Multiplat Official DOOM ETERNAL Discussion

Is he as tough as the original? I only played Doom 2016. I can’t play Doom Eternal because I sold my PS4 and in total regret. I feel like it’s unethical to go around people to buy another PS4 during this pandemic.

I beat Doom 2016 last night. I immediately started playing Eternal. I'm a couple levels into Eternal and so far I like 2016 better.

I don't like the platforming. I don't like the environments so far. I feel like I'm in medieval Scotland or some shit with lush green grass.

The Hell Knight is bigger and more badass in 2016 compared to Eternal. That really stuck out. He is like twice the size of the Eternal version.

There are too many options on Glory kills and I feel like I have to use them. Flame thrower, blood punch, useless punch, then regular glory kills.. There's too many options for me.

So far I like 2016 but my opinion could change the more I play.

The Hell Knight is definitely cooler and stronger in 2016 tho. Much bigger and meaner. I think all the enemies might have been scaled down in Eternal from what I seen so far. The mini Spider Masterminds are cool in Eternal tho.

The hell knight has sucked since they took his horns away in 3.

I think it's like how the Arachnotron is different from Spider Mastermind. They're both smaller versions of the bosses from Doom 2016.

No, the arachnotron was a basic enemy in Doom II.

Do you mean the Baron of Hell? The Hell Knights don’t seem much different between 2016 and Eternal, but the Barons are quite a bit different.

Kinda, the Tyrants are described as there being lots of them in Hell whereas I think there was only one Cyber-Demon in 2016.

What? Were you meaning to reply to someone else?
The comparison between the Arachnatron/Spider Mastermind and the Tyrant/Cyber-Demon seemed appropriate.

Yeah, this is what I was getting at. The Cyber-Demon was shown in 2016 and he was way bigger and nastier. The Tyrants are like smaller versions of them.

Well I guess. I was just pointing out that arachnotrons were introduced back in Doom II. And at that time they were basically just a mini Spider Mastermind

Man their death noise was the most satisfying shit ever

So I’m a couple of missions in. Glad to see that they seem to have buffed the plasma rifle a bit, since it seemed woefully underpowered in 2016, whereas it was super awesome back in classic Doom.

Yeah, 2016's Plasma Rifle was a joke. Eternal's is a huge improvement. It sounds better, does great damage, and its Heat Blast is great for gibbing fodder demons (combine it with Flame Belch for an ARMOR SHOWER) as well as destroying weak points (particularly against Revenants, whose small missile launchers are otherwise tough to hit). Whatever you do though, DO NOT get the Microwave Beam mod! One of the absolute worst weapon mods in the game, hands down.

Seconded on the microwave beam...

I didn't pay much attention to it until I beat the game.. I figured since I had all other mods mastered I might as well max this out...

The mastery challenge you have to do to unlock that last perk shows just how pitiful this mod is... You have to wait to charge someone up and then hope an enemy with low enough health is standing right next to it so that when the explosion triggers, it *might* kill the other enemy.

Pathetic.. not worth the hassle.

The heat blast is good though.

The Plasma Rifle in 2016 was my favorite weapon. I would stun the bigger enemies and shoot the shit out of them. It could also stun multiple enemies. Sometimes I would stun, then switch to rocket launcher and start launching rockets...

I'm not really liking Doom Eternal so far... I know I'm in the minority but I like 2016..

The platforming kills the pace of the game..

I'm not even going to lie. I die a lot in the platforms.. Also sometimes it's hard to figure out where I need to jump to.. The destination will be half way across the map and I got to somehow double jump, then dash while collecting dash refills, land on the monkey bar which flings me another 100 yards usually in the wrong direction... I hate that shit..

Then the level where I had to shoot doors open that closed after 5 seconds while jumping around on platforms that fell into lava if you stayed on them too long.. Not knowing where to go because I rarely use maps.. I trialed and errored my way thru that shit over 2 days...

That level was a nightmare.. Almost made me quit the game..

I only play Eternal in 20-30 minute spurts..

Eternal is like Darksiders, combined with Zelda, and given a FPS view...

I hope they get rid of platforms in the next Doom or figure out some other shit that isn't as ridiculous..

Give Doom Guy a freaking jetpack or some shit... All that technology and Argent Energy and they got me flipping and flying around on monkey bars...

Goddamnit, I just bought it on my Nightmare play through to see if it was worth a shit, lol. The first time around it looked useless to me. Uses a lot of ammo which takes ammo away from the Ballista

Have you ever played a platformer game (Mario, Crash, etc)?

I'm hoping Doomguy gets to use a mech at some point. There's so many in the game I was thinking maybe we'd get to use one
