Agreed with literally everything you just said.
I do, however, highly recommend giving "Escalation" mode a shot. It's a mode that has gotten very little attention, but it's basically like the best of Conquest and Breakthrough in a single mode. You play on a Conquest-sized map, and as the round progresses the team who holds the most flags earns 'points,' and the first team to 3 points wins. Each time a point is awarded to a team, an objective is removed from the map and so the number of objectives becomes smaller and smaller, leading to more and more intense fighting. What's awesome though is that the play area itself remains large and open ala Conquest. And so you get the freedom of Conquest with the intensity of Breakthrough (especially late in the game), minus Conquest's nonsensical 'ring-around-the-rosies' progression and Breakthrough's overly linear, meatgrinder-y nature.
