Coaching Official Coaches and Trainers Discussion

Hahah. Veteran move, adjust your shin guards, move around a little bit, and circle for 10 seconds 🤣

Did you see his last fight? Knocked the guy out in dirty boxing super quick. I’ve seen him have harder sparrings than that
I wish he’d hang them up but god gave him that punching power for a reason. He’s doing what he’s meant to do

Hi Fellows,

Sorry for @'ing a few of you I don't know but I would like to ask for you help on a writing project I am working on.

If anyone of you would like to share any expressions or terms your gym or fighters use to describe stuff that happens in training, while cornering, during sparring or just bullshitting around the gym, I would very much like to steal them and incorporate them into this project.

It's been 2 decades since I've been in a serious martial arts gym, so I am way behind on the lingo and want stuff to sound authentic. I assume y'all don't walk around your gym going "that was a Jim Dandy of an overhand right Bill uncorked."

I'm looking for stuff like calling getting cut "Leaking" instead of bleeding, or what you call it when someone lands a bomb during sparring did the one guy get "Splatterblasted" or "Mollywhomped" or "Slobberknocked", etc.

Hopefully that makes sense and thanks for any help you can give me.

FULL DISCLOSURE- Other than a few newspaper articles, nothing I've done so far has been published, so you might be wasting your time helping, but I promise you a like on your comments, so there is that benefit.

PS @Stoic1 I am already planning to steal the Oleg triangle defense story, but in my defense, I have heard it mentioned elsewhere just not as well done as yours was, so thanks for that...

I'm trying to think up examples... blanking on most.

My lexicon is mostly names in Japanese, sometimes shortened (drop seoi for example)
It also helps that the opponent and their corner have no fucking clue what I'm saying.

A lot of moves I've taught that are kinda synonymous in my mind with specific fighters.

Igors specific style of Russian hook he did on Bueno and Takahashi, that's the igor hook

Then you got the stutter step kinda left hook though it comes straight in kinda thingy that Randleman did on Crocop, though the best example I can't remember exactly who he fought. Probably around pride 18-24

Then there's the similar punch shogun did against Chuck

Slightly different angles and slightly different punches, but those are affectionately known as the randleman punch and the shogun step in left respectively

Hey Fellows- Thanks for your help so far.

In addition to any additional gym slang you might drop on me I need fighting women.

Well I need at least 1 interesting "origin story' of how a full contact female fighter, mma or boxing, came to start her journey in combat sports.

Obviously, the more interesting their journey is and the better story teller they are, the better.

If Y'all know someone who might be willing to share their stories and perhaps even answer some female fighter specific questions, I'd sure love to get a real life answers and stories. I suck at writing from a female perspective.

All questions and responses would go through you here via direct messages, so the person or people helping would have total anonymity.

Tots understand if this is asking for WAY too much help, but would appreciate it if anyone can help.

Anyone else with real life experience as a coach, promoter, manager or fighter that might want to help with lingo, stories, or a female fighter's origin story, I'm all rabbit ears.

Thanks,

Honestly I've never really trained women outside of mild training some girls in Judo.

Fuck man, you survive the round(s)?
It was just a short 2-3 minute round. But he blitzed me with straight shots against the wall, which made me reactively shoot. He reversed me and I ended up in mount getting ground and pounded. He wasn’t going 100% because it was supposed to be a drilling pace and that would have came out of nowhere, but I’d say he was hitting me decently hard from mount for a good minute while I tried to escape.

I’ve occasionally seen him go 100% on people too, very entertaining and vicious
