Coaching Official Coaches and Trainers Discussion

fun round have a question about the technique but this might not be the thread for it so i will spoiler it below
fun round
christian has that real good put pressure but make you miss thing down. ONe thing i noticed though is that he did seem to get tagged by that stiff lead jab (probably the only punch Logan could land with any regularity) when he reset to his stance. Why was that opening available?

Logan does have a good jab, and he IS a State Champion. Cristian's worst habit is laziness, he languishes in the middle more than I like. But that being said they had more than one session where Logan got yelled at by his Coach after.

I can see it he gets too lax while resetting still in mid range
but it is not picking because just from that round he clearly controlled it while he was pressuring it.

I might have another round or so where he's much more active. He's actually more of a counter-puncher than a pressure fighter.

When I first got here and saw Logan spar I thought he had a lot of potential. And after the session he told me he felt like he wasnt being trained right, within earshot of his Coach. I just kinda walked off.

But all my guys hope he eventually decides to train with us. I'm not gonna press it.

Got to play the politics man. Shake the babies and kiss the hands and all that. They

Some of you may remember one of the Norwegians I trained was Alexander Martinsen. When he first came to me it was to learn to fight Southpaws, as his biggest rival was a Russian who lived in Norway who was #1 in the Country. Alex was #2. It took 2 camps but after the second one, not only did he defeat that guy but he ended up winning the Scandinavian Championship in his division, and was a sure thing for the European Championships, which would have qualified him for the Olympics. Internal politics in Norway prevented that as they simply chose not to send him and the one other fighter they sent lost.

Alex still went on to keep coming here and eventually he was in 2 camps with Caleb Plant. The one for Feigenbutz, and most famously the one for Canelo. After that he and I kind of had a bit of a falling-out, until last year. He came with the other 5 Norwegians I work work and apologized for his behavior in neglecting our relationship. We reconciled and he did a lot of very good sparring and growing here. Since then he's had his 2nd Pro fight, with Alex Hagen as his head coach and corner man (primarily because I'm not over there lol). Here's how that went:

@DoctorTaco Congrats! Any videos?
ill dm you the link, it’s unlisted on YouTube:

If anyone else would like to see I can send it to you as well. The kid did great considering it was really his 4th fight. We’ve got to work on his power but the rest of it I’m happy with, all things considered.

fighting in the finals on 2/18

@Sinister any idea if they have a 119 or 146 female at the Nevada state golden gloves? Or a super hwt male? Trying to figure out if we’re unposed at regionals

Vegas GG is generally skinny because no one wants to fignt at Barry's. I dont really care, but my guys lagged on renewing their books.

Unless Arizona shows our big it’s looking like our girls and big guy are moving on to nationals. Sort of bummed, my girl needs experience way more than she needs a national ranking

It be like that. If MarcAnthony would have renewed his book in time we could have done that.

Golden gloves finals today for little Sam. Got 2 other guys on the card. My tall, novice boxer puncher Collin and an mma guy on loan til his knee gets better.

Collins stepping up to fight a guy with 12 fights for his 5th, but he’s stopped 3 of his 4 opponents so it’s a good match up. Aaron has had 7 mma fights and has knocked some guys dead. He’s boxed with the team for a while now and has been matched with a kid with 6 fights from the benevidez brothers gym. I’ve got my guesses about the level of training and trainers there (outside of Sr., of course) so think it should be good for him too.

Sam’s fighting for the gg title. Good boxer who plays in and out and loves his left hook. We’re working a pressure, inside game and going to be shutting that hook down all night. Score our points, win exchanges and hopefully come out state champ and Move on to regionals.

0/3 for the night.

One of our mma fighters laced up the boxing boots and gave it his best but got stuck driving in reverse. It’s a bad habit of his and he’s aware of the detriment, especially when it comes to ammy boxing.

my wonder kid Collin went toe to fuckin toe with a kid who just took 2nd at the national silver gloves tournament. It was my kids 5th fight but he needed to be tested and he needed to get a taste for high level competition. Mark my words, he’ll be at the Olympic training center in 5 years.

our golden gloves run for little Sam ends
Here. He boxed his heart out against a guy with the same style but better leverage. Cards on the table we got our game planned as well. We focused on shutting down the opponents left hook (which worked) and they worked
The body early and often which against a cardio machine like sam is a great plan. Sam’s 5th fight though so I’m not ashamed at all.

You win or your learn is bullshit. Sometimes you win and learn, sometimes you lose and don’t learn shit. In this case though I’m proud of the team, their performance, the trust they put in me when I tell them they belong
In there with the best. At no point did any of the boxers from my look as if they didn’t deserve to be in there. No 8 counts, no blood, when they had the advantage they pressed it and when they didn’t they fought like hell to get it back.

My adopted 125er Haidon Got some great rounds in with local golden boy signed pro victor morales jr. Haidon is splitting his time between my gym and one closer to his home. We’re focusing on prep for golden gloves regionals and then the national qualifiers the next weekend after that.

kid hung tough and to victors credit he didn’t totally bully him either. Both guys benefited for sure

Been having a solid run in the Gloves this year. 6-1 in the tournament so far, one Western New England Golden Gloves champ, 2 Central New England Golden Gloves champs, and one all New England Golden Gloves champ. Have one more fighting next Thursday for another all New England title next Thursday.

fighter looks clean with the striking, especially for a grappler.

what happened to your shoulder?

I love those small show vibes. There’s still a lot of magic in the circus
