True but Ode deserved to lose after he failed to finish a rocked opponent with a locked in triangle choke.
The sport has improved in many ways but one thing that has seems to have decayed over the years is guard work. The display from Osbourne and Grasso off their backs last night was pitiful if you ask me. If you can't play guard effectively then get the fuck up or at least try like O'Malley was.
I don't understand how people are just waiting out triangle chokes in the UFC.
I haven't done BJJ in years, but when I did triangles were pretty much the only thing I was good at. If I got a brown or black belt in one like Ode had Ronaldo, then it was over unless they were really good at the few escapes there is. Even then, not getting triangled is way more about avoiding the lock rather than actually getting out once it's on, which a million times harder.
But Ode and other fighters just seem to have no issues just waiting it out. They don't even try the escapes. Ode is a purple belt too. He's not some high level black belt.
