John Boehner backs Paul Ryan for president, says if no one wins after the first ballot in Cleveland that he would rather choose none of the above and back Paul Ryan

“If we don’t have a nominee who can win on the first ballot, I’m for none of the above,” Mr. Boehner said at the Future Industry Association conference in Boca Raton, Florida, Politico reported. “They all had a chance to win. None of them won. So I’m for none of the above. I’m for Paul Ryan to be our nominee.”

Is this position that outrageous?

Are the rules set up the way they are to account for just such a scenario?

Also calls Ted Cruz " Lucifer " as an extra little nugget

well, that's the problem w/ having a voting process that can ultimately be decided by the establishment. it makes the entire process feel disenfranchised.

nobody won, but voters made their opinions heard. if they wanted paul ryan, he should've ran. so i get the anger of republicans if the party were to do something like this.

at the very least if they were to do a coupe on trump and put in cruz, cruz won states and went through the process.

the only real safe choice republicans have is to just back trump, regardless if he meets the delegates or not. they might get embarrassed in the general election, but at least they have something to build off of.

Can Trump still run as an independent if he doesn't get the nod?

Ive said this before I think

Im not a republican but how much the party seems to want to go against the people is worrisome to me.

The republican party has riled people up with outrageous statements on fox and the radio and it would seem that those chickens are coming home to roost.

The republican party needs to pray and hope that Hillary beats them so that they can go crawl into a deep dark hole and get their shit together so that this doesnt happen to them again.

I wouldnt hold my breath on that though

But why have the convention then , he or she with the most delagates wins .

I have a feeling the house is about to come down.

This is why Trump has to win.
The odds of him winning on the first ballot are slim , my understanding is he really needed Ohio to have a realistic shot at winning first ballot.

I very much agree with Boehner, basically for all of the candidates over 60+% of the country didn't like them enough to vote for them. Their highest right now is Trump and he's only averaged 37% of primary votes. Choose someone else.
