The claim that the Obama administration accused Donald Trump of winning the 2016 presidential election due to fraudulent voting machine tabulations is unsupported and directly contradicted by the record.
In fact, the U.S. Intelligence Community’s January 6, 2017 Assessment explicitly stated:
“DHS assesses that the types of systems we observed Russian actors targeting or compromising were not involved in vote tallying.”
Similarly, then–Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson testified before Congress in 2017:
“We did not see evidence of manipulation of voter tallies.” (House Intel Comm., June 21, 2017)
Whille the Obama administration and U.S. intelligence agencies concluded that Russia engaged in a wide-ranging campaign of disinformation, hacking, and influence operations, they were clear and consistent in affirming that no evidence existed of altered vote counts or tampering with voting machines.
Claims to the contrary misrepresent the government’s findings and undermine the factual and bipartisan conclusions reached by both the executive branch and the Senate Intelligence Committee.
