was such a novel one to me. The way they packaged it made it feel more real than gamey IMO.

Really enjoying it so far. Got another 2 hours in today. I’m starting to figure it out.

I now understand my objective within the biome and how to build my strength. I got my xeno blade and I’ve got a run going in which I believe I’m reaching the end of the biome as only a red room and what I believe to be the boss room remains.

I love the combat. At first I was playing it like a classic shooter. I spent most of my concentration on paying attention to aggroing the mobs in chunks and not diving in. Now I’ve learned that’s a good way to start but once the combat gets close, you have to use your mobility and elusiveness. I’ve quickly become an expert at utilizing my special burst powers and alternating evasion and gun heat management. It’s so so so fun.

I’m constantly finding myself completely glued to the screen as I try to figure out a puzzle room or try to decide whether or not to take on a parasite or malignant equipment.

Currently challenging but I don’t feel overwhelmed. We’ll see how that goes as I move along. Great game so far

They throw some nasty enemies at you in Biome 3. Most of this board hit a wall for a bit there and progroressed slowed a ton. Biome 5 gets pretty tough too.

Patch 2.0 is out
https://housemarque.com/news/2021/10/25/returnal-patch-20

comes with Photo Mode and Suspend Cycle
Suspend Cycle
One of the main features of this update is the Suspend Cycle functionality, which will allow you to pause your cycle to be continued later, letting you exit the game and turn off your console without losing your progress in that session. The structure of the game remains unchanged, so this functionality is not a traditional mid-game "Save Game" option: by suspending the cycle, Returnal will simply create a single use suspend point, and once you resume playing the suspend point is deleted and cannot be used again. Your game will continue directly from the moment you left it, and if you want to suspend the cycle again, your progress will be captured from that new point onwards. There are some limitations in place – for example, players won't be able to create a suspend point during Boss battles, cinematics, first-person sequences or during intense combat scenarios – as we felt there are certain moments in Returnal that are best experienced unfragmented to preserve the intended challenge and flow.

With this approach, we can keep the roguelike spirit and "high stakes" commitment to your run intact, while still providing some quality-of-life convenience for players who like to experience Returnal in shorter bursts. So next time you're deep into a lengthy session on Atropos and life comes knocking at your door, you'll be able to simply Suspend Cycle and jump back in at a more convenient time.

Photo Mode
Along with the Suspend functionality, we have also been working on another feature that's been highly requested by the community and will also be included in this update: Photo Mode. Selene's journey through Atropos is filled with many memorable moments that are worth cherishing; whether it's dancing on the knife's edge amidst intense bullet hell combat, or taking a fleeting moment of serenity to appreciate the eerie atmosphere and dark beauty of Atropos, our Photo Mode will allow you to immortalize these moments in all their glory.

At any point during the game (except some limited circumstances like our first-person sequences), you can simply pause the game and enter Photo Mode, which will put you in control of the camera. You can then use the analog sticks and the adaptive triggers to move the camera around and pick the perfect angle for your photo.

Fucking finally, makes it much more appealing to come back to and finish.

Hell yeah. that's all one could ask for. I may revisit it one day. Still have to plat the game cause i can't find those last few shitty ciphers.

Also wouldn't mind leveling up ALL the weapons skills. There should be a secret accomplishment for that shit. I was on my way to doing it with that final level cheese but that grind broke me. Tried to go back to it and they patched it. I was pretty damn close too (fuckin' A). Anyone who accomplishes that (pre-cheese) is a Returnal fanatic.

Sooooo I downloaded this game yesterday cuz I wanted a no nonsense action game.

Returnal DOES NOT disappoint.

Just starting out right now but the scenery, action, details, are all top notch. Soundtrack could be better IMO.

Wanted to bring attention to this gem as it's a game from a small dev with a new IP that released in PS5s first year while console shortages exist. I fear this may be overlooked by many.

Definitely should get it, my favourite game of last year. Really hope they release DLC for it.

100% will. Just a matter of when. So many games coming out but a lot of them are open world. So I might spread those out a bit and Returnal seems like the perfect game to squeeze in between one of the open world games.

Like a few in this sub, it's my 2021 GOTY by a large margin. As for the soundtrack, it gets better...trust me. Also, it probably has the best use of 3D autido I've experienced so far.

Good call. I'd push it up the rankings.

Finally scored the last few trophies i was missing. Two of them were in biome 2. I was actually running through biome one mostly to level up cause i figured i needed the levels to survive. Then i watched a vid to figure out what i was missing and this player just avoided everything, just jumped straight into biome 2 and continue plowing through everything without shooting anything to look for what he wants. I am like FFFUUUCCCKKK... scored everything on my 3rd run following that strategy - this is way faster. Ran the Ascension tower and had to kill 100 hostiles with the disgorger weapon to score the last trophy i was missing.

Still love this game and would go back periodically but i am glad i finally got every trophy.

Was hoping they'd release some proper dlc for this, can't see it happening now.

They did release DLC. They added co op and an endless tower mode attached to some story. It’s a lot of fun. Only like 1 percent of people beat it according to trophy data. Kind of sad really. I got 100 percent platinum . Love this game, still my favorite PS5 title.

After taking a break from getting pummelled in the derelict citadel decided to get back into it, finally extended the bridge and climbed the tower.

Took 3 tries on nemesis then smashed through the echoing ruins and hyperion at the first time of asking.

Suspended the run at fractured wastes because pesky responsibilities got in the way, games awesome.

Probably should have looked that up, i had no idea!
