Not Just a Cohencidence (Mueller/Investigation Thread v.20)

I don't know man, I don't have the answer to this.

But they are on record saying these are serious crimes. Would it not be their duty to prosecute him out of office? I mean, unless it’s just political to them

I don't think Mueller is politically motivated, I think he's just doing his job. They could very well charge Trump once he's out of office and they may just test the theory that a sitting president can't be indicted. That would be interesting to see that matter taken up.

Mueller won't indict but SDNY might

As far as Cohen is concerned, it's a settled matter. His record will read guilty of campaign finance violations. Unless Trump is charged, which he likely won't be it will never see another court room.

I hear Michael Avenatti is pretty good

It's an unsettled (by the courts) legal question. DOJ has said a sitting POTUS cannot be indicted. So unless POTUS is indicted elsewhere (state level maybe?) it's highly doubtful a sitting POTUS will be indicted unless something really extreme is really obvious

The idea of trump being indicted is so stupid. People ahould know Trump has war powers right now.

That while people scream about the dangers of trump, congress certainly hasn't seen fit to strip him of his war powers, or even hold a vote over it.

Abraham Lincoln suspended habeus corpus with those same war powers.

Well, thats the highest legal authority in the land and the man who knows the case best. I stand corrected.

Being President doesnt give one immunity from criminal prosecution or civil lawsuits. Your spewing defense litigation tactics for a sitting President to thwart any legal action against them.

They're granting immunity to a witness in regards to crimes that Cohen has already plead guilty too.......

<{anton}>

He must have something good - proof on Trump - they've been friends for a long time. Rage tweets incoming.

I'm merely arguing that it can be advantageous to plea guilty to crimes for which one is innocent. Some of the less-informed posters in this thread such as @Limbo Pete were convinced that "GUILTY IS GUILTY!!!>$!@$", but it just ain't so.
And it can advantageous to NOT plead guilty for crimes one is innocent of.

You are saying things that are true in a very general sense but meaningless and your mistake then is drawing a conclusion from them.

You : it can be advantageous to plea guilty to crimes for which one is innocent
Us: yes it can be

Us : it can be advantageous to not plead guilty to crimes for which one is innocent
You : yes it can be

Truism with no value to the discussion but where you then infer somehow that is meaningful to diminishing Cohen's confession and conviction.

Even the National Enquirer guy is turning on Cadet Bone Spurs loool.

https://www.cnbc.com/2018/08/23/nat...tors-trump-knew-of-cohen-payments-report.html

National Enquirer publisher David Pecker reportedly told prosecutors Trump knew about ex-lawyer Michael Cohen’s deals to pay women
  • AMI chairman Daivd Pecker gave prosecutors information about President Donald Trump's knowledge of payments his ex-lawyer Michael Cohen made to women alleging affairs with Trump, The Wall Street Journal reports.
  • Pecker, along with both his company and the Trump Organization, had reportedly been subpoenaed by federal investigators in April.
  • Cohen pleaded guilty Tuesday to eight criminal charges including tax fraud and campaign finance violations, and could face years in prison.
Criminals always flip on each other, this is going just like a typical Mob trial, start low on the food chain.

@waiguoren would say the threat of potential prosecution if he did not volunteer the truth is reason to say these statements are not meaningful.

Conspiracy is a crime, and a pretty well known one.
But is it still a crime if you confess to it? That's the whole swivel on which this chair of lies turns.

Talk about a 12 year-old being in charge . . . my goodness he is becoming more petty by the day.
