I was reading an interview with Mark Hamill about how The Last Jedi sucked and in it he basically said the old ones were good and the new ones sucked, but conceded "you have to make way for the new generation".

That got me thinking. Sometimes you hear kids with no idea about life and politics and etc and they say "you old people are going to die and then MY GENERATION will take over".

So the point I want to make is. 1) You don't have to turn over anything for the younger generations. They have to get it the same way you did....by taking it from those who had it.
No one with anything worth having just gave it up other than by retirement or death.

Look at the top male box office stars: Marky Mark and Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise. and Keanu Reeves. These guys were top billing in their 20s and pushing 50 still have not given it up.

If you are going to wait until these guy give it up to get it then you are going to be far too old then.

Also, if you are an idealist young person and you think you will get political power when my generation just dies...well...why wouldn't the GENERATION YOUNGER THAN YOU just take it???

It is obvious if you are going to wait for the older gen take die instead of taking it that the ones younger than you will be hungry and will take it from your weak and brittle hands.

The new generation couldn't care less about Star Wars

Its the 30 year old man childs that are going to see this shit 20 times

Its the fucking dork losers who don't know how to grow up

Exactly. They are the ones who are never going to have the spotlight or the power. The younger generation might have the will to be better than the man childs (30s-20s)now...but that ain't saying much.

I don't think Hollywood will ever have this problem, but what I think he means is that you want to build/promote a new generation so that when the old gen is no longer around, you don't have a dry spell where there's no stars.

I do agree though. When more people earn their place in this world, instead of having it handed to them, it creates a more respectful culture.

I hate the tone of modern day articles:

always sassy and trashy:

"move over white men, you NEED to check your privilege.

Exactly, you want me to check my privilege you are going to have to beat this shit out of me and make me.

Well, how about this. In regards to Star Wars instead of "making room for the next generation" how about they MAKE SOMETHING NEW?

Empire Strikes Back was not diverse enough? Well, make up your own fucking movie franchise.

If theres a problem here then I'd say its quite the reverse in recent decades, political and economic power has tended to stay with the older generations as social mobility has declined and welfare drawbridges have been pulled up from Reagan onwards.

Pushing 60, bro. None of these new cuck bitches have what it takes to grab the reins from these old school stars.

A big issue I would say is that modern blockbusters tend to be less purely star power and more linked to a role, people don't just pay to see an actor/actress but pay to see them playing a certain role.

Cruise has been pretty unique in being able to draw large scale interest across a large number of roles.

I agree, sometimes you just need to let things die. Sometimes the next generation has no business carrying on things from the past.

And from what statistics are you basing this off exactly? On the new Star Wars?

Your examples are just bad. I don't get your point with the actors either. There are bunch of young successful actors today, just like the older ones were back in the day. When Brad Pitt, Keenu Reeves etc.. were in their 20s, they didn't just steal the spotlight from the generation of actors before them. They simply co-existed just like today.

Are you talking about all the assholes in their 20’s who won’t/can’t move out of their fucking parent’s houses and who have no idea how to take care of themselves?

That generation? Just looking for clarification

Older folks not "making way" is why this country is going down the tubes. Fucking baby boomers are running this country into the ground.

What I don't understand about this is... what does it accomplish? What does being "woke" accomplish? You can say you are anything, but it doesn't mean you've done a thing. This is one of the least racist countries in the world, some people who think that people should "check your privilege" are some of the most divisive people on earth and love nothing more than people being separated.

Who or did you just pull this out of your ass?

Calling BS on this. Hollywood is all about the cheddar and start power and has always been so, I should know I have always been here

Yeah, this generation has been very much about remakes and reboots and sequels. Not so much on the original stories.

If theres a problem here then I'd say its quite the reverse in recent decades, political and economic power has tended to stay with the older generations as social mobility has declined and welfare drawbridges have been pulled up from Reagan onwards.

Old people have always had more money due to experience and savings. Now you have people in their 30s in school debt from having a gender studies major worth nothing and feel no shame collecting an allowance.

I think for the first time in a long time the job openings are more numerous than job seekers. Plenty of mobility.

Older folks not "making way" is why this country is going down the tubes. Fucking baby boomers are running this country into the ground.

And by run into the ground you mean lowest unemployment since before 9/11???? You mean the way we are living in the most privileged country ever????

LOL, spare me.

My guess is that TS is in his 50s and spends his time reminiscing about the "good ole days", complaining about the younger generation but hasn't accomplished anything more than them.

Usually people who like reminiscing a lot and criticizing the younger generation are the ones who have accomplished the less from all the guys from their own generation.

They just like complaining and embellishing the memories of their younger selves so they can feel better about their shitty lives. Most successful people regardless of their age don't spend time thinking about that stuff.

Psychological projection is a theory in psychology in which humans defend themselves against their own unconscious impulses or qualities (both positive and negative) by denying their existence in themselves while attributing them to others.[1] For example, a person who is habitually intolerant may constantly accuse other people of being intolerant. It incorporates blame shifting.

I am not reminiscing at all. I am stating 1) You don't have to give up anything to anyone they have to take it 2) There is on guarantee if you wait for the older generation to die to get yours that it will not be grabbed by the even younger generation.

To me you just sound like one of those cowards who talk shit on the internet because you are too scared to in real life because you would get the shit stomped out of you.

PS Where are all these actors you are talking about???

So much generalizing based on your own experiences.

You sound like some 50 years old, single loser who constantly complains about everything.

PS: Every generation has shit on the generation after them. Get over it. No one will remember you or your generation 100 years from now.

I've been saying for a long time that the younger generations have to take over but they just don't seem to care. Many organizations that have always been run by volunteers now have mainly people 50 and over. Elected officials are a similar situation. Whether it's a city council or or a presidential election. We have an old president and the alternatives were almost as old. Most of the candidates are retirement age. I was happy to see a 28 year old win the primary for Congress in New York. Presidents like Kennedy, Clinton and Obama might have gotten elected because they were younger.
