Elections NYC mayoral race

I think I read you saying you are there, so in your opinion as a local, what would you wish he focused on first? If that is different than what you think he CAN accomplish, why?

Yeah they aren’t leaving. NYC still has that mystique and people still love it. Not yet. Other cities in the US would have to grow their reputation and economies before there is some real exodus from NY.

I am not there. Not even close. I live in the southern United States. Just a political observer like you. That being said, I think the first thing to focus on is the rent freeze. You have to start stabilizing prices before they can start going down. You can't keep asking people to pay more for housing when companies are not paying the standard costs of living. The economy is not good under Trump so far so you have to start capping things especially areas where the rich tend to use their wealth.

Gotcha. That makes sense. Thanks for answering.

Knowing Your Abbreviations: “Etc.” vs “Ect.”

Abbreviations “etc.” and “ect.” are commonly confused. “Etc.” is an abbreviation for the Latin phrase “et cetera,” which means “and other things.” It is used frequently to denote that a list extends beyond what is mentioned.

Conversely, “ect.” is a very common misspelling of the abbreviation. It has no recognized meaning in English and should not be used in writing. This knowledge can make your writing clearer and more professional.

I guess young people and immigrants don't know about the 80s NY I remember. Good luck NY. But your failure will only increase my net worth

Gonna be very interesting to see how this guy manages to pander to both his own religion (essentially far-right in its beliefs and world-views) and to the far-left who have voted him in. Genuinely interested to see how this pans out, my first guess would be he ditches the far-left crowd as useful idiots who were a helping hand in getting him in, and carries favour to his religion. Sadiq Khan's London is probably a good idea of what lies ahead for NYC.

Uhh what? Is he pandering to his religion AT ALL? Dude was seen in a gay bar at 1AM. Are we even sure he is Muslim?

He’s the Muslim equivalent of a cultural Catholic. He’s a progressive first and foremost.

I think if Zohran can even get a quarter of the stuff he promises done it will mean good things. I don't look at last night as so bad for Republicans though as I do for establishment Dems. You got Zohran winning, Prop 50 passing and rumors of Pelosi retiring in 2026 all on the same day. I truly hope he can do even a portion of what he campaigned on because lets be honest. The rich are not leaving. The most populous city in the United States and you're leaving to go where? Florida? Arkansas? Montana? Texas? You're not going and staying there especially since Wall Street lives in New York City.
Except they already are, and that's only going to accelerate. The growth in millionaires badly lacking the rest of the country for over a decade has already cost them $13 billion in tax revenue, because when you're that reliant on a small number of taxpayers doing all the heavy lifting, then even a small number of them leaving is catastrophic.

This "we can do whatever we want to them and they'll never leave" attitude is exactly what's going to make this so funny. First of all, they certainly could and many have left for other parts of the country, but they don't even have to. They can move to Greenwich or Fairfield, they can move to long island, or they could move to Jersey and just commute in to save on city taxes. If you make $10 million, why would you not take a 45 minute commute to save $200,000 in taxes and live in a house 10x the size of your apartment in NYC? A lot of people already do that when they have kids they don't want to raise in the city.

I think the most fun is what happens literally every time. You don't get the money from "the rich" that you were expecting, so you gradually start shifting who you get it from lower and lower and start hiking up bridge tolls and adding "congestion pricing", then city taxes start applying to lower and lower incomes.

Andy Cuomo lost. This is a win for all Americans, just like it was 5 years ago when he was exposed as a complete bum loser poltician, despite the DNC making him their darling and giving him awards.

this really is all fun to watch
I’m loving it.

And the people crying about radical Islam are idiots. He’s going to try and implement a progressive platform. No one needs to worry about Sharia. Never mind the fact the Constitution can’t permit it.

I could actually live under Sharia, but most of you all, especially the lefties couldn’t. I don’t drink hardly ever at all. I could take or leave pork. I don’t fornicate outside my marriage or watch porn. I’m not religious, but as a non Muslim, I wouldn’t be required to participate in worship.

I’ve never seen such a fall from grace like that in real time before.

GWB comes close. Everybody was behind him after 9-11.

Just glad Cuomo got embarrassed, what a jack ass.

Will be interesting to see if it leads to any potential in-fighting between Mamdani and Hochul, since Hochul will be running for reelection.

Lol, that’s a fail on my part, I bet I’ve used them interchangeably often and don’t recognize it sometimes since I type so fast.
