Elections NYC mayoral race

Does he? Haven't seen that but maybe I missed it.

You didn't have experience teaching at Universities and only have a Master's but got hired. Not to mention straight conservative white male are basically unicorns among Uni faculty from what I know and some places even try to hire them. Don't think that was your case but I'm turning the argument on you so to speak.

So was Adams' commissioner also a DEI hire?

Why?

If I remember, I will see what I can find as to the first point. That’s my belief from interviews and articles.

And maybe where you live, but not here. Especially, criminal justice faculty. As for getting hired, it was as an adjunct, where things are not as tightly vetted and they’re more willing to hire someone with lomited teaching experience. Plus, for some reason, I interview really well. I have never interviewed for a position and not gotten an offer(well, right out of college, I interviewed for a pharmaceutical rep job with Pfizer and they only interviewed me because they knew and respected my dad, who was a fairly famous neurologist. Plus, It’s a smaller school and used to be private. I know I wouldn’t get a job as a professor at a large institution-at least not full time without a phd. I may eventually go back for that. But my student evaluations were all very good, I put a lot of effort into it, met the university president and she really seems to like me and my wife works with my chair’s husband and we knew each other socially a bit-I had been to their house before-so it definitely helped. Also, my predecessor was lazy and did not move the program forward in a good way and did the least amount of work possible, so they didn’t renew his contract and they needed someone, liked me and my teaching style, the students like me, and I am local with deep roots here and live five mins from campus.

So I definitely wasn’t a dei hire. I am all for diversity because I love intermingling with different people-especially their food. But I am not in favor of dei because in my opinion, in order to purposely go out of your way to hire diversity, you have to ignore and not a give a chance to someone who doesn’t fit into one of those categories. In other words, diversity for the sake of diversity involves discrimination-something we should all be against whether it is used as a weapon against a black female or a white male, and that’s definitely what we saw starting with affirmative action but it really kicked up in 2020.

We just hired a new professor and today was his first day. I finished my second class and went to my office and he was moving in and I introduced myself to him and we talked for a while. He appears to be of Asian descent and he is gay and mentioned that his husband is a deputy where he calls home. But I definitely wouldn’t call him a dei hire simply because he’s gay or Asian-or Gaysian.

On my old pd, we went out of our way to attract and hire minorities but we weren’t very successful. It seems no one wanted to move to a mostly white area making what we made-at the time, my old rank, lieutenant got a 40k raise since I left, when they could make more somewhere else that recruited harder and had more to offer-at least people coming from outside the area. And when we did get some, they didn’t stay long because they were so in demand that they got poached out from under us. Plus, in particular, black males were not passing the written test or the background checks. I had a black partner for two years in a row and probably would have kept working with him but I got promoted to sergeant and he got fired for a domestic incident in which he and his then-wife got into it and she took his gun out of his holster and held it above her head and threatened to harm herself. They fought over the gun and she had injuries. I wasn’t there-only those two were, but she did have his gun because her fingerprints were on it. I just saw him two weeks ago at the grocery store and we always got on very well-except that he would drink strawberry milk every morning and then put in a dip of mint Skoal and then spit into the milk bottle and it used to make me sick. I also saw firsthand the amount of hate he got for being a black officer. Sometimes, it was racist white dickheads-male and female, but the worst came from the black community that called him Tom-shit for Uncle Tom. So I get why one wouldn’t want to put up with that when they have other options.

As for Adams first hire-I don’t know. She was female and had 7 years experience on the fire department, but didn’t actually fight fires if I recall. His second hire was unqualified white male, third choice had 37 years firefighting experience and was replaced by mamdani.

I try to avoid sharing many details of my real life on Sherdog as I am something of a polarizing poster. But thank you.

Me, I am kind of an open book. I probably shouldn’t be, but I am actually a very open and honest person and say what I feel-even when it ruffles feathers. I also have posted pics, which not many would do around here-especially the war room.

Sorry, double post

But I will post this- not sure what started this, but some dude with an American flag gets into a fight with several polar opposite protesters and it doesn’t go well for them. Also, I don’t follow the original poster or know who he is-this was a retweet but I found it amusing

I don’t know who this is, his politics, or anything, but it popped up on fights on twitter.

I love how Red Jacket comes back for more, after already being filled in. Just a tough guy walk with his hands down. Open season to anyone who actually knows how to fight. That was not a wise decision.

This is what the left should worry about. Their "soldiers" are bunch of sissy pacifists and middle aged women acting tough. Reality is gonna come a knockin'(literally in this case) if they keep fucking around.

Godamn, that guy in the red jacket got Poatan'd

He is already delivering on his promise of universal child care. It took him 8 days.

Keep supporting corruption, Commie. We all know what that means... big government bills, donations back to the Democratic Party by the "child care providers", and no children learing anything.

He's an empty suit that will only make NY City worse, which most didn't think was possible.

