Not only is Aldo in the GOAT conversation... But

He couldn't make 155 and Justin is nowhere near a wreslter. MJ is also a NCAA wrestler but nobody calls him a wreter.
I don't know, 2 years ago people on here were clamoring that Justin has the wrestling(Lol) to challenged Khabib.

What TF has Cruz done to be as high as Anderson, DJ and Aldo????
Cruz stayed on top of the divisions for a very long time. He's still closer to the top and in all the years he's only lost in title fights to grabrandt and cejudo. After multiple surgeries and years off he returns to unseat dillashaw? that's goat shit. and he's beaten johnson, aswell. he's still fighting now too.

Ok you obviously regard longevity extremely highly as a criterion. Cruz is an ATG and (I guess) BW Goat but his accomplishments and legacy just does not compare with the guys you put him in the same tier with (Anderson, Aldo and DJ). There are guys you left out of the list completely (Stipe, Khabib, Amanda) who imo should be ranked above Cruz in any goat list.

He is also the undisputed Goat at multiple attributes of MMA.

TDD - Goat
Leg kick defense - Goat
Body shots - Goat

Last night was a real treat and watching Aldo win always makes me happy.

Aldo Forever
There’s also the longevity factor with Aldo.. the fact that he’s still performing at this level 17 years into his career is completely insane.. GOAT in longevity too lol

Had Cruz extended his reign during Barao championship run, as he should, he would be in the same league as Aldo or DJ. Unfortunately, injuries prevented him from such status.

Maybe, but look where he's at now and if he continues to win, lets say he makes ONE more run at the belt i think that would REALLY mean something. basically it's not over yet for him. same with aldo these late career wins of his are making us rethink whos goat.

Aldo faced Frankie Edgar x2, Mendes x2, Lamas, Faber and Kenflow and defended all their shots consistently. He did this while not having a size advantage like TIabu either. gtfo here bro.
Gleison Tibau has 28 total UFC fights and nearly all of his fights have been against grapplers.
Tibau has the best TDD in the history of MMA.

Aldo just isn't considered in the same goat category as Jones, GSP, Silva, or Fedor. Across most lists, he is usually #7 out of 8 divisional GOATs (above Cruz).

DJ, GSP and Khabib will probably move down on those as we get further away, so he could eventually be top 4 with Jones, Silva and Fedor.

OTOH, by this time I think everyone's mind is pretty much already made up.

Man, you're a fool if you think he was in his prime in these fights. Go watch his WEC career right now, I can tell you haven't. Go watch his Pancrase fight against Maruyama. That's prime Aldo. Compare it now to his UFC version. I don't even care about the level of opposition (which was not too shabby already, btw). Just look at the form and the speed of strikes, look at the output, look at the level of aggression. He never quite performed like this in the UFC.

He used to be such a fucking beast man, not just with stand up or with TDD either, like he still is nowadays. His offensive grappling was almost akin to Khabib's ffs. Look what he did to Mike Brown or Nogueira on the ground. Or what he did to Uriah. Basically the best grappling competition you could offer him in MMA back then. He fucking SMOOSHED them on the ground. Not the slightest hint of competitiveness levels of smooshing. His top control and GNP were insane. His takedowns too. That's Prime Aldo. Outside of one timid back take against Chito and a few meaningless takedowns againt KZ, we haven't seen SHIT from Aldo offensively grappling wise in the UFC.

There's no smoke without fire. If you hear about WEC Aldo everywhere you go in MMA communities, there's a reason for it. WEC Aldo is the GOAT. BJJ, wrestling, striking. 10 out of 10 everywhere, all while being as fast as a cat and more agressive than a pitbull. UFC Aldo is an old and patient Chinese master compared to this guy. He's more experienced, that's it. You only see sparkles of WEC Aldo there and there. He used to fight like that for the ENTIRETY of his fights. Munoz wouldn't have been able to put any weight on his leg after 2 minutes against WEC Aldo. Most probably wouldn't have seen the end of the 1st round.
PREACH BROTHER.

Yes he is a GOAT in a few categories. That's pretty remarkable in two stacked divisions.

I agree with everything you said. So I just want to ask....why? What changed? Were his injuries between 2010-2014 just a bigger deal than we thought at the time?

The other argument (that UFC competition is just more fierce, so he dominated less) is a legit theory...but if that is true it takes away some of the force of your argument.

4th best FW of all time

Just behind Conor, Max and Volk

Lost to all of them in his prime

Also has more title defenses than the other 3 combined GTFO. Holloway and Volk have a chance to surpass him eventually but Aldo is easily still the overall GOAT at FW despite losing to all three of them.

Zero title defenses in his career McGregor though? Hilarious.

Conor is not a small lightweight. He just can't hang with people whis own size so he had to kill himself cutting weight to bully smaller men in a lower weight class
A bit much to say he can't hang because he lost to elite fighters.

Conor would "hang" just fine fighting guys ranked behind him or unranked.

i've said it multiple times and ill keep saying it, theres nothing cooler and more badass to watch than when aldo goes killer instinct and just explodes and unleashes mayhem on his opponents. the speed and ferocity is unique. no other fighter comes close.
