Media Ngannou tried to purposely knockout UFC contender in sparring.

No, your posts are literally “I like going hard”. “My trainer in the 80s said going hard is the way”. “Only going hard prepares you”

You're not even smart enough to quote me, you just speak randomly into the void.

Try to use the quote feature, dumbass.

Fortunately, our dialogue may continue, 1) because you're an idiot, and 2) it's a subject of interest to me.

In the effort to be non-inflammatory, I think it comes down to a difference in terminology.

SPARRING (to me) means you're going out there trying to "practice real fighting" ...

With some of you call "sparring," I personally call DRILLS (practice, working on technique, whatever you want to call it).

Some people use the term "light sparring" — which is sparring without full intensity.

But where I came from, Sparring = Practice Fighting (meaning, fighting "not for money," but for an intensity level that matches what you should be doing professionally).

No one will ever agree on absolutely everything, but this is the whole reason for the term "light sparring" ... and that is because REAL sparring should be freaking intense, if you actually want to learn how to fight for real.

My last $0.02.

Nah, every gym has people like you hanging around talking how tough and how hard they were back when.

That article doesn't say much, including when they sparred, it's just speculation

Why was Ankaelev sparring with Francis? Surely there are better options for him to prepare against Poatan?

I'm also a little dubious about the likelihood of a lhw engaging in "heavy sparring" with a hw knockout artist, that doesn't make sense

Lion's Den were infamous for their heavy sparring and brutal training methods back in the day, all those guys are now shells of themselves

Ankalaev having to dodge windmill Ngannou KO shots when he was only planning on some light sparring:

That was most likely Jiri when he sparred Ngannou in same gym. Same gym where Ankalaev's teammate ruined Jiri's arm... :D

That's for learning. Ank and Ngannou are professional fighters.

You should check how Thais go about this. Most badass fighters in the world, no panic spazz or freeze when they get hit either and they don't sparr hard.

I don't have enough experience with Thai training methods to confirm or rebut.

I think a lot of people do "drills" (and call it sparring), but they're just drills.

The entire phrase, LIGHT SPARRING, literally means that regular sparring = HEAVY, by definition.

Got you!

Should get a sherdogger in there with Francis, show him what a real fighter looks like

Some people go nuts in sparring, try to match their intensity or tell them to lighten up before hand.
Honestly I fucking hate people who go hard without saying hey lets go hard....super fucking cheap and shitty and 99% of the time its a tell to the person being a piece of shit in life as well. I understand the need for hard sparring at times, but straight up going for a KO in a sparring session is just asshole shit.

Except he's not preparing for Poatan using Francis. I even made a post summarizing what the article said on the 2nd page.

The article states that it was when Ngannou started training wrestling

Which means this happened a long time ago. They're just digging up some old stuff for some clicks

Ngannou is the heaviest hitting person in MMA history... even if he's going medium in sparring it could seem like he's trying to knock you out especially if you're a smaller fighter.
