My fear is it may fail at both
Meme imply "Souls game" as something given, but true Souls game it's not a level of excellence you reach by default
But tbh i watched very little of vids from the beta, to not spoil myself too much shit

I have faith in FromSoftware, actually is the team i probably trust most to don't disappoint me, but at same time what i seen so far gave me the impression "open world" gimmick came with a price... hope to find out my suspects to be all wrong lol

I played the Beta. Ive also played every souls game including Bloodborne and Sekiro. Elden Ring is incredible.

no spoilers, there are parts that are easier than your average souls games, and parts that are incredibly hard. Id say harder or just as hard as your average souls game. The great thing about it is that its so huge there is something for casuals and veterans. If you're a newcomer, you can "git gud" by venturing into the easier areas

Thanks for the reply, but difficulty was'nt much my main concern
That's kinda safe bet, FS at this point is kinda hostage of it's own standard and audience, if suddently they go full retard to please the "give me easy mode" internet crowd they get called out instantly and they know it
But more than that i think it's just something against their own design philosophy, so i have faith on that side

My doubt is, you that played the beta had the impression that the level design is on par with DS standards?

Like, feels like even open areas have been designed with a meaning (exploration, combat dynamics, enemy placement, secrets, "fuck you" blind spots etc) with usual care/thought or due open-world size are just generic empty filler to sell "big open world, buy it" to consumers?

I've read the impression of a reviewer that said to have played the beta for hours and complained about stuff like that (to be clear, i already had these doubts before read his article), but to be honest he also added that he feels FS is maybe holding back lot of stuff on purpose

When it comes to the level design of the dungeons in the open world It was nothing exciting to be perfectly honest. However the level design of of the main castle is on par with dark souls.

I will say this though, I don’t think that from soft bosses were meant to be fought in an open world. it makes it somewhat easy to cheese them.

With that being said, the beta was only about 12% of the entire map, plus it was early game stuff and the placement of certain enemies and items aren’t necessarily finalized for the final version.

Yea I had a feeling that would be the case.
The AI tracking is still pretty good. I tried Cheesing the first open world boss by getting on a ledge and casting magic but he ended up climbing up there with me.

Nothing "game ruining" for me so far.

I came Into the game without trying to have any bias; In fact I was afraid that I would be disappointed. I was not.

Yea honestly in most of the From games even with the closed off area some of the bosses can still be cheesed. I figured with an open world like this it would lead to more instances of that. Same with Seikiro and the stealth kills.

Ive said it time and time again, graphics dont last, art direction does. People are getting worked up over Matrix looking gorgeous, but guess whats gonna age horribly?

ER looks gorgeous, just look at the cover from the new Edge Magazine thats gonna release. Look at that shit, I want a damn high quality poster of that.

Time for Bloodborne, baby (My personal favorite)

I have played it and enjoyed it, BUT I am also very much a DS player who hides behind his shield at all times, so I am terrible at Bloodborne and prefer DS combat. Still might make a run at it though.

I call this move the leaker's lull:

Can confirm that tons of spoilers have released. In fact, pretty much the entire game 's story and Dialogue, as well as items, weapons, and item descriptions, and map/environments

I haven't seen anything, but I put blocked keywords on YouTube and now I'm going to do the same for Twitter.