I always feel that I have to point out that I am neither left nor right. I’m some weird mopey motherfucka somewhere in the middle without much of a tribe and absolutely zero representation in our government.

But with that said, in my opinion based upon news stories read, crime stats, and especially at protests and riots, the left really does seem to be the more violent of the two.

I hate antifa a good bit and I also hated the proud boys who were also a bunch of douchebag larpers as well, but I liked actually seeing people that sort of seemed like they maybe could fight going up against anqueefa who mostly swarmed on singular people and women who dared to not want to change in the Wi spa next to a man with an 8 inch penis or compete against one in a sporting field-we saw how well that ended for fallon fox’s opponents in the cage.

So while I probably hate this guy’s politics-well, maybe, I liked that he just knocked out like four wannabe tough guys that are probably used to swarming and cornering women or chasing down some sting-bean armed YouTuber. So overall, do recommend and would watch again.

Mamdani gets shut down in his first communist agenda item…

Besides his awful plan where he is trying to arrange it so nyc or non profits get first crack at any property going up for sale whether you’ve already found a buyer or not, which is unAmerican in my eyes, I have absolutely zero doubts that the way they will distribute this housing with be equitable with zero preferential treatment given in who gets to have first crack at living in these wonderful utopias.

That’s COPA. It was passed by the NYC city council, but vetoed by Adams right before he left office

There’s rumors that Mamdani will revive it.

It’s crazy legislation that is likely highly unconstitutional.

What these dopes don’t realize is that rent stabilization has created borderline slums because landlords can’t pay for upgrades or fix issues because they can’t charge market rental rates.

There’s people who have lived in units for decades. Their rent locked in.

It’s a cycle caused by rent stabilization policies

Yeah, that guy can fucking fight unlike the leftist weird cunts trying to get him. That guy in the red jacket striding towards him, hands completely down, only to get completely flatlined with one shot - that's a guy who has never had a fight in his life and has been completely emboldened by an internet echo chamber and a mob around him. I hope he actually suffered a serious head injury from that and is taking stock on the real world outcomes he never knew existed.

Yeah, I have heard about the issue of rent stabilization for years. I tend to think that it is probably a combination of that plus there are too many slumlords that won’t do repairs because it cuts into their profits as well as many of them live somewhere else and just collect a check.

That is a big issue here. There are so many property owners that live down in Florida, some in New York, a few in Cali. I know this because we have had to track down the property owners for abandoned houses that kept getting broke into and lived in by crackheads and the city wouldn’t board the place up until they talked to a property owner. And the worst properties that are slumlord territory are out of state owners.

Progress takes time, especially when greedy dipshits are opposing it as much as possible.

Imagine if Mamdani's opposition spent the money on trying to make things better instead of obstruction.
Greedy... lol

"Free" isn't Free... that's the special word they use to fool plebians like yourself. Because it gives you a warm fuzzy inside without having to face reality.

And it still needs to be passed. Mamdani hasn't done shit except make more promises.

An agreement — which Hochul expects would cost $4.5 billion this year, including $1.7 billion in new spending — would mark a significant milestone for the governor, who’s running for a second full term and has pledged to address New Yorkers’ deep concerns over affordability. Hochul, who delivers her State of the State speech next week, has placed an emphasis on cost-of-living concerns like utility bills and grocery prices — but the buzzy political issue has taken on more weight since Mamdani sailed to victory by successfully framing his longshot campaign around affordability last year.

A child care plan, though, must still be approved by the Democratic-led state Legislature in Albany, and lawmakers will likely want to leave their own imprint on the policy as the state budget talks proceed. The details announced by Hochul on Thursday will likely change as the spending plan negotiations proceed over the next several months; a budget is due to pass by April 1.

Our Time, an advocacy group formed by former Mamdani campaign volunteers, similarly cheered the announcement, but stressed that tax hikes will be needed to ensure a stable cash flow.

“We think additional revenue will be necessary in order to make this a permanent program,” said Susan Kang, the group’s senior adviser. “It’s only a beginning, and we’re going to continue the fight because universal child care is a vision that’s zero to six.”

And like other heavy blue states, New York already one of the highest tax rates in the US and current have a massive budget deficit. And free child care will increase spending by an estimated $4 billion? So they're going increase taxes more? Good luck with that. I like the idea of Universal Child Care, but they're going to have to cut budgets somewhere else... Or raise taxes lol.

This is BEFORE the taxes that will be needed before "Free" Child Health Care and Mamdani's "Free" Public Transportation...

New York Warns of $34 Billion Budget Hole, Biggest Since 2009 Crisis

New York state’s cumulative three-year budget gap has swelled to $34 billion, rising 25% from Governor Kathy Hochul’s estimate in January, Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli said.

