NY Banning Smokeless Tobacco...

Tobacco use translates to higher costs for everyone because healthy people like me have to pay higher health insurance premiums so they can cover care for smokers when they inevitably get a disease.

Terrible argument. Gay people get way more STDs. As do black people. Should we ban gays and black people from having sex because it increases other people's premiums?

I find alot of things people do disgusting and bad for them, I don't think it should be legislated though.

Good, its disgusting. I wish the rest of the country would follow suit. People walking around spitting all over the place over leaving soda bottles of chew spit laying around. Gross.
Sorry, I make sure though that I throw my spit cups away, or dump them in the toilet before I throw them away. Some people are pretty gross about it though

Extreme argument. I would have settled with you at motorcycle helmet laws.

There are spitters on 4 of the 12 desks in the room that I'm in right now. I guess it's not common where you're from.

Great ban. That stuff is disgusting. I don't want to see that shit.

Its very common actually. Thats why it disgusts me so.

Wrong. Smokers cost the healthcare system less because their diseases kill them before the medical system has to care for them in old age.

So, if you're really against smoking because of healthcare costs, you now have to SUPPORT EVERYONE SMOKING CIGARETTES. If you don't, you're a fucking hypocrite.

I live in s Fla and spotters leave their nasty cups everywhere.. Only thing worse is seeing some chick dipping, trying to fit in with the latest country fad.

I would be cool with that too (and agree the players union would shut that down if the players wanted to use the stuff).

When I played in high school half my team used that shit. It's disgusting, but it really is part of the game. I played just about everything but soccer and baseball was the only sport where that stuff was around. I think it's due to having so much down time in the game and not being all that physically taxing.

I just don't buy the idea that government should be regulating personal decisions like that.

Hockey players put everyone to shame as far as smokeless tobacco use.

Erik Karlsson just got caught on camera flipping around a pouch of snus in his mouth.

I didn't know that about hockey.

I've played hockey for like 25 years, since I was three, I would say 90% of the kids I've played with, at some point, have dipped regularly.

I never really liked dip though to be honest......chew, snus, plug, twist.....anything but dip.

Oh shit that's a little surprising. I wonder how they keep themselves from swallowing the stuff.

You can can swallow with a snus pouch in and you wont get sick.

Doing it with dip would be a gamble unless you have an iron stomach.

No , smokers tend to have poor health for years before they finally die .

It's counter intuitive, but he's right. While sick people cost more for a point in their lives (they're sick), they don't stick around to get those really expense hip replacements, shoulder surgeries and end of life care that is super expensive. They tend to cost a lot and drop dead.

I'll see if I can find the study. I believed the same thing you did until I read the study.

By what right does the government tell people they can't use a product which only impacts the user?
.
Among other things, the 10th amendment specifically gives states that power.

I suggest you read your constitution a little more closely in the future.

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people
The ability to regulate the use of tobacco products is not delegated to the constitution or prohibited to the states. Ergo, it is a power reserved to the states.
