Coaching Official Coaches and Trainers Discussion

Hey! Long time I haven't heard from you! I'm great, how about you? Still training people?

That low kick is asleep for a couple years now lol haven't kicked anything or anybody in quite sometime and if I ever fight again it will be under Olympic boxing rules.

Crazy to think that fight happened more than 10 years ago... damn! You guys were always super kind and helpful to me in a time I was left on my own by my coach. What a great community!

Got fighters who make bad decisions? Me too:

Yeah... in and out of the ring/gym. I had a guy who did both, all the time. All emotions, no brain inside that head. It came to a point of no return recently, I had to kick him out of my gym. I worry about him, tho. Kid gonna end up in prison if he keeps his demeanor.

Yeah I have a few like that who havent been coming around much. And not doing much constructive going by their social media. It sucks

What up guys, just here to rant.

On Nov 17th, one of my guys had his 5th UFC. We spent 8-9 weeks preparing for a muay thai striker (switch stance guy), to only have him drop out about 5-6 days before the fight. Ended up taking a fight with a guy who is primarily a grappler with a big right hand. My guy ended up getting finished in the 2nd round via sub.

I know, its mma and injuries and pull outs/short notice shit happens... but man it sucks when my guy is depending on this money... like i said I know its mma and you have to be prepared for all kinds of opponents but man it sucks to HAVE to take a fight with a new opponent just cause he doesnt make enough money fighting in the UFC.

alright done with my rant lol

It’s especially tough with the ufc because there’s an unspoken threat there if you don’t play ball with stuff like this.

you don’t have to give specifics, but was there any changes in the new contract besides the opponent?

Nope, no changes

@DoctorTaco

since we cannot add everyone to the DM message. Im thinking something like a group email. or possibly a closed group facebook page would work. I think this is a great idea since you have "cracked" the code. myself and many others can learn alot from you. and Im sure everyone can have some sort of worthwhile input.
Dog should create some thread plus allow patricipiants to delete PMs if both sides of conversation agree with Del stuff.

Hi Fellows,

Sorry for @'ing a few of you I don't know but I would like to ask for you help on a writing project I am working on.

If anyone of you would like to share any expressions or terms your gym or fighters use to describe stuff that happens in training, while cornering, during sparring or just bullshitting around the gym, I would very much like to steal them and incorporate them into this project.

It's been 2 decades since I've been in a serious martial arts gym, so I am way behind on the lingo and want stuff to sound authentic. I assume y'all don't walk around your gym going "that was a Jim Dandy of an overhand right Bill uncorked."

I'm looking for stuff like calling getting cut "Leaking" instead of bleeding, or what you call it when someone lands a bomb during sparring did the one guy get "Splatterblasted" or "Mollywhomped" or "Slobberknocked", etc.

Hopefully that makes sense and thanks for any help you can give me.

FULL DISCLOSURE- Other than a few newspaper articles, nothing I've done so far has been published, so you might be wasting your time helping, but I promise you a like on your comments, so there is that benefit.

PS @Stoic1 I am already planning to steal the Oleg triangle defense story, but in my defense, I have heard it mentioned elsewhere just not as well done as yours was, so thanks for that...

cool idea man, I’ll write them down as I find myself saying them.

“The guy can’t hold his mud. He starts bleeding during the national anthem”

“He couldn’t crack an egg with a hammer”

“He couldn’t bust a grape”

“He couldn’t hit him with a handful of rocks”

“He has pillow fists”
“He got green lit” (Fighter beat someone up out of bad intentions)

Calling someone a drillbuster - someone who is a bad drilling partner or who messes up the drills

Me and my friends used to call someone getting beat up “waxed” but that could be just an us thing

Big shots are also called bombs

“Green light” is good, I forgot about that one. I remember taking a boxer to spar at another gym and it got rough real quick. I’m hollering “green light! GREEN LIGHT DYLAN!” and the poor kid didn’t know what I meant bc it so rarely comes up at our home gym.

So in between rounds I told him it was a fight and he can swing as hard as he wants. He whipped the kid all over the ring and later I explained the call so he knows if it happens again

A couple months back I got green lit by a certain former ufc champion (you know who, the only one in my state)
That was extremely unpleasant

lol. Hope you came out ok.

I think I told you when one of our amateurs caught another Hawaiian pro we both know (friends with that other pro at our gym) in an armbar early into a round of mma sparring. This ammy is a black belt and a high level no gi competitor, no shame in getting caught.

Tapped out out the visiting Hawaiian, stood up and there was still 4 minutes left in the round. Poor kid got the brakes beat off him for the next 4 minutes 🤣

Later I told him that just bc you can, doesn’t mean you should. Take the moral victory, let the sub go and things will stay at a reasonable pace. Or, if you’re going to sub a high level pro like that you should wait until the very end of the round. 30 seconds left or something. Once they tap you can adjust your shin guards, fix your gloves, make sure your knee pads and elbow pads are exactly right… slowly get up and by the time you touch gloves again you’ve got 10 seconds left to survive

Hahah. Veteran move, adjust your shin guards, move around a little bit, and circle for 10 seconds 🤣

Did you see his last fight? Knocked the guy out in dirty boxing super quick. I’ve seen him have harder sparrings than that
