Some Cliffs....
Inmates and officers hang out together play board games together etc
No handuffs in the prison unless an emergency
Inmates have small fridges in their cell ,small flat screen TV's
The prison has a supermarket and a huge music room with guitars a drum set etc etc

Pretty cool but yet ridiculous

They are called minimum security.

Try comparing them to this and not a Max or supper max.

Why is it ridiculous though?
Obviously, Norway's prisons are much more about rehabilitation rather than punishment. Which, ideally, is what penal institutions should be about rather than simply housing those who have broken the law.

Depends on how you look at it. For rehabilitation, it might very well be a great model. For punishment? Not the greatest.

I'm a "prison is for punishment" guy, so I think it's terrible, but I can see the other side of the argument as well.

Put a few violent American criminals in that Norway prison and there will be chaos. Just because something works well in one culture does not necessarily mean it will work everywhere.

The terrorist who killed like 73 people is in one of those "prisons" as we speak.

It's nice to see a country be pragmatic and not cave to victims and families of victims who simply want revenge with massive sentences and shitty treatment of inmates. That helps nobody, including the people who say they want those circumstances. Lighter sentencing combined with ACTUAL rehabilitation is shown in Norway at that prison, with incredible results. In 20 years they went from like 70 to 25% recidivism. That is good for society.

If you're dangerous enough, or your crimes heinous enough, to warrant a super max you should just get a bullet to the dome.
