Because Trump talks shit? I think you're overselling his intelligence here. He (hypothetically) would have escaped evidence for decades, now with another 4 years guaranteed. Who was gonna hold him accountable? MAGA? lolol

The much more likely scenario is that influential people didn't want their name dragged through the mud.
Remember that a lot of these influential people didn't actually take part on the diddling and most likely didn't know it was going on. But they still don't want their name associated with Epstein at all because it would be career suicide.
If Trump's willing to cover it up for backdoor bribes or whatever, I'm not sure I see that as a lot more morally superior to being involved.