The projected deficit as a share of total spending would be the biggest since the financial crisis in 2009, DiNapoli said in a report Friday. The shortfall is driven by spending growth in Medicaid and education

New York lawmakers approved a $254 billion budget for fiscal 2026 in May, with spending on Medicaid rising to more than $112 billion, or 44% of the total. The state portion of Medicaid spending rose to $44 billion, while aid to schools increased 4.8% to $37 billion.

Even as New York boosts spending, Hochul’s budget included a more than $2 billion tax cut for the middle class aimed at easing the burden of inflation. But a weaker economy means that both personal income and business tax revenue are forecast to decline from previous fiscal years.

Mamdani, a member of the state Assembly and a democratic socialist, has said he’ll push for an increase in the state’s corporate tax rate and a new tax on millionaires to pay for an ambitious policy agenda, including free bus service and a new free universal childcare program for residents age 6 weeks to 5 years.

Hochul has said she won’t approve any tax hikes in the coming year.

Sooo... Where is the money going to come from? What programs are going to be cut? And how will the state prevent massive child care fraud? lol...

New York City already has huge issues with vacant commercial properties. I know!! Just raise more taxes?

Because increasing the tax rate on zero revenue... is more than zero? lol

Who cares about reality though... Just pander to low IQ morons by promising "Free" services when there's not even enough money to pay for the garbage they already have. And y'all flock like lemmings to vote for it.

Give Hochul some credit... it appears she understands the massive dilemma she's in. She backed Mamdani because she has to pander to the low IQ morons to get votes. But she can't alienate businesses either, so when Mamdani isn't around, she assures businesses that there will not more tax increases.

lol...

Something is has to give eventually... Either taxes will need to be raised or Mamdani will be made to look like the complete moron he is. And Hochul is likely to take fall because Mamdani will be able to shift the blame to her when the NY State Senate rejects the funding requests. Or they'll crater and risk losing more business fleeing the New York for more friendly states to operate.

Either way... It's a win win for me to get to watch it from Texas. It's going to be highly entertaining to watch either way

With Wall Street jobs fleeing, New York is nearing the point of no return

New York is losing population, losing jobs and losing ground to the rest of the country — and its leaders just don’t seem to care.

Start with last week’s news that banking giant JPMorgan Chase now employs more workers in Texas than in New York City; indeed the Lone Star State now has more bank employees than Gotham, period.

Partnership for New York City chief Kathy Wylde is badly understating things when she calls this news “scary.”

Plenty of other finance jobs have flown to Florida, North Carolina and other states; the day grows ever closer when the Big Apple, once the unrivaled financial services capital of America and the world, will become a finance backwater.

And now the decline is starting to accelerate again: The city’s financial-services sector shrank by 8,400 jobs from January through August of this year, after adding 6,400 in the same time period in 2024.

Despite that, the industry is by far the most crucial single part of the entire tri-state economy; easily the top source of tax revenue for both the city and state.

Indeed, local government is more dependent on Wall Street than ever — because other industries have already fled more completely.

Consider: 128 Fortune 500 firms had their headquarters in New York in 1965; today it’s down to about 50 — Texas beats us with 54, and even Florida has 22.

Yet the state government is ever-more hostile to business of all kinds.

For all her talk about making the Empire State more business-friendly, she’s barely been able to fend off the Legislature’s demands for major tax hikes — demands sure to grow as the state faces huge budget holes starting next year.

Yet the simply truth is that New York state needs to start slashing tax rates to remain competitive, whatever the cuts in state spending that requires.

I get it... You're just one of those wide eyed young liberals who idolize liars like Mamdani without digging deeper into why such promises are bound to fail.

Meanwhile... I'll be waiting here in Texas for those amazing NYC Government run grocery stores and Government run housing complexes that to don't have enough money to supply them or keep them maintained...

And I'll be jealous that I have to settle for going down the street to shop at HEB and Buccee's, living next cheap seafood markets on the Gulf Coast... with my affordable house and pool. Wondering why I can't be lucky enough to live in NY with $4,000/month shit one bedroom, commuting on public transportation with druggies and homeless randomly yelling and threatening me... lol

Did you know I live 5 minutes away from fish markets that have $4 per pound gulf shrimp? And steak around $10-$12/lb. My god!! Eggs are $2/dozen here? And my gas is currently $2.25 gallon? The mortgage on my house (with Taxes and Insurance) is $1,800 per month? 5 Bedrooms... We don't even have State or City income tax here!! Whaattt??? How?

And I'm able to support my three daughters completely solo as a full time single dad.

God Bless Texas...

There will always be slumlords... And they do need to be called out.

But don't mistake that for property owners who can't afford to maintain their units because rent has been fixed for decades... while costs having risen.

And lol at NYC buying them out and running them. I do want to see them do it and watch how it turns out.

Can you imagine average citizens hounding Mamdani at press conferences that the city run housing they live are complete shitholes? lol...
