Keep reading about how tea tree oil is good to treat skin bacteria, fungus and virus....Do you guys use tea tree oil soap or tea tree oil extract on the skin?

i personally don't but have heard it's a very good and natural antibacterial that's good for your skin and is used and sold in soaps and creams. Kills bacteria and good for acne and other skin maladies.

I second Dr. Bronner's. I try to only use it for post-workout showers though, as tea tree oils can be hard on the skin if used excessively.

The studies I have seen are somewhat dubious. Most haven't been published in peer reviewed journals, they would be what I would call "grey market research" in that they were designed and paid for by a company that has an invested interest in seeing the study succeed.

It is very difficult to know how much of the active ingredient you are getting when you use a non-standard product. People will say that it has helped them but this is anecdotal evidence and anecdotes and not proof and multiple anecdotes are not data. People often are "natural" items in the mistaken belief that they are safer or better than a manufactured product this is known as the naturalistic fallacy. Well designed studies of tea tree oil are difficult to find.

My personal anecdote of tea tree use oil is that I and my son had nasty skin reactions from using tea tree oil. Recognize that this is another anecdote.

Tea tree oil cured my ringworm but replaced it with dermatitis. Don't overdo it, it kills fungus but is a strong skin irritant.

I have used it in the past for the same reason as the above poster, for ringworm on my foot. It killed it but I don't like the smell. Can't think of what it reminds me of, a mix of kerosene and something?

There's other stuff just as good out there.

Defense soap and similar soaps use essential oils like tea tree as antimicrobial active ingredients.

You generally wouldnt apply tea tree oil directly and undiluted to the skin unless you were treating an active site such as a spot of tinea.

Even then you want a variety intended for topical use as some grades of the oil can be harsh, particularly on sensitive skin and you would generally dilute it for topical application to avoid irritation.

bronner's is good stuff. i use their tea tree oil soap after every class.

i also used to put tea tree oil on my toenail fungus. it slowed it down but didn't cure it since it couldn't get deep enough. i have since had my toenails laser'd and it looks like it's done the trick.

Tea Tree Oil is nature's anti fungal. For unbiased reports on something such as Tea Tree Oil do a google search such as "Tea Tree Oil Ringworm Clinical Study". The "clinical study" part will weed out companies that can say whatever they want on their site. As the owner of Defense Soap I am fully aware of how easy it can be to toss inflated or half of studies up on a site. This is why we always use clinical studies for our references.

When using Tea Tree Oil to treat ringworm you should always mix it with a carrier oil to pull it down into the skin otherwise the TTO will remain on the skin's surface and not penetrate to the fullest depth of the infection.

At Defense we use a blend of Tea Tree Oil, Eucalyptus Oil, and JoJoba. This blend has been know to minimize the results of even Herpes. The TTO and the EUO are the active ingredients where the JoJoba is the carrier oil. Do a google search on "Tea Tree Oil Eucalyptus Oil Herpes Clinical Study".

Concentration levels is another area we need to be aware of. Some companies will add .1% TTO just to make a claim. At Defense we use a full 2% TTO EUO which is 20 times stronger then some of our competition.

And finally there are 4 different grades of TTO. We only use pharmaceutical grade oils.

Hey Guy... I just purchased some bar soap and foam. Question about the foam. Is that best to use BEFORE grappling as a barrier? Or can you also use it after grappling before you can get home and shower?

Buhriyon,

We would be happy to shoot you a sample as well if you would like. Dr Bronners can be found at GNC.

Yovan,

The barrier foam is only for before. Our body wipes are what you would need to use between training and home.

Thanks for being a customer. I hope you found working with us easy and quick.

I just ordered yesterday, so I'll give everything a shot next week probably. Thanks for the info.

There will be a sample wipe tossed in with your order. Give that a try after you train. Make sure to hit your neck and face areas especially.
