Multiplat Official Lies of P (Pinocchio Souls) Discussion

good entry to the souls genre. Every boss fight being 2 stages though.... that needs to fuck off.

It feels like game design for the subgenre has been trending this way to bloat difficulty. A cinematic or lore bit used to accompany select second phases, which gave meaning, but now it's just running every boss back so it's longer.

Related, the industry in general still disappoints on design systems for difficulty; seldom included for difficulty settings, for example, are creatively augmented movesets what have you but rather a paint-by-numbers HP or stam nerf (you), skills debuff (you), DMG buff (enemy) et cetera. Lazy AF. Uninspired. The combat school of sponge, in short.

Have they mentioned where we access the new DLC levels? Do we have to be at the end of the game? It’s a prequel so I have no idea how this is going to work. I’m currently in the beginning of my third playthrough so been wondering if I should get to end game or not.

Fair enough. I had fun with it but posted my grievances above. It’s not their best but a solid adventure with some challenge.

Haven’t played LoP at all beyond the demo myself; shied away from the boss-rush vibe I got and subtracted exploring. Is the actual game different from my early impressions?
I’m only a couple of hours in but I’m loving it. It’s taken me a few tries and each time I get progressively more invested but this time the combat clicked. It’s a mixture of Bloodborne and Sekiro and while it might not reach the heights (yet) of either, it’s throughly engaging and becomes its own thing.

Would definitely recommend checking out.

I pirated it and enjoyed what I played, loved the visuals especially, but I felt the exploration was severely lacking. That's a key pillar for a Souls game for me. Does it improve? I think I played about three hours or so.

It's not imperative though, as I still loved Nioh 2, but mainly for the gameplay. The exploration/level design and enemy variety was pretty meh, but the combat was more than enough to keep my interest. How would you compare Lies of P to that? The level design/exploration has to at least be better.

edit* damn, not sure how I missed you saying you only played two hours lol

This game is the tits, I’m absolutely loving it. Just cleared the fire boss and I’m sure I’ve barely scratched the surface.

Hoping I can get through it before Wilds drops.

It’s pretty hollow compared to a Souls game so far but the combat more than makes up for it imo. Overall I’ve seen one level that had some interesting and intricate level design. It’s a lot more than kicking over a random log to open up a shortcut like in Nioh for instance.

Thanks man!

Are all the enemies machines like in the demo or does it broaden?

The combat in that regard reminded me of Steelrising, which I beat but didn’t enjoy that much; something about the melee clang does little for me. I prefer flesh.

Nioh 2 is one of my all-time loves because while the exploration can be give-or-take linear, the combat…dude, it’s best in subgenre.

There’s enough variety for me. The puppets start off pretty similar but their weapons and varieties start to prevent it from getting stale. They also mix in some sub bosses that you can kill and permanently get rid of but offer more challenge. I just got to an abandoned church and was immediately thrown off guard by the change in enemy type. Was a pretty awesome surprise.

No offense guys but it's getting to be too much lol. I thought someone was replaying Wo Long and find there's a whole page of LoP Discussion lol meanwhile the official thread is pretty barren. I say we move there because with the DLC later this year there's going to be a lot more talk on the game.

Just keep in mind Wilds isn't going anywhere and it's best not to rush a game like that anyway. You could easily play Lies of P between monster hunts. Glad you're liking it though, when it released I was surprised you were nowhere to be found on this thread considering how great of a game it is and how much you like this genre.

Tidied up, rehousing derailing posts and refocusing both threads! Carry on.

It just never clicked with me for whatever reason. I started playing it again though on Game Pass a few months ago and started liking it but I remember you saying it was getting a Pro update so I waited and am enjoying it even more.

Just cleared Chapter 7 and Victor, only the King of the Puppets took me more than a few tries so far but that was a fairly brutal fight for me. I’m seeing what people are saying about the multiphase boss fights, takes the suspense out when you expect it but it’s whatever.

I’m going my usual Souls-like route and using a heavy strength build with hard hitting weapons. Currently swapping between the Bloodborne callout Sawblade and Coil Sword when I need more mobility.

The exploration still isn’t the best but I do like all the side quests that keep popping up.

Still absolutely loving it. This is by far the most time I’ve spent on a game in months.
