PlayStation Official Ghost of Yotei Disc **NO SPOILERS

I'm nearing the end. F. Great game. Torn between pushing through or dillydallying in mop-up. Unless I'm platting, there's 100 a psychological thing for me after beating a game and hanging around; my headspace shifting almost immediately to the next journey.

Sounds like they've roadmapped MP in rollout with Y1 story expansion? Hm. Maybe I should leave this unbeaten for a bit. Thanks. @Fury

The Legends MP is confirmed by the devs for 2026.

They spoke about doing single player dlc and said something about listening to what people want.

If they didn't want to do Atsu DLC... They could

they could easily do the Kitsune story

Also, I have the same thing when I beat a game's story

Interesting, I like this story better. I liked Tsushima's too though

Yea I like this story better. I enjoyed GOTs at times but it just wasn't as good as GOY to me. I absolutely loved the ending in GOT though when you meet up with your Uncle.

Yea this is why I stopped in Act 3 and did trophy clean up because my mind starts wandering about what I will be playing next. I think I got it down to just about 4-5 trophies when I beat the game all of which were nearly done so I had no issues finishing it. The game does display a large point of no return sign so you'll know when it's time to stop and do your clean up.

Only a few hours in but I'm loving this so far. Been doing mostly bounties and side stuff. I love that you can play with Japanese audio and English subtitles (and switch it back whenever you want). It seems like they simplified the combat a bit from GOT and there is nothing wrong with that. It's really satisfying.

My only real gripe is on my PS5 slim the graphics drop off in performance mode pretty severely. Most games I don't even notice but this one almost had me considering playing at 30fps.

If this game was made by Ubisoft it wouldn’t get nearly the praise it did. I feel like it’s a giant game of fetch quests and the only real saving grace is the terrain and the combat. A lot of its design choices get a pass simply because the game presents itself as serious and cinematic. If you strip that away, what’s left is very familiar open-world padding.

Ghost of Yotei

The Pros:

  1. The combat is excellent. They took the Arkham formula and formed it into a Samurai game. It’s not without its flaws, but it is easily the best part of the game and carries most of the experience.
  2. The visuals, when you’re not right next to someone, are gorgeous. The environments do a lot of heavy lifting.
  3. Bounties were cool and at least tried to break up the routine.
  4. The story is ok. It works, but it’s nothing special.
And it ends there.

The Cons:
  1. The game LOVES to tell you how beautiful it is by making you do lazy parkour up to mountain tops over and over again. This feels less like intentional design and more like a way to distract from how unimaginative the moment-to-moment gameplay really is.
  2. How many total lines did they record for this game? Do I really need the lady at every village to tell me the same thing about following a fox? This kind of repetition constantly reminds you that you’re playing a system, not living in a world.
  3. I’m playing on performance mode, but the graphics up close are horrendous. Some of the worst facial animations I’ve seen. People legitimately look like cardboard during emotional moments.
  4. The boring puzzles in one of the ranges were just lame and felt like they existed purely to slow you down and pad out playtime.
  5. I should probably put the bounties in the middle tier. While they were one of the better parts, there’s still a lot to be desired in terms of depth and variety.
  6. There is ZERO immersion in this game. You save a village and then immediately loot some old lady’s house. It feels strange and completely takes you out of the experience.

At this point I’m basically hate playing just to finish it, and I’m almost done. The biggest problem is that they did nothing imaginative to really differentiate this from the first game. Running around hunting for fox charms, hot springs, and painting locations was fine during the first map, but it got old very quickly. By the second stage I was bored out of my mind.

They had a few moments where world events actually happened, but those were far and few between. Most of the time you’re just performing the same activities again instead of being surprised or challenged in new ways. Once you understand the systems, the game stops pushing back entirely.

In my opinion this would have been much better if they focused on a more limited open world and kept the narrative flowing. They could have put those resources into bigger set pieces, better character models, and more interesting traversal and parkour. Having someone actively hunt you throughout the game could have added tension and led to a meaningful final showdown.

The whole game felt lazy after the first section, and if I had to score it, I’d give it a 6/10 strictly for the combat and the views. It’s polished, but not creative, and polish only carries you so far.

Didn't like the Nine Tail puzzles either nor the dialogue + handholding weight (go here, go there for pretty albeit largely empty exploration outside fetching, NPC interact); also, thought the parkour tedious especially when we've a grapple hook so should be much faster (fast = fun for merc immerse).

Loved the combat + WPNs and the world is gorgeous. I played on Pro and didn't notice the texture issues up-close but the facial animations were mid, agree. (Still too advanced for Ubi though, aaayyy, lol.)

One overarching thing I delighted in was the Tarantino vibe throughout with the scoring and Kill Bill storytelling. Honestly, that alongside the quality of combat brought this game up really high on my 2025 coolest-experiences list.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I got really bored playing this too and basically forced myself to see it to the end. They really did just play it too safe in my opinion. The setting especially wore me down. It's like everything is just mountains and trees and open fields. We saw all of this before. Where are the larger towns? Where are the new activities? Everything felt the same. Sony has been criticized for playing it safe with sequels somewhat but I've thoroughly enjoyed Spider-man 2, God of War Ragnarok, and Forbidden West. This is the first Sony game released this generation that I just didn't vibe with. Thought Atsu and the story was largely forgettable and while you have access to more weapons it still feels like the same rock, paper, scissor combat from the last game. You know things are bad when a first party Sony game releases and it doesn't even make it into my top 10. My top 10 looks like this

1. Expedition 33
2. Silent Hill f
3. Shinobi Art of Vengeance
4. The First Berserker Khazan
5. Absolum
6. Sword of the Sea
7. Cronos The New Dawn
8. Neon Inferno
9. Wuchang: Fallen Feathers
10. Earthion

It could be open world fatigue. None of the games listed here are open world. I think I generally try to avoid them but for a first party Sony game I'll always buy day one. If they make a third I might actually not buy it unless major changes are made.

I actually don't think not making it into your top 10 is bad at all. This year has been incredible. Even your top 10 is missing every single nominee from the GOTY awards.

I personally liked Yotei way more than Tsushima and the combat felt a lot different and way better to me. Ragnarok was the only sequel that I kind of felt was meh. The good thing is Sony is good about having studios move on eventually so maybe we get one more Ghost game but I'd be shocked if we got anymore after that. I personally would like them to move on to something new. We already know we are getting something new from the GOW team.

While that's true there are many nominees absent keep in mind I haven't played the majority of them whereas I did play and finish GoY but you're right there are a lot more games to compete with. Heck, it wasn't even nominated for game of the year.

I'm really excited for 2026. As much as I enjoyed 2025, it was mostly great indies for me that kept it a strong year. 2026 has a lot more AAA games that appeal to me.
