Official Judo Thread VIII

That's because there's too much soccer mom country out there. Listen to some Corb Lund if you want good writing.

Also, JTB, I vote you bury a couple guys your first day of BJJ class. I want to see some new topics about 'OMG Judo guyz illegal slams! What do!?" in the forum.

Lol, one of the guys posts here I think.

Harai, Osoto, and footsweeps. I never bury anybody, mostly just use them as guard passes.

I've been at my new gym enough that when I stand and try to get uke to come with now there's always chorus of "NOOOO!!!" and "JUDO GUY! JUDO GUY!"

It's really nice, people will stay on their backs rather than play standup. hOKAY!

Haha Same experience here. Don't stand with him, he's a Judo guy. The best part of being a Judo guy is never having to do Judo.

For the guys that cross train in BJJ which throws do you usually use?

I have a small in issue in that with me only recently starting at the BJJ gym I don't want to upset them by burying them as they have really hard mats, plus I saw them doing jigari (sp?) rolls and they can't breakfall very well.

I guess I'm just looking for a low impact throw that doesn't make me look like a try hard at the new gym.

To clarify, they don't really start standing but after a round of rolling the guy wanted to do standing with me to begin and I just kind of stood there uncomfortably, defended the shot for a while then pulled guard.

I use a lot of Uchimata, uchimata - tai otoshi, Ko soto gari, de ashi harai, Ko uchi, O uchi, and Sumi gaeishi.

Basically all of my throws that I use on Judoka LOL

I just emphasize a lot of moving around and 'shaking the tree' until I get them in position I want for my attacks.

This song hypes me up when i'm trying to get into a Japanese samurai hype mode. :icon_excl

You should follow up the guard pull by kicking your opponent's ass, a la Cerrone in the UFC 182 fight, while verbally questioning their masculinity and sexuality.

the nice thing about being a big oaf is nobody pulls guard, they don't wanna concede position.

Better yet, make them question your sexuality.

When you're able to posture up in their guard, start humping them.

I think the art of BJJ itself is one long, sustained exploration of the limits of one's sexual conventionality. This can take years.

Dude, that was the best thing i've ever seen in MMA!

Same here, it was fun at my first competition, I can hear all the coaches tell their guys I was a Judo Black Belt and to 'try your best' to take him down (gi). But in practice...they all just sit :(

Its all good, I would perpetuate the fear by telling them I had cracked old training partner's ribs by falling on top of them after a throw via Osoto gari.

:icon_lol:

I've only had one guy who didn't try to pull guard against me in BJJ class, and that was because no one told him I did Judo. there was a lot of "What the heck, guys!? Why didn't you tell me?" after the fact, haha.

I did visit another school one night while my instructor was guest teaching. I rolled with a guy who wanted to do standup. I told him I did Judo and he said he was ok with that. And he was, right until I hammered him with a harai goshi. Then he just wanted to start on the ground.

I want a shirt that says "If Judo was easy, it would be called BJJ".

Trolling the masses.

Nice!

I did a trial class with my old beat up judo gi and battle tapped fingers. The blue or purple belt looked at my tattered collars, fingers, and fresh white belt and said something wasn't adding up! All I said was 'Judo' and he sat down.

Then I was like dammit...should of said aikido.

I don't think I'll ever buy a BJJ gi. They just feel way too flimsy and overpriced for what they are.

I'd rather get one of the new 750g IJF approved gis.

Sigh...we'll never have the 990g gis again....Watch the IJF limit the gi to 550g just like a middeweight bjj gi.

I don't have much to compare it to, but my main gi is a ki double weave, and it is outrageously heavy, particularly when drenched in sweat. Feels like it weights 12 pounds or so at that point.

Still using my old HSU double weaves from 2006! (They're getting a little worn...probably not comp legal anymore...)

Fucking sore from an afternoon session at the rec club....this does not bode well for my return to the "kick your ass" club tomorrow night.

I like my Dom Fight Gear BJJ gi, but I'm starting to feel like a pussy considering that Judo gis are a lot heavier and thicker. I've shopped around, but I haven't found a Judo gi that I like yet. If anyone knows of a good Judo gi that can fit a 6'2'' guy with long arms and legs, let me know. Preferably in black, but beggars can't be choosers.

It's hard to find a gi that fits in length, but isn't a fat boy size.

Where is the "kick your ass" club located?

People at judo always bitched and dudes at jits made me buy my buddy's tatami estilo and will bitch if I wear my eurocomp :D they even got the last month of blue's life before I retired him and THAT sumbitch was sandpaper. I kinda want to get a moskito for the lulz.
