They are actually looking out for the safety of fighters, like Max may very well have been able to make the cut but they are still erring on the side of caution. How many times is a blind eye turned in all sorts of industries for the sake of profit. These guys dont benefit from preventing fights to take place. They know this is a big blow to the card. They actually are willing to forgo all that in this case for the fighters safety.

I also commend them on not allowing Felder to fight. Its like they are in a way preserving the integrity of the UFC (whatever is left of it). They are saying that Felder based on his rankings should not be fighting for a title. While it sucks that Khabib now might not get to fight at all. On Principle this to me seems to be the correct move. A shot at the title should be earned, Felder should not have an opportunity to fight for a title because of a crazy set of circumstances, where he is literally the last option.

I know it sucks for us who want to watch a fight. However, here we have someone actually standing up to the UFC. Calling them out on their bullshit and somehow they are now taking heat. They are looking out for a fighters health, and the integrity of the sport and people are pissed.

I agree. Glad theres atleast one commission with morals out there.

Great post TS.

Fighter safety is #1. I wonder why Max was so big. Maybe he hasn't been in the gym.

Go fuck yourself. They are fighting for a living. Maybe they should ban head strikes and go point karate style. This new generation will finally actually kill mma.

At least let a doctor look at him

I agree. But they didn't explain why Pettis was not allowed another 2 hours to lose the extra 0.2 lb.

Damn, how is Felder not ranked in the 10-15 range?

NYSAC has my approval. I like the Al fight better than Max, Pettis, and Felder.

They have to protect some fighters from themselves. I don’t doubt Max would have tried to cut the rest of the weight and make it to the fight - the thing is we have no idea how dangerous that would have been for him. He tried putting his body though basically torture so that he could fight someone. After starving yourself and dehydrating to that degree, it just seems obvious that the last thing that you should be doing is taking punches to the dome and testing your body physically. I’m sure the doctors had good reason to call it off. I would rather see him come in healthy and ready to go, rather than show up in poor physical condition - that’s when injuries and permanent damage could possibly occur.

Could not agree more. The UFC attempted to pair one of the best p4p fighters in the world with 1. an injured 145'er, 2. a 2-5 in his last 7 fighter and 3. an unranked fighter. All the while having options of many healthy fighters ranked in the top 10 who could have taken the fight had they just booked them instead of Max in the first place.

The "Title" has nothing to do with the commission. I can see them saying that a fighter with no experience shouldn't fight a seasoned pro, but these guys are both professionals. The title is just something created by the promoter and shouldn't factor into the athletic commission's decision.

I get Max but Felder not so much, although I do agree with the point about the ranking and any integrity for a UFC title.
It's not like there's that much difference between Felder 7-3 UFC, Iaquinta 8-2 UFC and Pettis 7-6 UFC.

It looks like Iaquinta has the fight anyway.

The NYSAC is a joke and has had a at least one shake your head moment at every single card they have overseen. UFC needs to remind them that since the UFC is the only organization with the finances to put on a show in New York they need to get their shit together.

1. I agree with the idea of protecting the fighter from himself. I don't believe that the Commissioners who have been on the job for what 5 cards total have the expertise to make that call without a Drs examination .
2. They have no business at all in the title discussion. They are there to protect the fighters. They license them to fight, and determine the rules of the contest and who wins - that is all. California could not strip JBJ for testing positive, but they can suspend him and enter a no contest. The UFC titles are property of the UFC to put on whomever they like based on any criteria they like. Thus they can allow one champ that gets injured and can't fight to keep his interim title while two others fight for the real title, and then simply make the interim title the real champ in one case. While in another case strip an interim champ who gets hurt and can't fight while two others fight for the real belt. if The UFC wants they can make CM Punk vs Michael Johnson be for the UFC Intercontinental Dana White Catchweight Super Championship. The Commission has no say in the repercussions of the fight result. Just the result itself.

They don't care about the fucking fighters they care about their own asses they were sued recently and were sued for 100 million dollars. They ended up having to pay out 22 million for medical negligence for a boxing match which resulted in a boxer having to take a taxi to the hospital after a fight. Subsequently that boxer was in a coma ending up brain damaged.

That boxer who won the lawsuit also happens to be a friend of Khabib's

Now they're trying to pay him back by doing everything they can to make Khabib lose

It makes sense to prevent squash matches. Blocking Felder makes all the sense in the world to me. If you have a deep knowledge of the sport you would recognize that as a squash match, but even with a passing review of his resume you would quickly determine he's got zero experience fighting top 5 fighters and he's lost to much lower level guys.

Regarding Holloway, if he looked like he was having trouble walking on his own, convulsions, who knows what they saw, then it makes sense to call it off. They are already aware the guy was called in last minute, wasn't preparing for a fight, coming off injury, and has never even fought in this weight class.

Fighter safety is progress.
