Not convinced Spivac has the best grappling at heavyweight until he fights Jailton Almeida

As many have said, Spivac vs. Almeida is likely next, if Spivac can outwork him on the ground I'd be willing to say Spivac has the best grappling chops. The winner of that fight will be close to a title shot too.

What does grappling entail? Because he hasn't got the best bjj and he doesnt have the best wrestling. I suppose he has a good combination of both. Gritty style

Jailton should be the better wrestler but his groundwork isn't all that. He has a big man's game too. I think whoever ends up on top wins.

Made much easier work of Lewis than Almeida did, though.

MMA Math for ya

Also worth noting that Lewis was coming in on short notice against Almeida as a replacement for Blaydes in a five-round fight he was not expecting to partake in for that occasion. Almeida largely dominated that fight with his takedowns and positional grappling, but seemed weirdly incapable of putting Lewis in serious danger with GnP or submission attempts. Hell, at times he even struggled to hold Derrick down and ended up getting reversed/put on his back by Black Beast in turn. More than once he had to eat a couple of nasty shots from Derrick in order to secure his TDs.

Totally different story with Spivak, who casually strolled out there, pumped a jab into Derrick's face to get him to lunge forward, snatched up the clinch, and then spent the next several minutes tossing BB around like a small child while punching his face in before finally -- mercifully -- choking him. And that was Derrick "The Slavic Slayer" Lewis on a full camp who ostensibly knew what he was going up against.

MMAth isn't reliable at the best of times, but there it is.

I think Spivak has better submissions and better throws than Almeida. But Almeida has a better double leg. Almeida probably also has better top pressure. Jailton wasn't able to finish Lewis but he held him down for 5 rounds.

I still can't believe Almeida took down American wrestler Blaydes for the entire first round. He should have had that fight in the bag.

It would be awesome to see Spivak vs Almeida in some grappling situations

Jailton said yes to this fight.

I'm happy for Spivac v Almeida, I'm backing Spivac to knock him out on the feet in that one to be honest

if Spivac just defends and doesn't just give up takedowns, he can just wait until Almeida gasses and then do whatever he wants after that. i think the Derrick Lewis and Blaydes fight show that. if you can make him work for takedowns and never let him settle on top to work submissions by exploding to scramble when he tries to set something up, he's going to gas from trying to maintain control and/or constantly regrounding you.
