Jones was the first one who called him out, before Ngannou even won the title.

Only wanted to be paid accordingly for the magnitude of fight that it was. Which at the time, the UFC wasn't willing to do.

As the pandemic ended and things opened back up, we got crowds back and that began to change, obviously ending with him getting a new contract he's happy with.

Jon was never fighting anyone who wasn't the HW champ. If he signed a new big money contract, that's always what he was going to fight for no matter what.

Conversely, the UFC has been fighting with Ngannou for a year and a half about his own contract. He wanted more money and freedom.

For the last year, Ngannou had every opportunity to make the fight happen and chose not to.

It didn't because of him and only him.


That said, it doesn't mean Ngannou is scared either. I believe the fight still has a high chance of happening down the road.

I’ve been watching boxing since I was a kid and I’m 42.. He’s not getting 400,000 buys. What evidence do you have to suggest he can even come close to that? He’s not a star. Listen to GSP. He's scared before every one of his fights.

Listen to Mike Tyson. It doesn't mean anything dude. As a fighter, you need that fear, to propel you to your full potential.

A lot of fighters and boxers say they need that fear, nervous energy, butterflies to perform at their best. It keeps them in check.

That's probably a big reason why Jon has had mediocre performances in the UFC. The challenge, magnitude of fight, something to prove element is important and when you've been at the top so long, it isn't always there.

Not exactly. DC fought him twice and didn't beat him, and Jon was still in the division but suspended. That's not the same as someone who left the company saying the next guy's belt doesn't count because they never fought him. It would closer if he was talking about Jan's belt not counting for not fighting him after he'd left the division. You could maybe say it about Gane since he fought Ngannou and didn't beat him, but even that's not really the same because Ngannou isn't in the UFC anymore.

Though Jon's own title reign is tainted after the steroid busts.

First people said Jon would never fight at heavyweight. Now they're saying he's only fighting at heavyweight because it isn't Francis. The hate for Jon Jones as a fighter is baffling. People say fighters deserve to get paid and when Jon wanted to get paid it was considered pricing himself out of a fight with Francis because he was scared.
