Official Judo Thread VIII

i think he was scared he might enjoy it, which i didn't get because i think the nordic countries are this socialist utopia where everything is like Modern Family but everybody's blonde. maybe it's some taboo viking thing...i mean...they are sailors.

you know, the types of dude that'll tell another dude he's f*ggy for using moisturizer or knowing the words to Shake it Off, but they're secretly prowling the casual encounters section on craiglist hoping to get so far up some butt they'd need King Arthur's help to pull 'em out.

I heard if you pull Einarr out of another dude you become king of Iceland.

i babble about people's problems with police isn't about being policed, but how aggressive they are in escalating situations. i'm glad they recommended getting rid of this dipshit, yet i can't help wondering if it's only because he's paralyzed?

so not an ippon?

Seriously though, you nailed it, it's not beef with the police people are angry at, it's how fast they can escalate a situation by being overly aggressive. It's a shame really.

A question on ura-nage

I've never had a particularly good back arch due to some back issues. I know some people use ura-nage as a leg tilt kind of throw - you squat, roll uke over your thigh and then arch to finish.

Compare for example the orthodox (and kata) versions of ura nage

to

Can suggest any videos or more detail instruction on the "leg tilt" versions? I didn't get very good formative instruction in ura-nage coming up the ranks, so it's not a throw I excel at.

Heh...taniotoshi is fine and I'm ok at it (by default) but I'd love to find a way to slam a motherfucker :)

I wonder is there's much that can be cribbed from a wrestling supplex and applied to uranage...or do people feel the mechanics are reasonably different?

Dat back arch tho....my back feels uncomfortable just looking at it :/

The second video shows pretty much the realistic options in gi, which are mainly counters.
If you are not limited by 3 seconds grip rule, you could actively fight and enforce uranage position off a 2 on 1 or belt grips. That would be the aggressive approach.
And again, the Greco video above demonstrates how to suplex WITHOUT the help of the legs (reaping, blocking, lifting) because it is prohibited in Greco.
With a gi, you have a lot more control and possibilities.

Hmmm....this seems on topic

So the idea is to squat them and then turn rather than the GR back-arch version? I kinda gave up on ura nage 10yrs ago but it's made a big, big comeback in comps now and I think I had better learn the offensive and defensive versions. I think I've been trying to do everything with just a back-arch

A question for Ippy, or others that do rubber band uchikomi at home.;

Is there a specific type I should be looking for? Bicycle tubes? Therabands? What works the best for you guys?

I really need to improve my shitty seio nage.

I'll check those out. Maybe Sprawl-Mart will have what I need.

How do you set it up inside? I've been thinking I could pinch it shut in a door, or tie it off to a radiator. My building's old as hell, though, so I'm not sure what's the sturdier option.

Thatch hitting o soto gari/gake on Henderson. Akiyama-esque.

I like this one a lot! We have an old tank of a guy who murders me with it whenever i slip up. Also been able to use it myself with decent results.
